As stated above. You can still save pvp. The combat is really great, the best one I’ve ever met in mmorpgs. In my opinion it pushes WoW’s pvp to the 10km deep hole, but You’re still wasting it…

The essence of waste is in organisation – You must rethink it. The combat solely is a very good thing. Adding conquest to it can spice it up, but can’t make something better – this could be an additional mode or so…

The DEEP POTENTIAL lies in 1v1. I see it there. People don’t build glass-cannons, because they’re countered with balanced builds. Same do the bunkers – they’re useless – no damage, what’s the point to fight?

Even small arena brackets could make it up. But why don’t try having a 1v1? 1v1 esports also exist. For example Starcraft. And 1v1 isn’t a problem in finding players to play against, even with this playerbase we have now. However it is only Your decision – just giving and idea here. Obviously the 2v2/3v3 arenas would be a cool towel put on a scar.

The balance that is there now isn’t good for 5n5 conquest at all, but is doing quite well in 1v1s.

I would have to argue the balance is better now for 5v5 than it would be for 1v1. I also don’t want to listen to all the QQ threads about people getting destroyed in a 1v1 arena.

1v1 is highly class depending. As i have organized some of 1v1 fights i allready have some idea on what class is pretty good (necro / ranger) in 1v1 and what classess almost have no use expect some specific build (thief = no chance if they dont play caltrops kitteny build).

1v1 therefore can“t be competitive unless you split the community based on proffesions and make all tournaments and games mirror matches = but that would be boring to watch probably.

So in fact i see more potencial in small arenas like 3v3 or maybe high count datahmatch like 6v6.

Actually having 5v5 conquest + 3v3 deathmatch arena both with working matchmaking and ladder could be nice.

not going to WIN – same like this setup is not going to win 5v5 conquest.

agree. combat is great but as you say they are just wasting the pvp mpotential of game.

Maybe 1v1 isn’t the most balanced format in the world, but then again I wouldn’t consider 50 man zergs a “balanced” format either. 5v5 games are great, no denying that.

But I have had the most fun recently by just jumping in low pop sPvP and dueling for fun. Almost everybody has a good time, people communicate and laugh and share ideas…It’s really something to behold if you have never tried it.

I do think ANet is missing a prime opportunity to make sPvP a bit more social by not adding a /duel option, especially in the Mists. I think it would provide for some pretty nice entertainment and knowledge sharing.

dueling in the mists would help pvpers socialize and build a community and also something to do while in 1-2 hour paid ques.
atm all you can do in the mists is hit dummys and spam map chat about how much everyone hates pvp/tournys/aanet/conquest etc

this games combat is awesome and much better suited for a 3vs3 deathmatch arena imo. with 3vs3 the ques would actually pop in non american prime times aswell. conquest is just bunker+aoe zerg atm..its not much fun

+1 for dueling in the mists.

I get asked all day about my builds and general necro advice. Dueling in the mists and giving me a setting option to allow players to inspect my runes/sigils and traits would make my life so much easier. I would really love to see these features implemented.

I agree that the most fun elements of GW2 combat are in small-scale fights. The roles aren’t nearly as clear-cut as a traditional healer/tank/dps trinity, which is great for small fights but it makes big fights just feel like a zerg.

There are no priority targets that your dps has to coordinate and take out first. There’s no backline you have to protect. Everyone has access to crowd control abilities so glass cannons don’t have to coordinate with their tanks to lock down and destroy a target.

On the other hand, GW2 has active dodging, combo fields/finishers, stuns/stun breakers, and interesting build variety since everyone can do everything. This is why GW2’s combat is so much fun in those 2v2’s or 3v3’s you find yourself in.
