Hiba’s hard-to-break glass engineer guide!

I have experimented, tested and perfected this build over the past week and been more succesful than I could’ve ever imagined in paid tournaments & solo queue frees.

Playstyle & tips:

This build has been designed around long range harass/intimidation, burst key targets and punish balled up/downed ennemies with massive cleave damage from grenades and the decent support it can provide to your teammates if used correctly. When you can catch someone off position overextending on your backline try punishing them with Net Shot and follow up with burst Grenade Barrage then Jump shot, this should dish out enough pressure & make them retreat from your backline. When you get focused grab your Tool Kit and activate Gear Shield to negate incoming damage, this skill is your best bet to get away from incoming burst. Remove conditions from yourself mainly with Throw Elixir H & Elixir H, Elixir R as last resort. I prefer using Throw elixir R to secure a rez on myself, but I try saving it to secure a rez on a teammate if possible in tight situations. Tool Kit autoattacks & Pry Bar hit like a truck, do not be afraid to use those when you get trolled by projectile reflection. Sometimes you might not have the choice to hold on a node as long as you can but you are still able to do this fairly well and buy a decent amount of time if you have Gear Shield up and your self-regulating defense hasn’t triggered yet, if you don’t have any of those I suggest you not even try.

Movement:

Jump shot. Elixir H when you can afford it gambling the RNG.

Positioning:

You want to stay as far as possible from your ennemies until you and your team get enough pressure on them to get closer safely.

(from my experiments so far)Works best with:

D/D elementalist frontliner
Wells/terror necromancer

Note that your necro can drop a well for any desired utility, as you have enough cleave damage to compensate for it.

You can drop Supply Crate for Mortar on Kyhlo to break treb efficiently, note that grenades can also reach treb from the Mortar spot. If you cannot find the spots to reach trebuchet you can send me a tell in game and I will gladly show you.

You can also tweak stuff around alot with this build to fit your preferences best, but this setup is my personal favorite.

Before you go around showing off this build to everyone why don’t you let these good people know who taught you engi and this build.

Natural Zoo Keeper taught me how to play engineer. That’s totally right.

Hiba is stubborn though and doesn’t use slick shoes.

—When you in range-pressure mode, are you rifle autoattacking or chucking nades?
—How do you feel about 1v1s using this build?
—Do you feel the raw damage+vuln stacking makes up for lack of fury and might, or is your playstyle more half-glass?

Depends on the situation. Nades for cleaving if they are close to each other.

The 1v1s are decent vs about anything, not having much trouble with anything on honorable 1 on 1’s.

The raw damage and vuln stacking do compensate as I can instagib any squishies. Obviously there are ways to negate my damage, I am not saying it is the ultimate instagib(lol). Also, I play with a d/d ele that can give me fury on aura share which is great. Using utility goggles instead of Tool Kit isn’t a bad choice either, I just prefer Tool Kit for the block when I get focused alot.

The playstyle isn’t half glass, just hard-to-break glass.

I also forgot to mention it is possible to 1v1 a full on bunker guardian or at least neutralize a node with Overcharged Shot & Net shot if you can manage to land those consistently, I only recommend doing this in the worst case scenarios though.

Been playing with this build for a few weeks now working out the kinks with Hiba and it’s pretty solid. It has high sustain damage just from the rifle abilities but has the ability to instagib out of nowhere. The cleave on downed players is great, and overall the build is balanced. Give it a whirl before knocking it.

I’m happy for you engi’s, I really am. This was like a miracle waiting to happen, finally somebody with a brain has crafted a functioning build for dps engis

ive been playing a similar build recently but 1 change i use is the kit refinement trait so you get an effect when you activate a kit gives you an epic combo vs minions/mesmers or immobile targets, mesmer tried to shatter combo me earlier and just got some nice instant 12k dmg to him and his clones. im talking netshot-switch to grenade kit (creates a barrage on ur position,then grenade barrage) u need to literally be standing ontop of them for the auto barrage to hit well but seriously its epically funny :P . it also can take out a heavy golem in under 1 sec also i go for the 15% chance to apply bleed on explosions, it seems to proc in groups e.g u get 3 stacks or 6(forbarrage) or none. the only thing i have noticed is i suffer badly if its lagging
