Am I good?… I’m good.

For many PvPers legendary weapons can be hard to obtain. Because of this, it is much more time efficient to just pay for gems, transfer the gems to gold, and buy a legendary.
Once a legendary is obtained and equipped it changes many skill effects associated with the weapon. However, some of these animation effects change the fundamental counter play of the skill. As I am not familiar with all of the legendary weapons and their animation changes I will be offering an example of one that is known: necromancer’s and bifrost.
Bifrost is the legendary staff and when equipped it changes the animation skill for Death Shroud skill Dark Path. Normally, Dark Path looks like a regular staff auto attack (a black claw) which is in contrast to the Death Shroud auto attack Life Blast which has an animation of a green orb. This is significant because the difference in the animation signals that there is a Dark Path coming at you. This skill applies 3 stacks of bleeds, kitten chill, teleports the necro to the enemy impacted with Dark Path, and when traited corrupts 2 boons on the impacted enemy.
As you can see, Dark Path is a valuable skill to dodge, and is appropriately telegraphed with a different animation from the Death Shroud auto. However, when Bifrost is equipped it changes the animation of Dark Path to a green blob (the same as Life Blast) which is a skill that is not worth wasting a dodge on. Therefore, when a necromancer has Bifrost they are effectively lowering the amount of counterplay available since one cannot tell when they are about to be hit by a Dark Path or a Life Blast.
Since Dark Path is such a powerful skill it makes GW2 almost pay to win. This is because a necromancer with Bifrost is more likely to win a fight than a necromancer without it because their enemy will be unawares and will not dodge this “cloaked” Dark Path.
I do not believe this is appropriate and propose that the animation changes caused by legendary weapons to be reviewed and changed so they do not provide an advantage for their owners. Until the time that they are changed legendary weapons should be banned from any and all GW2 PvP.

There’s the new generic avatar setting, right? Turn it on.

Although a valid solution this setting is not allowed in every aspect of GW2 PvP. An alternative would be to allow standard character models everywhere.

Ex. Hotjoin, SoloQ, WvW.
There’s also an inverse to the problem where an enemy benefits from me using a legendary. Particularly thieves with The Dreamer because when stealthed the SB5 skill Inf. Arrow will normally shoot an invisible arrow that can no longer be seen (prior to a major patch a few months ago it could be seen).
However, if you are using The Dreamer it changes the animation of SB5 to a flying unicorn… which can be seen even if the user is stealthed.
So someone using the short bow to stealth up and quickly attempt to kitten someone with a decap is greatly hindered in that a flying unicorn is a dead giveaway and sort of contradicts the role of a deceptive thief.
Of course I could stop using the bow… but I’d rather they just fix a blatantly erroneous game design.
Pay To Win !? You could not have made a minor thing look more dramatic – good job
Over dramatic but its been an issue for awhile. I believe the longbow hides pindown for warriors as well.
legendary pistol and engies: all the kittening animations are the kittening same.
You can’t recognize a poison volley till there’re the other shots.
God forbids recognizing static shot from autoattack.

Makes it get attention though haha.
Also outfits lets everyone look the same. If five asuran wore Ceremonial armor, no one can tell which class is which.
There are so many particle effects already, legendary weapons are the least of your worries.

If that were true this thread would be about particle effect. It is not. If I am fighting a necro or a warrior regardless of how big the fight is I will dodge Dark Path or Pin Down if I have a skill available. Even if there is a lot of particle effect I should see the animation. If I can’t see the animation I have bad positioning and must be in the middle of a crazy cluster kitten. However, if the enemy has legendaries. I won’t see these animations and I will get hit by these skills. I will die. The fight will be lost. The game could be lost.

Why would someone pay to win in hotjoin or solo queue?
But.. But… I worked hard for my meteorlogicus in PvE and my Ele is enjoying it very much
NEVER GOING TO PVE EVER ANYMORE. Did the world comp, gone through hell, lol.
But I also want incinator …… Although with PvP only I’m never getting it.
take a condi removal/trait as backup
While I think this is rare enough that it’s practically a non-issue, I do think it was strange how ANet didn’t implement standard enemy models throughout all of PvP. This issue could be easily fixed by expanding the enemy models to all PvP modes.
Most of the legendarys are ok
one of the affecting legendary is pistol, they just completely changed the projectils to some partical stuff
and another one is longbow, i can hardly see the warrior longbow 5 with all the effect going on even with that huge animation on an asura.
so far thats the only two ive noticed.

There’s a bigger difference between Life Blast and Dark Path that no alteration of the projectile’s appearance will affect: Dark Path travels along the ground. If you see a projectile coming from a necro in death shroud that moves along the ground, following every dip and rise, that’s Dark Path.
The Dreamer on Ranger has this issue also. Crippling and Disabling shot have distinctive arrows, but with the Dreamer they are just like the autoattack. If I miss D-shot, the opponent has no way of knowing I don’t have it available cause all they see is just another pony going past. Only if they are hit then they know I can’t use the skill and they are safe from interrupts.
kitten flying unicorns out of no where. please hotfix patch this super important aspect of the game.
I am saving for incinator but I also would love to get some gemstore items. Problem as a PvPer; you barely make gold, so you nearly can’t get the outfit you’d like… And then you’re broken, means you got to save again since the little you had is gone… Are we ever gonna be getting a chance to make some decent gold like the masters of the pve universes?
Edit: gemprice is ridiculous high, no way we can get something from there with our income.
Pay-to-Win ? Win against what ? SPvP is not beauty contest.
Uhm…
This is PVP forum
In pvp all stats are equal you can only swap worthless skins almost noone cares about
so…noone actually cares about buying legendaries (Or about ppl doing that) with gems, golds or whatever, you should post this in pve or sheeps vs sheeps (zergs vs doors or however you wanna call it) forums..
They should totally remove legendary crap from pvp anyway, those things only add more particle kitten and weird animations noone wants there…if someone wants to go for a swag contest you can go pve and show your stuff off, in heart of the mists noone gives a kitten bout that, or about how many mobs, rocks, trees and dungeons you farmed anyway

Well, I like to have my ele being equipped with nice stuff so.. Yes, I do care

If it gives no advantage it’s worthless..it’s pvp not a fashion show xD
OP should google first what Pay to Win means.

I know :/ but nothing else to do here
@Eurantien
Worst QQ that I’ve ever seen in a while. I guess ranger mains really are bad at everything that they do.
I think the legendary problem is that for any typical player to get a legendary without paying for it is based on RNG and not skill. So even some of the best necros don’t get the fancy animation, it doesn’t become standard and thus creates a problem.
That being said if you are familiar with fighting necro you only need to fight one with bifrost once to learn what’s going on.

But having a legendary gives an inherent advantage.
