Been doing 2v2 in a room all day, matches are really interesting and entertaining to watch and play. This needs to be added to a pvp competitive/ranked mode ASAP.

The 2v2 rooms are fun but eventually they have turned into everyone running the same mesmer build, or getting stomped by 2 mesmers running the same build.

not really, you could say this about many profs… 2 DD eles using port+stun and then nuke… 2 thiefs with steal+backstab combo… 2 warriors with frenzy+bulls charge+100b (yes with 2 stuns you could maintain at least 1 full 100b and a part of second)… etc but why not all 2v2 teams wouldnt be full glass nukers? they would be dead if someone survive their burst (e.g. in guardians shield, AOE knockback from second player, etc)

i wasnt in any 2v2 room just a logical deduction from the team fights in SPvP and 2v2 mode in WoW

I find that 3vs3 is much more interesting and balanced when it comes to team compositions. Not to mention that this whole “arena” thing is much more interesting to watch than running across the map for node capture.

Now for the first time in 8 months we finally have the chance to show the developers what kind of games we want. Hundreds of people have tried to do so on the forums for ages, but i guess it doesnt count if you dont give them gems while you’re at it.

Now they’ll do bugfixes for a month, gather costum arena information for a month, looking at their trackrecord another 2 months for solo queue, and another 3+ months to make meaningful 3v3 out of useless hotjoin conquest maps, oh and i forgot an actual MMR we can see. Its not like those things are standard in e-sport games. So just sit back and relax, soon we will have the game we already paid 60 bucks for.

i hear your irony, but why not? did you ever try to go from 2000 range 1v1 with ranger? you are half hp once you reach him multiply it twice and use it against some paper nuker… dead

PS: im not sure about what teams you are talking about, nothing like 2v2 setups focused on 2v2 fights are not in this game so none could actualy think about it, not on competitive level for sure… maybe some duel like fights with your friends

It would be nice if A-Net would design a map designated for this. Nothing fancy just a large circular arena with a few pillars on the outside. You could even throw a capture point in the middle so you wouldn’t have to change any game rules. Ive noticed that middle point brawls are pretty popular in CA’s anyways.

It wouldn’t have to be balanced or used in a tourney rotation. Just something for us to mess around with in custom arenas.

You have clearly not played the 2v2 rooms.

I can almost say fights were BALANCED (YES!), we had a winner stays / loser leaves setup and there was never a dominant team, they could win 2 or 3 fights but there was always another team that ended up stomping them.

This game 2v2s are way more entertaining than wow, since theres still team coordination but it isnt all about getting cced 24/7 while ur other guy dies, or dealing with endless pillar huging + kiting fights.

I think 3v3 would get a little bit messy, havent tried it yet, how about someone make a 3v3 room as well?

Sounds like a lot of fun! I’m going to have to hop in and spectate a few of these.

I do think pillars or LOS would be necessary for official maps simply because range is already very dominate and without some way to LOS range you’d probably never see any melee builds surface. That’s just a theory though, without actually seeing any of these fights it’s really hard to tell.

There is a 3v3 room already, and I like it more than 2v2. There was a huge variety of team comps, some of them worked, some didn’t, but it was fun seeing something new.

Also, what is more important, these games are showing crazy variety of builds, from semi bunker boon stealing thieves, to shout healing condi damage warriors, where both were working very well. A lot of guardians were trying out glass cannon, mobility wasn’t the main thing needed to play, and there wasn’t much kitting because your teammates could always support you, since you aren’t really separated throughout the match like you are in capture mode.

The only problem is that a lot of the time you’ll see same people playing, while others that are trying to join just get frustrated over not being able to play this kind of mode. Some kind of algorithm that would choose random people each round is definitely needed.

All in all, these “arenas” are much more entertaining to play and watch, and I think ANet should support it through implementation of real arena maps, maybe with secondary mechanics worth using, and whatnot.

I definitely think arenas would be the preferred game mode for the less hardcore crowd. Sure conquest has more depth but at what cost to the average player? It is riddled with 1v2 fights along with bunkers and burst specs. Who enjoys fighting someone then have a burst class show up while your cds are down?

Conquest also has glaring issues with giving the player information outside voip. An individual has no control over what fights are taking place and where because they lack any sort of information. It just ends up lacking a sense of fairness which arenas provide.

Arenas then allow for the much more diverse set of roles that can be taken. Don’t have to worry about having high mobility and burst roamers, bunkers, things good at killing treb, etc. I think arenas will allow for more middle ground builds to show up. Balance is still a real issue though. I think saying it is a team game is just a cop out for balancing. Conquest gives you the option to 2v1 players with builds that are exceptionally strong in 1v1s or throw a bunker at them. Those options don’t showcase balance but give some tools to help minimize imbalances. Even with the current problems with arenas they are already showing more potential.

Personally I don’t think conquest is even the ideal gamemode for adding that extra layer of depth. It lacks phases, encourages bunkers, doesn’t provide a way to equalize uneven fights, doesn’t have the tension that a match can still be turned around from a large deficit and encouraging fleeing fights before they resolve. Now I do have a game mode in mind that addresses all that but… with how things have been handled so far I can’t exactly trust Gw2 to do it justice.
