The GWLeague is one of the lucky few to have received a beta Custom Arena and we’ve been tinkering with the settings since inception!

We believe that the respawn type and time settings will have the greatest affect on matches, be it league or tournament play.

To keep a consistent penalty for death, our thoughts are as follows:

  • Respawn Type: Individual
  • Respawn Time: 20 seconds

20 seconds is a LONG time to sit and wait.

I believe that “wave” was the default for hotjoins? In that case, sometimes you would get nearly instant respawn and sometimes a ridiculously long respawn timer.

If you are doing individual respawn, anything faster than 10 turns the game in to a zerg fest, and anything above 15 makes one twiddle one’s thumbs while important things go on.

It really depends what sort of game you want.

If you want a competitive game that punishes a team for it’s mistakes, what you have is pretty good.

If you want a game for casuals and hotjoin heroes, then just make it 5 seconds,

I know this is not an option provided for us yet, but it could be cool to have respawn time scale from 5 sec (at start of match) to much longer (maybe 30ish) by the end of a long match. That way mistakes would be more heavily punished later in the match.
