I tried out a pvp match and the whole time there was a thief who was perma-stealthed. He just did traps and a lot of condi stuff. It seems a tiny bit broken for pvp. I couldn’t see him or stop him and it sort of ruined the match

How do you stop a perma-stealth if you are on a guard? It just sucked to have an enemy messing with me I couldn’t see at all. I don’t pvp much.

2 Options. 1) Catch the idiot in AoE (which is quite easy especially as a guard)
Or 2) You leave the point.
If they’re stealthed, they’re not doing anything for their team.
Go somewhere where you’re useful. If you can use his stupidity to run a bad build to create a 4v5 fight on the rest of the map, you’re golden.

This is because stealth is a single effect instead a stacking one.

Stealth prevents them from capturing, but they no longer need it if they can still eliminate enemies from stealth with relative safety.

This problem becomes more noticeable in WvW where they can stack even more condition damage, stealth and conditions with higher stats. So they can’t keep these traps are they are.

But if they change thief traps to always reveal them with something like giving them a bit of direct damage, thief traps become mostly useless, since it’s a profession that relies on stealth and surprise.

One possible solution would be changing revealed to be a stacking effect up to 5 or 25 stacks, and when getting max stacks, they get revealed until all stacks expire. Cloaked creatures would always get max stacks when hitting with stealth attacks or any high damage attacks from stealth.
But they’ll get less stacks when they do negligible hits or just deal conditions, so they’ll need to stack more to get revealed, but still get revealed if they stack too many. This way stealth still tactical gameplay while punishing overusing cheap spamming gimmicks.

I still think the thief is squishy against my Necro and Ranger in PvP. Do I die. Yep. But it’s a 50/50 shot for me to take em out or get them on the run. I learned how to counter the thief but WvW…yeah I am owned almost every time BUT usually there are two running as roam team. That is changing now that I have spec’d out a roaming Guard for WvW only as I have most on the run but again two…I can’t stop a train on me oO.

In every game with stealth and thief/rogue it is a challenge but at least it’s not a stun lock fest like WoW was when I played over 4 years ago.

Granted Death – Necro
Consumed Hate – Thief
Unlucky Scrub – Ranger

1> Ghost is a gimmick build that is only even theoretically useful in WvW.
2> Thief is a bag of squishy meat.

You’re talking about the trap thieves right? You have to understand this is a one trick pony, and once they blow their load, they are pretty much useless for quite some time. when you get tagged with the traps+steal, condi cleanse like a motherfuker and you’re good to go. At that point they’ll most likely leave or wait around for another 20 seconds. until they can do it again. You have plenty of condi cleanse as a guard. smite condition and do the wings and you will be fine

Ghost Thief is not viable in pvp, pointless thread. On the other hand, if we start whining from a pvp perspective, we have a higher chance that this problem will be addressed. Pathetic.

spec for traps, press 7 8 9 0, win.

i must confess that i’ve played ghost thief in unranked before, just for the lulz.
it was hilarious but yeah, mostly a gimmick that isn’t too productive for your team.

I have to say that it didn’t seem like the thief I was playing against last night had much of a cool down on anything. I got hit by 4 traps just outside the barracks doors and was dead about 10 seconds later, even with a full condi-cleanse. And he never broke stealth. Personally, I wouldn’t PvP at all if I didn’t need the PvP potions for the Guild Hall, so I am a newb. But that was particularly frustrating, and frankly toxic enough that I quit PvP, finished my daily farming and logged off for the night. About 2 hours earlier than I normally would have.

I should add, that thief seemed to take extra pleasure in specifically hunting me down in that match. To my knowledge, it was the first time I ever played a match with him.

I should add, that thief seemed to take extra pleasure in specifically hunting me down in that match. To my knowledge, it was the first time I ever played a match with him.

That’s because the build’s only purpose is to troll, and since you were susceptible to it he was getting what he wanted: to ruin someone else’s night. And in other matches he was griefing his teammates by running a troll build instead of a useful one.

This build has plagued WvW for months, and to my knowledge the devs have never once acknowledged that it is a problem, even buffing it last patch. Despite enormous community outrage.

It’s a pretty shocking disregard for their launch policy of trying to eliminate griefing.
