Im wondering if Anet should do this?

I recently was looking for a server to play on since i didnt want to wait in que for a match.

I ended up joining a PvP daily room where i got flamed for killing 2 people who were on the winning team.

This was my first time in a room like this and i thought this really defeated the purpose of PvP rewards and dailies.

I personally would be for this. Just like the PvP seasons, i want people who PvP to get the PvP rewards. A big reason why the people i played with left GW2 was the big patch some time ago where Anet made leveling easier for casuals. Not only did Anet made getting to level 80 in PvP easy now, it seems alot of people just go to daily PvP rooms and collect rewards.

I personally think HOT JOIN servers should turn into 1 vs 1 rooms where people can practice but dont get rewards to tracks or dailys from these rooms.

I dont know, it just be nice if Anet actually gave PvP back to the PvP community.

Sure, because deleting game modes is definitely makes people happy. Like, it greatly increased PvP population when they gutted previous iteration of hotjoin (which was most popular PvP mode) and deleted soloQ (which was second popular), right?

Sure, because deleting game modes is definitely makes people happy. Like, it greatly increased PvP population when they gutted previous iteration of hotjoin (which was most popular PvP mode) and deleted soloQ (which was second popular), right?

I love 8 vs 8 hot joins, i can say you got me there.

But solo que was dead. At the end there no one was solo queing. I remember having 1-2 hr long ques in solo and then when i yolo qued i got a match in 2 minutes.

People cry for solo que because we used to have it and we dont have it now and they need a excuse for not winning but no one was playing it.

Then fix MM so that bad thiefs isn’t paired with me. Also do not allow class stacking and make away with the stupid class winner achievement. I agree with OP.

I agree with OP that Hot Join is abused and needs to be changed.

But to your comment specifically, this is another problem in that dailies and the achievements gating the legendary wings are class specific, which encourages the problem you described. This could just as easily be fixed by making these achievements and dailies not class specific, and increasing the requirements to compensate. So for dailies instead of

“Win a game with Thief, engineer or Ranger.”

It could be

“Win 2 games”

Yeah – let’s take me as example, i am a good messmer (average, not the best but i know how to play it) but i suck compleatly at some other classes (guess why i took thief as example)

Now should each class become a own MM? Or each Character? Would that prohibit class switching at the start of a game? I guess this would create more problems as it could solve…

I used to love hotjoin. You’d join any running game, play any class or build even if you sucked at it, and play games after games without having to wait. If you met players you didn’t like, you’d just change servers. It was simple, fun and casual, exactly what I was looking for.

Then they butchered the game mode. They removed 8v8, because they thought PvP had to be serious conquest. They remove the “Play now” button, so that people would play unranked and ranked, thus lessening dramatically the population of hotjoin. They added dailies and made them active in hotjoin, resulting in many players cheating the mode even more.

That is really a shame. The best PvP games I’ve had have been on hotjoin, between 11pm and 3am, with people who were just having fun fragging others with no hard feeling. I’m a casual PvPer with 5k games under my belt, just wanted to chill, is all. Why did they have to kill my game mode and force me into the hell of ranked games?

I’ve tried season 4. That was my first season, it was a disaster and an incredibly frustrating experience. Had to wait way too much time between games, to play with people who were… nah, don’t get me started on this. I stopped playing at diamond with a >55 winrate, because it was unbearable.

So remove hotjoin… I think it’s a bad idea (no offense). I’d rather they make it great again (it’s in the air du temps), let casual players like myself enjoy it, while dedicated players can stay in their ranked games. And if the population is too low in these, don’t try to forcibly acquire more players by butchering other game modes, just fix the failing game mode until it becomes attractive…

Sorry for the rant.

Only thing I can buy is eliminating dailys from it. Is is a great mode for practicing as a team as well as 1v1. You can set up the server so you can tweak your build on the fly, and observe others. Great tools to have for coaching 1v1 or group combat.

I agree with many of the things you are all saying.

Do those that do not agree, i would like to say that many people have already fixed the problems you have proposed.

Daily profession wins will be replaced with win 2-3 games. It forces people to actually play the game, i know its a crazy thought.

Also this will fix stacking, just a few days ago i had a match where everyone played thief or Dh including myself for a daily. Please tell me how this is good?

Anet just announced they are giving AP points for old maps and continuing the old maps.

PvP hasnt been for the PvP players in a long time. With the legendary back back grind, with PvP daily rooms, with Anet removing 8 vs 8. (which i agree, some of the most fun games i had was running some crazy build for fun in a room full of chaos)

Id like to point out that sky hammer ruined HOT JOIN for me when it came out. Then the level fix to bring PvE into PvP and more casual.

I just like to point out that everything Anet does is for the casual PvE player. HOT JOIN and PvP DAILY ROOMS are for PvE casuals.

WvW players had crafting stations removed because it ruined a numbers aspect. I say PvP should do some changes to make it better as well. We havent seen a good PvP update for awhile.

The guys in there mostly don’t even PvP anyway, they just want a fast daily done and go back to PvE or whatever else they’re doing irl.

The only thing that will happen from banning daily/hotjoin rooms is that more people get frustrated and quit the game.

The new titles from PvP (Legend, Sea Dog, Eternal Gladiator) can’t be farmed in daily/hotjoin rooms already so you already have those exclusive things, just leave the hotjoin rooms to the non PvP players, their game play (or lack thereof) hardly affects you personally.

Also the rewards from hotjoin are CAPPED per day, you cannot farm hotjoin for 24 hours and progress faster than rated matches due to this.

TL;DR: killing hotjoin rooms won’t suddenly increase your real PvP population but rather just frustrate players who don’t care much for PvP in the first place.

If they dont care for PvP why are they in there? If Anet whats to give incentives to people for PvPing. Make it legit with good Match Making, good build diversity and a real system in place such as leader boards and que areas. They are hurting the other areas of the game by doing this. If someone needs tokens from dungeons. Instead of doing dungeons they just use the PvP potions they got from standing in a map for 15 minutes.

If Anet wants it easy for everyone why not just give people a majority of the rewards for simply logging in?

By december 2012 there was a thief that achived the 71 rank and upload the finishers on the Wiki + Dulfy (then he quit , becuased he got ’’burned’’)

Till early 2014 we didnt know how the 80 rank finisher looked like

Ppl start forming ‘’Rank Up’’ server from may2013

There where 11 servers x 8 ppl that did ‘’Rank Farm’’
The rest of the monkeys were 54-69 MAX till 2014

Those monkeys were maoning because those 150 hotjoniers , the ’’prestige’’(AHAHAAHAHAH) of the rank that been lost and moaned at the forums , what they should get in compensesion , because some1 have calculated that you needed 3 years for playing ‘’normal rate with medium amount of playtime per day ’’ in ranked que to get to 80

Realistically you, me and most people want ANet to fix PvP so it’s actually fun with some or all of your suggestions. I’d rather they focus on that rather than removing hotjoin/daily room and giving nothing back (which is probably what ANet will do).

I also don’t see hotjoin rooms as a problem, I don’t care about the PvP potions that much and don’t even bother with the targeted PvP dailies 80% of the time. I’m not gonna play X just to get the class win for example.

There are also downsides to taking out custom arenas:

1. The people doing their dailies will flood unranked and go afk or whatever. Especially if it’s rank points. You could report them but then they’d just pseudo AFK and run around or feed on purpose to let the game go faster. I’d rather they stay where they are and leave me alone in ranked/unranked.

2. People that scrim use these rooms, if removed where will they scrim?

3. Dueling/King of the Hill rooms will be gone.

4. Despite daily rooms existing, there are still plenty of legitimate hotjoin rooms. These don’t deserve to be caught in the crossfire and nuked.

Daily is casual activity. Nobody is getting X Legend titles, or league ranks, or ESL prizes, or pvp legendary backpack from doing hotjoins. Leave pvp casual segment alone, it was already heavily damaged by useless pushing for unranked-ranked. It will not give PvP new players, it will not give you new rewards, it will just force even more people to drop PvP.

There’s a difference between structured PvP, where people want serious games, and casual PvP, where players just want to brawl and troll. Both modes offer different kinds of fun, I think one should simply pick what one likes and respect other people’s preferences.

Also, not all players are driven by ingame rewards. It’s true that ingame rewards can help set a goal for players, or help the company have players stick around (thus generating profit). But many of us don’t actually give a **** about whatever rewards, and simply enjoy the mechanic of the game.

Hotjoin used to offer a stream of uninterrupted games where you could very easily get this casual fun – fast map rotation, no loss of tempo, players coming and going as they wished… Ranked games do not. You need to queue for X minutes. You need to play Conquest seriously (no more fooling around with worthy opponents). You cannot learn new classes or experiment with gimmick builds, or you’ll get flamed. Matchmaking does not work. More often than not, a game brings more pain than joy.

But I’ll agree that hotjoin, butchered as it is now, doesn’t make much sense anymore. It was great in the past, with lots of fans playing it – and they killed it with a poor vision of the game direction (structured PvP above all, inefficient reward system, misunderstanding of what players liked…).

What now? Players have moved on, the game is getting old (and it’s poorly optimized at that), and their vision of serious PvP topped by a professional scene appeals to few players only (if I believe the twitch viewership). I believe they urgently need some fresh air in the vision.

You probably joined the Daily Rewards room where Blue Always wins. If you want you can still join the server 001 or server 000 where all the Hotjoin Heroes hang out but I wouldn’t call that PVP either since its Stack Wars.

You do need a place for people to be able to test out builds against actual people, learn what skills do, learn the basics about the maps. Hotjoin is messy and teamswapping for wins is going to be a fact of life as long as it exists. For instant play fun that occasionally results in a good 5v5, it does the job.

And really, there’s nothing stopping you from going in to the “Server 0012” ones where people are trying to do dailies, playing normal and winning.

you personally want unranked for 1v1 so people can ‘practice’ but you don’t like people practicing 5v5? (which is what spvp is all about) Personally i would avoid developing a chip on the shoulder about ‘casual’ players and create your own guild/arena to suit your own needs.

If you want to see how to cultivate a great PVP game look at games like Eve, the culture there is to support and promote casual pvp in every form because they understand that todays pve/casual player can be tomorrow great pvp player.

Im just trying to make some suggestions fishball and some others have made some points that i can agree with so i can understand.

I just want to point out to Killthehealersffs.8940 that i knew 3-4 people in there level 60’s.

I was also around level 53-54 at the time and i faced players in team que with ranks 71-73, I had a old screen print of it in my old guild page. So even if people were farming it in hot join maybe Anet should of actually fixed the issue instead of completely destroying the PvP system. After my friends ( 2 guild mates ) got there 10k wins, they really dont log into the game any more.

Also i just want people to actually earn the rewards. PvP was given its own currency with shards of glory, new reward tracks and really its all nothing since you can PvP potion your way threw it.

Truly i just want people to get there just do. You hear it in all the forums. Raiders want there own exclusive rewards, PvP wanted leagues to do that, WvW is still waiting. Think about PvP last few things such and the ranking system and the grind boards. This wasnt for PvP players, this was for farmers. Im sorry i could only play 200-300 games while the top leader board players where playing 1,500-2,000.

Anet to me needs to look into this. IMO bring back 8 vs 8 for fun server fights or fix it.

Give PvP and WvW there own rewards that you get for actually playing it, then better rewards for playing it well.

PvP was unique to the PvP players with tickets for tournaments, rabbit/deer/tiger/ etc etc to craft in the MF. Im just waiting for a piece of the pie Anet took away. Including Anet fixing build diversity among other things that they broke with HOT.
