I miss them so so so so much, will update gw and do some RA.
Has anyone any idea if anet attempts to put some other game mode besides existing ‘esport’ one in which majority of people have 0 interest.

i.e. unlikely in the near future. possible perhaps at least half a year down the road?

I still dont get why people asking for new gamemodes?

New gamemode in this enviroment, will get boring as hell within same ammount of time. Same like i do believe custom arenas will not help to PvP at this moment and in this state
Why do people believe there will be something different in new gamemode? Will it solve balance? no, will it solve bugs? no. Will it be more FUN? yes, but only for limited time again.

I will be saying this over and over. In order to improve sPvP – we need to see WHAT IS THE ROOT CAUSE of problems? Why to people dont consider it FUN?

i strongly believe the reason behind this is current implementation of tournament system + missing matchmaking.
Theese leading to situation where there are almost NO matches that are worth to speak of.. that are worth to enjoy, that are worth to spend time. Its pretty simply. PUGS and solo players matched against premades and top level teams.
Top levels teams matched against low level teams..

thats the reason people DO NOT HAVE FUN.. because the games are not fair.

Now lets imagine, we do have mathmaking system (still no ladder table, but somewhere hidden there is your team ELO rating). Then we have nothing else than 2 tournaments queue (yes, no hot-joins anymore).
1) queue for solo and incomlete groups only
2) queue for full premades

now when matchmaking is working.. top teams fighting top teams, low team matched with low teams. = everyone having challenge, everyone having fun and on top of that = THERE ARE NO QUEUE times because there is no split in community.

Then you will see conquest as totaly different game with different potencial..

and yes, it will become boring eventually, but then its the time to work on additions – like custom arenas, and new gamemodes.

At this state of game, custom or new gamemodes are only short term solution to post few happy topics on forum and in like 1 or 2 months maximum.. we will scream again..

to make it simple

why new toys, when there is noone to use them?

GvG did include rankings and gave me (and some other people I know) a reason to both join guilds and do GvG. For some these are valid reasons. GvG also opened up for various maps.

I can’t see, why we can’t have both matchmaking a variation in the maps and modes? I think it is a must really in order to keep the feeling of being fresh, but hey .. I could be wrong

GvG had a ladder, various objectives, 8v8 PvP play, a variety of viable builds, and was played in Guild Halls that were owned by your guild. These factors alone make it about 10 times more dynamic and interesting than sPvP in its current state. HA provided the same things, but also had 3 way competition on a world scale where you fought between other regions (NA/EU/Korea) for the “favor of the gods” and if you won, your guild/team name was displayed to the entire world that you won a Hall of Heroes match and because of that, your whole region had access to an Underworld dungeon where you could farm rare mats and drops off of hard-to-kill mobs until you were not favored any longer. Sounds pretty not stale to me. 5v5 is boring and cookie-cutter, point capture is unoriginal and repetitive, and there is no place for guilds in any of the current sPvP in a game called GUILD Wars. Seems quite silly. Additionally, the game type that guilds do have, WvW, needs a lot of work regarding bugs, glitches, and the overwhelming fact that there is no way to coordinate a large group without a commander icon and even then, the system is often buggy and not useful. Guilds need to be prioritized as a group that should be playing a role in these PvP modes, not just being able to farm influence and karma and experience in PvE.

Sure, i can´t know. But considering how fast people get bored here, and also in other new games. I can expect to be the same for any new content. The reason why you want to do something repetitive is not new map, but new scenario – new option, new way how to defeat your opponent.

At this point, i believe we have not seen full potencial of Conquest. I mean the games we are playing right now are just placeholders, nothing serious.. nothing you can say.. wow.. that was great. (or you say it only 1-2 times per evening).

Of course we can have also new map. But i meant it as an order… First we need to fix why people leave current game, and then when we have solid and stable bacground, you can add something new..

A game is fun if its game play is good.

Obviously they can’t fundamentally change the combat system unless they add new trait/skill trees and attributes. Just about the only option they have to improve sPvP game play is a better game mode and better rewards.

New game modes will cause build variety. In GW1, gvg builds were not the strongest for Ha, Ta, etc. Each mode had builds that worked best for that mode.

Problem now is conquest promotes bunkering, and bunkering promotes glass cannons.

Another mode say central objective or a TDM would definitely promote a new set of builds. That is what is lacking imo. 8 classes in this game, go into tourneys (free and paid), prolly will see the same 20 builds

Completely agree with Mr. I&I. I am not sure about the 20 same builds though That is the fundamental reason for wanting variety. I don’t get why we get to choose professions before each match, but that is perhaps just me.

But I do know several irl who felt the pvp in gw2 was a step down from gw1. Adding a ladder would not be enough for them. I understand the need to “move slow” in sensitive areas … but I also kinda feel the time for moving slow is a bit surpassed … I do think something has to happen on a big scale.

I know the map of GvG, played GW1 for years and always mainly for GvG. Other gamemodes were just for fun to me. But i know they also had their own strong playerbase (every person has his own preference of course).
I also agree with you that of course new modes and new maps will get some attention of players and keep them playing longer. What im still trying to say (and maybe i do it wrong) is that all this new features will be great a nice to have but first i think noone like to be stomped by premade if playing solo and noone like to get stomped but team who obviously is playing totaly different league.
ladder and matchmaking might not be the right solution maybe different system but separating pug / premades and feeling of games that are fair for both sides will for sure make the game more enjoyable.
Ideal situation for next big PVP patch in my point of view would be
- matchmaking implementation (any kind, ladder dont need to be involved)
- custom arenas
- temple of silent storm included to tournament rotation

Its also true i can´t say that i know – these are my own opinions of course and the way i see it. But since i have organized a big enough community of czech sPvP players i know also their opinions which are daily discussed on our forum. And mostly they are discussing different levels of play and how annoying is to play a game that you lost in the moment you have joined the game.

We want game modes that carry the spirit of guildwars. Because thats why we bought the game. Which, it turns out, is completely devoid of anything related to guildwars.

take GW2 combat, proffesions, skills, weapons etc… and take GW1 pvp modes, systems, elo rating. Then mix it together and .. here we go awesome product.

I think the biggest problem for anet would be that there would not be enough ppl playing the ‘old esport’ game mode. For me personally if they would implement something like gvg or ha i would play capture just kitten often as i played AB in gw1, and that was maybe twice per month.

Let me explain my situatino: All my buddies left the game, and many guilds are barely hanging in there, many have been abandoned. I think that people making bonds in an MMO is important. If you are not so fortunate to be a part of a gaming-network, then you are more or less pugging your way through the game at the moment. That is imho not ideal :’(
I used to be a part a large gaming community, but since I am an old fart, many has left it (wife, kids and jobs … the usuals). I hope to find some new ppl along the way, and I hope GW2 is the game where it will happen as GW1 was where the adventure started for me.

I hope my motives are clear … I think I am not alone in that situation

You are not allone, im in similar situation. GW1 was a start game for me as well. So shame till now nothing can be even close to GW1 PvP scene.
Im actually in same situation with friends and community. Till now i still have my guild but its also loosing members and in our community i see a hudge drop of activity.. my friendlist of 30+ players is now only 5-7 active in prime time. Thats a bad sign to me.

Lets hope, we get some fix and some good news very soon..
