Hey all,
I’ve been wondering about this quite a while, tried a bit but that just felt horrible.
I tried: skills 12345, normal 6-0 I turned into Q-T
Forward from W to S.
I really did not like that.
.
.
.
Any suggestions for me to make me use my mouse less for skills?
Current keys in use:
1-0 skills
ASWD walking
R autorun
F loot
C closest target
V (dodge, but can be replaced as I’ve got dodge on a mouse button)
Z look behind character
X 180 turn
Cntrl + Shift are PvE uses to see objectives etc.
(Mouse has 1 side-button free to be assigned)
Anyone got any advise for me, as PvP is not my main focus but I do like to learn and play it.
Try 6-0 to Shift + 1-5
i use caps q r for 7-9 and z for elite. i just use left click free camera instead of look behind.
For me 1-5 went to 1-4 and R, 6-10 went to mouse 1 and mouse 2, q, e and elite is at 5.
1,2,3,4 ok
5 -> B
movement: WAD
Heal -> E
utilities-> R, G, T
ulti -> S or 5
Dodge ->Q
Turn camera ->Shift
stomp/rezz -> F
F1 to F4 → z, x, c, v
Mark someone -> Y
target the mark -> Mouse mid button
I highly recommend utilizing keys
Q, E, R, T, F, Z
Shift+ Q, E, R, F
Easiest Shift Keys
Shift +E and Shift +R
Good Luck!
I use:
1-5 for weapon skills
R for heal
T for elite
ASD for utilities
QE for strafe
B for call target
G for select target
Arrows for move
Shift for autorun
Tab for target switch
~ for weapon swap
Honestly it’s just time and practice. I remember learning about keybinds in vanilla WoW after watching “pro pvp videos”. I pushed so hard to learn so many keybinds I remember my hands hurting. It pay’s off in the end even though it can be frustrating.
I’ll list my keybinds:
1-5 weapon skills.
` F1
LMSB (Left Mouse Side Button) – F2
RMSB – F3
T – F4
X = Heal
RFV = utilities
Z = Elite
B = About Face
MMB (Middle Mouse Button, clicking the scroll wheel) = Stow Weapon
Shift = Dodge
Left Cntrl = Swap Weapons
G = Call Target
Left Alt = Take Target
Y = Target Nearest Enemy
Tab = Target Next Enemy
C = Interact (Stomp, etc)
Space Bar = Jump
Movement = QWEASD
I think that’s all of em. Tell me if I’m missing anything.

This is what I use
Mouse side button 1- weapon skill 1
Q-weapon skill 2
E- weapon skill 3
R-weapon skill 4
T-weapon skill 5
F1-1
F2-3
F3-4
F4-5
ZXC-Utility
Heal-Mouse upper button
Dodge-Mouse side button
Weaponswap- Mouse side button
Elite-Mouse side button
F-Stomp/Rezz
ABout face-extra key on keyboard
Weapon stow-extra mouse button
I changed a lot of keybinds from the given ones that it took me about 2 weeks to fully get in touch with them, but it really helps out once you find your most comfortable setting. Also having extra mouse buttons/keyboard buttons really help.
Buy a naga or Logitech g600 and don’t worry bout keybinds.
It all depends on keyboard + hand size, so you’ll have to find what works best for you. On laptop keyboard I use:
QWES: movement (WASD hurts my wrist)
Shift: Turn around
C: Jump
` (key below Esc): Look behind
Space or back mouse button: Dodge
12345: weapon skills
Alt + 123: utilities
F123: toolbelt
D or mouse thumb: Heal
CapsLock or forward mouse button: Elite
G: Sheathe weapons
Middle mouse button: Swap weapons
Tab: Next enemy
V: Closest enemy
F5: Target
T: Take target
Alt: show enemies and objects
NUMPAD 789: guild, friends, party
NUMPAD 456: hero, inventory, pet
NUMPAD 123: pvp, wvw, info dialog
NUMPAD 0: trading post
NUMPAD DEL: mail

This is what I did. I honestly was a keyboard turner for the first year of playing this game and used my number pad for skills (it was bad trust me). Using an MMO mouse helps a great deal especiall since this game doesn’t have as many skills on the bar as other mmos.

+1
1) Rebind movement keys to E, S, D, F so that your left hand is naturally sitting where it should be with your index finger on the F key. You also get access to more keys. (I personally use A for autorun.)
2) Rebind all abilities to keys around your movement keys, prioritizing the abilities you use or need the most in PVP to the most easily accessible keys. (For e.g. Q, W, R, T, G, V, C, X, Z, A)
3) Rebind all other abilities that you don’t use often or aren’t as crucial in combat to harder to reach keys or to ctrl/alt/shift key combinations. (For e.g. 1, 2, 3 , 4, shift+W, shift+R, shift+T, etc. though I personally don’t use the number keys since that causes your hand to leave its resting place.)
4) Arrange keybinds so that similar keys are close to one another. It will help you to remember your keybinds. (For e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4 for F1-F4 abilities or G, V, C, X, Z for weapon skills 1 through 5.)
Keybinds should feel natural for you in PVP so experiment with different layouts until you find one that makes “sense” to you. Every ability that you use in combat should be within easy reach and your hand should never leave from its natural resting place. Practice until they become second nature and profit with improved reaction times and a more enjoyable pvp experience.
For the original poster, I’d recommend using dodge on mouse only (keyboard dodging does not feel as natural) and freeing up the Z and X buttons (use right-click on your mouse for camera and movement changes instead).

C+Space, target and attack nearest enemy
I got movement completely on my mouse (razer naga). 7 strafe left, 8 strafe right, 9 jump, 10 dodge, 11 back, 12 autorun, just move by double clicking the buttons.
Abilities and targetting is keyboard, 1-5 abilities, 6 heal, 7 elite, F1-F3 utilities, F4-F7 class extras. ² is switch weapon, tab is scrolling through nearest target, T for assisting, Y for setting assist.
Technically i only got a small area of 7 buttons and 3 buttons up i need to handle during combat.
I use:
1-5 – standart.
WASD – move.
G – heal skill
Q, E, R – utility
C – elite skill
` – weapon swap
f1-f4 – standart
Shift – dodge
Alt – stow weapon
V – turn back
F – action (stomp/res/etc)
It’s just something you need to be determined to do, and stick to it. I used to click my utilities, and just changing from that took time and practice. You will feel the urge to fall back into the old style when pressured or wanting to be sure you’ll succeed in what you’re trying to do, but you shouldn’t, because that’s the best learning experience. Muscle memory plays a significant part in reacting quickly when pinned down, and they won’t remember if they don’t first do. You will also find yourself checking your hand’s position on the keyboard perhaps frequently. That’s normal, just like you look at your skill bar when you’re playing a new class, and eventually you’ll just realise that you stopped doing it.
The key to good key binds is having everything within comfortable reachable distance of wherever your hand’s normal position is, and can be pressed while moving in any direction. For this reason, moving your movement keys down is not a good idea - especially if you’re keeping the default profession skill keys. Ideally, the most commonly used keys will be over 3 rows and your mouse. Also if you try other people’s key binds, remember not all keyboards have the same key sizes and spacing. For example, some have F1 reachable right above 1, while others have F1 above 2 with a gap in-between.
Here are mine:
Forward: W
Left strafe: Q
Right strafe: E
Backward: S
Jump: Space
Dodge: Mouse button right next to the scroll wheel
Auto run: G
Stow weapon: C
Swap weapon: `
Weapon 1: 1
Weapon 2: 2
Weapon 3: 3
Weapon 4: 4
Weapon 5: D
Heal: A
Utility 1: Left side mouse button
Utility 2: X
Utility 3: Right side mouse button
Elite: V
Profession skill 1: R
Interact: F
Target: T
Call target: Caps lock
Next target: Middle mouse button (scroll wheel)
About face: Tab
Look behind: LCtrl
my keybinds are wasd for movement (ad are strafing, dont keyboard turn) I use 1-5 for weapon skills, R for heal, q and e for 2 of my utilities and my 3rd utility is on my mouse because it’s usually my port or stun break so I need to click it fast. I use x for weapon swap because hitting ~ is a pain. cvbn are my F1-4 and I suggest moving map from m as it is often hit while learning the keybinds . I use caps lock for call targeting and shift for dodge

#Simple Math ……
if u play Blade & Soul [ BnS mode ] Clicking = Keying :P
[but ! u play GW2]
[now:]
if u have Ele Clicking < Keying !
if u have War, Gard, Rang, Mesm,Thief, Necro, Eng, and ur fast @click Clicking <= Keying !
if ARENANET {
For players with mouse clicking : if exist Turn On – Off Skills Tooltip Description , will see better PvP without popup all description :P }

So is backpedaling a thing in GW2 as well? As in, you should not do?
So is backpedaling a thing in GW2 as well? As in, you should not do?
As far as I’m aware it has always been suggested to remove the key for backpedaling.
As it’s slower than sidestep/180 turn
Imo GW2 is perfect for a gaming mouse because you wont have 20 binds+ like other MMORPGs. I use keys for moving and dodging. Mouse for turning and everything else.
I didn’t change any of my keys, but I have a gaming keyboard and gaming mouse with extra buttons on them. The mouse has F1-F4 and `/~ (weapon switching), and there are 5 buttons just below the space bar that use skills 6-0. I just double tap the directions to dodge.
If you don’t have the keyboard/mouse though, you’ll have to improvise. A lot of these suggestions are really quite good.
