Guild Wars 2

I have wondered for a while why anet does not make the pvp section of gw2 completely free to play. This would likely increase the number of players and may even result in game sales to people that want to play the rest of the game. Most popular pvp games are free to play.

f2p communities are the worst.
i do think they should have a demo version tho. i know several people that would be into it but dont want to hand over $40 to try the game. and if you dont like it youre out $40.

Making the pvp part of this game f2p and then charging the f2p players to access rewards via some sort of special key would bring in players and money to gw2. I fully support this idea.

I made this very sugestion some time ago. It seems to me that the game can handle pvp f2p. Free accounts will be stuck in the mist, and reward tracks will be restricted. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

Dcuo pvp community isn’t very toxic. I’m sure if I tried enough of them I could find others. Adding more players might actually lessen the toxicity due to the influx of new players the experienced ones would just have to deal with it. That being said this is a game on the Internet alot of you just have thin skin and need to toughen up buttercup.

ok so toxic can be a variety of things but its generally negative behaviors that effect more than the player exhibiting those behaviors.

some examples:
- trolls
- griefers
- victim mentalities
- pouters (i’m not getting my way)
- carry me senpai players

while yes those listed above are in this game and every other game, p2p games filter out a large number of these players.

and ya I agree with you that it would grow the pvp community and if anet made better costumes and vanity items they could rake in some cash. but, the influx of players is going to get frustrated and negative fast in this game. slow updates, cheese metas, etc.

im just curious have you been apart of a game that has gone from p2p to f2p?

Lord of the Rings online went from P2P to F2P and benefited massively. But they had frequent updates to keep things under control and the PvP so to speak was partly limited to P2P players.

Totally agree.

People tend to under appreciate those things. They always think the grass is greener on the otherside.

I’ve played all those, as far as I could tell all the games suffer from the same things those games just have a larger population so you “hear” about it more while still only experiencing it about the same amount.

Now that PvP grants PvE rewards, this idea is absolutely unrealizable.

That may work in anets favor to get people to buy the full game.

Yep. Doesn’t matter if it’s B2P or P2P, EVERY game has people like that.

They should make it like $10 or $20 to PvP and they can purchase an add-on (PvE) on the BLTC for the remaining amount.

I think they should consider it if they have not already.

No one would buy this game just for the PvP, but they would for pve.

Calling the Geedub PvP community “toxic” is laughable.

99% of the “rage” that I’ve seen is experienced players sharing barbed strat advice in team chat.

That’s basically par of course for any PvP.

The only PvP community I’d call “toxic” is ranked League of Legends. But I haven’t played in ages so it could be good now as well.

While I like the idea, I am not sure it would be healthy for the PvP community.
