So, we’ve played about 15 paid tournaments since the update and I’ve never seen this “1 out of 4” chance to win additional gems.
Seems legit, anet.

Gonna second this.
A few placements (from second till fourth) last evening, but still not a single win in my team. Statistically at least one or a few in my team should have won something some time. Even with this little of testing I’m gonna call this mechanism broken.

Not heard of anyone else winning anything either, and I should have considering the “1 out of 4 chance” talk. But to be honest, I can’t bother to care much. If they aren’t working on vital parts of PvP why would they work on the less vital ones?
They even goes “Guys, we need more juice for our PvE events, let’s just take it from the PvP servers..Who cares that they can’t play over the weekend?”

Yeah, I kind of disagree with the 4 ticket reward for third-fourth placement being removed. Before it was all like “get to round 2 and you have just lost 1 ticket, and get to round 3 and you have gained a few tickets by the gem rewards”.

But I guess they want to milk PvP as much as they can before they kill it.
If I am wrong ArenaNet, then please let me know. And not by just giving me a infraction warning..
After your last kitten screw up with the PvE event ruining PvP over the weekend you kinda does owe us some kind of a excuse and proof that you actually care about your PvP community.

P.S. Want to go out with saying that I do think that most of the fixes you implemented in last patch was nice, and some of the changes was as well. But to be honest, I expected so incredibly much more. How do you plan to bring out all the e-sports elements to the game before the end of the year? Or will that just be another promise broken? D.S.

whole concept of tournaments as main form is bad, it can never work… if you implement some rating to them, they will take long time to begin, if you dont, they will never be balanced, its a dead end imo :/ they need a bigger change in concept

Could not disagree more. And to clarify, I don’t consider the element of the enemy player to be “chance”. There is not “chance” that decides if your attack lands, or if you get struck by a attack, or if the heal lands, or if you get points from that stomp or if you spawn now or not etc etc.
The biggest “chance” thing in MMO’s would be (that I can think of now) the drop from mobs, and since I only do PvP (not that WvWvW thing neither) I am not concerned by that

Chance = critical chance, makes a big difference from a 1k hit to a 3k hit

Still, not even this can be considered as a pure “chance and risk kind of state” since you as the players decide how much crit/defense you want. Granted it is the act of randomness that decide if a player will crit or not, but you can negate it and you can boost/reduce the randomness. But granted it is in it’s core a diceroll (aka chance).

And typically. If a player goes for high crit, to rely on that “chance” then he will have sacrificed pure damage or survivability, balancing it all out. So learn how to spot what specc/build they have and then play out from it, pretty much negating his chance-taking fully. And see there how my decision making, and the enemies, decided the outcome more than the actual chance for crits?
