Guardian Hate?
Previously, I tried posting a thread asking for which skills/traits act differently on every profession, and got very few answers. On the other hand, it seems other classes have some skills that even do extra damage in sPvP such as Warrior’s Whirling Axe.
Guardian:
Save Yourselves only works for 1/2 the duration
Selfless Daring only heals for 1/2 the amount
Retaliation does 33% less damageIs Guardian the only class that gets heavily nerfed in sPvP?

At equal skill any current guardian build will lose against a bruiser in 1 vs 1.
Guardians are now used as complements to thief due in Legacy of the Foefire if both teams runs 4 celestial classes the first one to take the center will win the match: without 2 dps classes is almost impossible to take down celestial bruisers in reasonable time, so they can run in circles around preventing the decap.
But arguably, the main reason due Orange Logo did run a guardian was because Tage uses guardian as his main class, not due guardians were in good spot. They aren’t, they are outside the meta. Same happens with Mesmers and -to some extent- Rangers.

There are people who play one class for years and get outplayed by newbies like no tomorrow.

Guardian is one of the least nerfed classes in sPvP (or anywhere else), it was also in every single team for nearly two years, is one of the best classes in PvE (go ask necros how PvE is) and has been mandatory in WvW for the entire game.
So your hard luck story is laughable, as is the “logic” of your thread.
i just run the staff/hammer zerg build i use in wvw. Lots of shouts, condi clear, stability, healing and most importantly, you can kick people off the point easy. i find no one uses stability in pvp and are just bouncing off wards half the time.

Guardian has been meta since launch.
1.) One of the easiest classes to play in the game
2.) Effective for very little effort because instant cast and skills such as Hammer 5
3.) And just so much team support such as Stand your Ground, blind spam, block spam.
Once again, people will refuse to understand this even though oRNG beat abjured with a Guard.

2) same as all classes, hammer 5 is useless in 90% situations
3) good at support lack in solo and dmg
I just recommend you to play guardian if you think they are good. After 1 month you will tell us your opinion if they are good as you said in the first place.
Retaliation damage also suffers 33% reduction in damage for WvW fyi. Even so it is still enough to kill people who spam AoE/pierce/cleave due to amount of players involved in zerg.
I’d love to see selfless daring back to 100% coefficient. It can potentially bring healway guards back to PvP, but this is just a wishful thinking. The potential in healway guard + one or two zerk teammate is quite a potent combination, but D/D ele can provide similar healing with more damage/mobility.
If I were to give you oRNG’s comp and tell you it will beat the Abjured 4-0 and win WTS by a landslide, you’d probably laugh at me.
No one thought the games would go as they did. We were all surprised by the Guards performance on several occasions, the good and the bad. Truth is, it was enough for the Abjured to not win a single game. Guardians are “In a good spot” no matter how you look at it.
Add the port patch… Guardians will no longer be in a good spot. It’s as if they continually want the Celestial Trio to dominate the meta.

you’re crying about the port nerf that will affect guardian? LOL, try a mesmer. Seriously, some people dont know how good they had it, so spoiled that they cant see beyond the big picture.

Retaliation and Confusion are reduced in PvP because players attack faster than NPCs. That’s perfectly reasonable.
Selfless Daring was one of the first nerfs in the live game when players were still learning and couldn’t figure out how to beat bunker guardians. Elementalist’s Signet of Restoration was cut by 50% around the same time, but that was later rolled back. Selfless Daring needs un-nerfed or at least have the PvP penalty reduced.
“Save Yourselves!” was nerfed in PvP around the same time because it provided a lot of offense and survivability in a small window. It wasn’t filling its role as support and was instead being used in damage builds.
Believe it or not (I play guard), I can justify the SY nerf. The number of condi’s in sPvP are not as drastic as in WvW and PvE. Therefore you get a lot for not really taking on much condi’s there. It could use a CD reduction though in sPvP.
SY in a zerg fight in WvW can almost insta kill you and you have to carry CoP if you want to build around it. In sPvP you can probably get away without CoP and it just becomes a ridiculous boon generator.
Selfless daring needs its full potential back in sPvP.
I dont understand why people have such a tough time with guards though, it might be because I play one that I find them the easiest in the game to fight (especially medi), but I really just dont comprehend how guard is so OP to everyone else.
Also to add, an engi has extreme potential holding points probably better than that of a bunker guard.
Guard is hard countered by Cele ele. This isn’t an exaggeration. If you want to out-rotate a guard comp, try and force the 1v1… there’s no place for a pure +1 in conquest IMO, and if you can put them in the situation where they’re either 1v1 or have to switch up team rotations then you’re doing well.
Just offering some advice for a possible strategy; I appreciate abjured lost to Orng, but it shouldn’t set precedent for all machups against zerk guard going forwards…
On my cele war I’d run fear me which can rinse them too, as the heal is an easy interrupt… again just highlighting weaknesses in matchups 1v1, which is an effective approach to take as we need to remember these guys aren’t bunkers like you see with celestial classes, and therefore can be pressured heavily by them even if the Guard is competent…

Guys, you’re way off topic. He asked if guardian was the only profession for which certain skills were weaker in pvp.
The answer is no. On the top of my head:
- Confusion damage has three different values across game modes. PvE damage > WvW > PvP
- The revealed debuff lasts 1s longer in PvP. 4s instead of 3.
- Cloak and Dagger damage is reduced by 50% in PvE.
So it’s safe to say that some mesmer and thief builds are more “nerfed” in pvp. But anyway, pvp is supposed to be the balanced game mode, so if anything these skills are “buffed” in WvW and PvE.

Guardians are great vs melee.
However once you get someone with ranged potential who knows how to kite & avoid the burst your pretty much screwed because the guardian does not have the spammable cripples/chills that allow them to stay on target easily.
Instead the guardian must rely on teleports (which are also tied to your stunbreak) & moderate-long CD immobilizes.
Really anything that is done by a medi guardian can be done better by a shout warrior.
Shout support guardians however do bunker quite well, they just can’t bunker while putting out CC and damage like an elementalist can.

They are good holders, at the cost of doing small damage. A bunker guardian trying to hold a point against a celestial ele, engie or warrior will end either losing the point or dying and losing the point. Maybe fighting n vs n the guardian bunker will have similar sustain and better team support, but those bruiser builds will melt the floor with their area damage.

You don’t know that they couldn;t have put another class in for Guardian and still won. The fact of the matter is perception matters. And really if you don’t play a Guardian just be quiet. I’m glad you think a class that has been strong in only one role since release, bunker, and has gotten more nerfs then buffs since release is a-ok. Thanks bud you’ve made me feel so much more better the fact all I see is clown medi guards and like 1% of guards are the old bunker specs I must be imagining all of this. Thanks for enlightening me.

If hammer 5 (ring of warding) is such a detriment to your gameplay that you get shut down because of it…then I have no words.
i can’t teleport through floors, this is going to kill my class, please ignore that it’s one of the strongest in the game and this changes absolutely nothing
