Saturday, September 21st.
Time: TBD

Guild Wars 2 PvP TV will be holding a round table discussion with different players from the PvP community.

I am here to ask you guys (the community) what/who you would like on the show.

We will be talking about:
PaX
Meta
Balance
Future of PvP
Teams
Player population
and much more.

All uncensored..no scripts.
This will NOT be state of the game, this will be all player opinions.

Do you like the idea?
What do you want on it?
What questions do you want answered?
Who do you want on it?

Please reply here with some ideas and we may just incorporate them.

Regards,
Scar

Might be worth holding a Scrim match between team’s, hold the match then go back to talking about the balance and meta? Just idea, good way to show and explain problem’s.

Would attract more viewer’s as well.

I do like this idea. One thing I know I would like to see is more blunt questions, compared to State of the Game. And I mean getting directly to the point.

Questions I would want to see answered; for e.g what do some of these players think of the way Guild Wars 2 is right now balance aside, just the way the PvP is, in GW2.

I wouldn’t care too much about who is actually on, as long as they are very knowledgeable about GW2, and/or how the classes work.

Overall, I think this is a fantastic, idea. I think things like these are something GW2 is lacking, getting the community together and involved.

I would be willing to voice my opinion on this show.

Thank you for hosting it; I don’t think that ANet realizes the state of their own game. I just watched Countless’ vid about PAX, and I fully agree with him about everything (something rare for me with other players in this game).

I’m so ridiculously upset with the current State of the Game right now, and I’m going to have to agree with Kinjax that what this game needs desperately right now is something like this, a community get-together for us to voice out ideas and opinions.

Helseth, Supcutie, Countless and Xeph.
Denshee and Phantaram.

Zombi and Symbolic.
Battosai and Niah.
Azhene and Lord Nag.
Teldo and Teldo.
Rippii and Fredz I guess?
There’s not a lot of long-time competetive warriors around, that’s what I think atleast.

I tried to divide the names into some kind of pre-patch profession pool.

I bet that every single one of theese players are worth listening to, they have a deep understanding about sPvP tactics and competetive play, the classes and builds with all of their pros’ and cons’. Getting two or three of theese wouldnt be too hard right?

Just make sure to get Helseth in there. Entertaining.

It’d only be useful if anet actually watched it. Maybe try putting the word out by pming one of the devs about it since they clearly don’t read this forum.

I think something very, very important to discuss is the gradual, constant addition of more and more “cheese” to the game. How they just don’t find any problems with adding these effortless yet extremely effective builds and skills that perform amazing utility AND great damage, the power creep has never been more apparent than now. Even warrior isn’t “balanced” in my opinion any more.

Great idea.

Obviously, Helseth should be in there. I would also like to see if you could get 1 or 2 of the players that left (zoose, xeph, etc) to get their opinions.

I think since it won’t be Anet sanctioned, I am not afraid of there being weak questions and answers, so I’m actually excited about it.

Can’t wait. I’ll be marking my calendar.

Tbh they should take at least one since the “nobodies” are definitely needed to sustain population, which is key to spvp health.

This will only be interesting if the discussions are few, but broad, and reach consensus. If that doesn’t occur, then this will just be another meaningless talk show.

It needs to have a monitor willing to keep the players on point, and the discussions focused. Ideally, if say “rangers are OP” came up as a topic for discussion under balance, that the players reach a conclusion on what is needed to make rangers VIABLE but not OP. If it’s just 10 players sitting in a room arguing back-and-forth, and then eventually moving on, it’ll be no different than the regular commentary we get from each individual streamer during regular streaming hours.

The benefits to this philosophy is that with everyone on the same page as to what is precisely requested from the highest level pvp community requires (it varies quite a bit at this point), Anet will have very actionable feedback to work with, and I think that is the ultimate ideal for this kind of format.

EDIT: Thanks for everything you guys have been doing for GW2 pvp so far. I personally really appreciate, and I do not think I’m alone in that.

They’ll watch it. They respond on the PVPTV stream all the time – John Peters was talking to Helseth during his shift and you see Karl McLain on all the time.

I think this will be a lot more meaty than State of the Game b/c the Devs’ hands are tied in answers. Corporations have Non-Disclosure Agreements which is why Sharp has always been saying, “I’m sorry guys I can’t go into more detail.” Upcoming content is off-limits to talk about in more cases than not, and the fact that he hints at some things shows how much he wants to.

When the people who play the game at the most competitive level talk about the game you are actually witnessing the most informed minds in the game on the combat system and how it works in competitive settings. Their opinions actually matter MORE than the developers because the devs made the game – they don’t compete against other people with it, practice, and learn about what everything does vs. others. They don’t scrimmage and experiment with 2v2 and 1v1s against very, very good players.

Their feedback is a lot more important than every one of those questions we saw at PAX combined if you want PvP to be worth a kitten . Good Quality Assurance teams will get their feedback anyway – getting them all together to talk about the game, if any of them even care anymore, is a huge step forward.

+1 to Guildwars2PvPTV channel you guys are really the only hope left for getting Anet to make PvP anything worthwhile

sounds same as state of the game – sry but noone need a copy rly

everyone know the problems and the streamers talk about when they stream – what they should talk about?

idea to make a show is ok i guess but dont copy sotg (sotg without devs noone care)

but maby you can make a show with 3-4 ppl talking about simple things for new players like:

-rotation
- specialisations like bunker, debunkering, roamer etc – why , whe, whatever

or make comunity-matches (paradigm did this months ago and was coolest thing i did when i was new^^)
invite 5-6 “star” players on a custom map and make 8v8 with viewers
trust me – thats cool for the viewers to fight the “heros”^^

- there was xeph, azshene, teldo, jumper and others and man was it cool to fight with and vs them

we dont need another sotg

thx

Toss the idea out to Anet about having a silent dev presence during the discussion. This would basically be a representative from Anet who would take notes and not actually participate in the discussion, mainly as a show of good faith to the community.

Of course, if the rep wanted clarification on the multitude of ideas being discussed, they could ask, but at no point should any questions be directed at the rep. That would be a show of good faith from us.

Designate a mediator, designate a note taker, neither of these positions should partake in discussion. I reccomend raising a hand when you wish to speak. It might seem juvenile, but it allows the mediator to dictate who speaks next, prevents people from stepping on each other (which happens all too frequently with real-time internet based discussions), and keeps the flow of conversation steady, which is just easy for all parties involved, speaker and audience.

PM me if you would like me to join in the discussion, I would be happy too.

Let me say this,

THIS WILL NOT BE A COPY OF STATE OF THE GAME, that is the devs way to communicate with the community.

State of the Mist will be the streams/top tier players way of expressing how we (the community) feels. It will not be a rant nor will it be a bash of arena net and the game.

The current cast for this is as follows:

Moderator/Host – Scar
Eu Representative – Helseth
Na Representative – Fuzion

We will be adding 2 more speakers from each region, for out side points of view.

Keep the ideas rolling as well as the support.

If you are going to have the 1% discuss the game, you should at least open up a chat room for the community to participate in. This community is a lot more than Xeph (coolest guy NA/EU) Phantaram, Caed, Grouch, and all the other names we’ve heard from again and again.

I’m not sure what someone like Helseth could add to a discussion, seeing as how everyone already watches his streams and knows what is opinions are. Not to knock him, his points are extremely valid and I implore the dev team to listen closely to what he has to say, but it won’t be anything we haven’t heard from him before.

I just don’t want this potentially good discussion to turn into another “stream of the stars of GW2: come listen to them discuss things edition.”

I would just caution you guys to not be overwhelmingly negative. Find and point out good things along with the bad because there are just as many good things, and it reflects poorly on everyone from the players to the developers to the publisher if the entire show is negative.

Negative opinions expressed so publicly can also be toxic because everyone here will parrot what you guys say there. It also potentially puts people off who don’t often participate in GW2’s PvP.

I know, there are a lot of things that can be better, just don’t get too negative.

Excellent point. The current incarnation of PvP is overwhelmingly negative. But we are a creative bunch, as the forums prove. We know, in general, what we don’t like, what can be fixed, what SHOULD be fixed, and more importantly, how to fix it. When it comes to what we want done with the game, I guarantee it is coming from a place of love for the game, and the massive amounts of potential it has.

The only true hurdle we have as a community is Anet. All the good ideas in the world might fall on deaf ears, but then there’s that little thing called hope.

The end result of the discussion could (or should) be a tangible list of the things that, as a community, we can present to Anet in hopes of making this game go from decent to great. Things like:

-Short-Term and Long-Term wants
-Feasible ideas and solutions for both the short and long terms.
-Ways to bring in new players

Stuff like that.

I think this is a great idea.

All the most prolific players have voiced their concerns many times, but on separate occasions. It would be a much more concise effort to put much of it together in one place (in this case, one recorded stream). If any developer truly cares about what the top tier players think about the game, they have a very easy to find source.

I’d only advise keeping it concise and try to not repeat the same things over and over again (it’s easy to do). At the same time though, make it as long as it needs to be. Do not cap it to a certain amount if time. Talk about every single class if you have to.

A pre-planned, pre-decided topic structure with some leeway set aside for topical drift, might be a good way to set things up.

Me and mine will definitely be tuning in for this. Please make it worth-while.

A players enraged show, nice. It should blow some steam atleast.

I’m gonna detail what will happen since you could skip half the process and move on with ur live.
The show will be an amazing rage with even some good points. It will be ignored by Arena.net, since fixing the game means remaking it. At most they will say, it ain’t that bad .
U will do the show for 2 or 3 more months. Then stop worrying about gw2 and move one with ur live, like a lot of players already did, Steam has a gazillion of games, there is no reason to play something that u hate.

They just have to be constructive. If you say negative things in a constructive way, all is good. The point of this, is avoiding the censorship. If they’re not constructive, then that shows unadulted behavoir and then that’s sad on their part.

Though being constructive and coming over as constructive are different things and finding the right balance isn’t always that easy. Best example is Helseth, he’s a constructive guy, but sometimes it doesn’t come over as constructive (If you don’t know him atleast).

Is there any plan to be able to personally prioritize what combo fields our combo finishers land on?

For myself, as a thief, I’d love to be able to know that if I fire a cluster bomb at a light field and a water field on top of each other that I’d wind up with area healing.

In the same vein, I’d also like the option to prioritize which conditions are removed from me both with passive and active condition removal. It’s very annoying when I have a nondamage condition and a damage condition and the nondamage condition is removed first.

Another feature I would -love- to see is on the leaderboards: beside every account show their last played class (and possibly build if templates are ever added). This would be a cool feature for new players and also provide public information on what class representation is like at the top level of tournament play.

Hey everyone.
Just a quick question here… why are (almost) all of the players you want to have in the show still active professionals? Toad mentioned that there will be three representatives from every region (EU and NA) so why not one active professional, one inactive professional (somebody that quit a while ago but still watches the game’s progress and would want to come back) and one active casual player? Wouldn’t that encourage much more interesting dicussions?
Have fun,

Addi
