Hi, I might get some hate from fellow Spirit Ranger’s for posting how to counter us. First I’ll start with brief break down of the spirit’s used.

Fully traited Spirit ranger, will have 70% chance to proc it’s passive effective, it will active there active skill on death of the spirit, spirits also have 10 second internal CD on all passive effects. All spirit’s have a 1.1/2 cast time on both the casting of the skill and the active skill once cast.

#Stone Spirit, 4 seconds of protection when proc’ed this will ruffly proc every 10-20 seconds for team mate’s while in combat. It’s active skill is Quicksand with Immobilize for 2 seconds and cripple for 1 second with 45 second CD.

#Sun Spirit, 3 seconds of burning every 10-20 seconds. It’s active skill, blindness for 5 seconds with recharge of 25 seconds.

#Storm Spirit, swiftness for 10 seconds every 10-20 seconds. It’s active skill Call Lighting which does around 2-3k damage depending on your toughness, with a 20 second CD.

#Elite – Spirit of Nature, 1.1/2 cast time with 240 second CD, 320 heal per second and on command it will clear conditions/revive NEARBY allies.

Now I’ll explain what you need to look out for and how to counter spirit’s.

#Minor Spirits. Make sure your team comp has an effective way to remove the spirit’s without getting in range of the spirits active skill. E.g. if your an burst team take SB on your thief and 1-2 shot all his spirit’s at the start of a fight. If your an ELE do not charge in the spirit ranger, he will just hit his Active skills, know they will hit you and knowing you will wipe his spirits taking 2x the effect. Don’t be stupid don’t rush placement is key, once you wipe them spirit’s the ranger has lost all his team support for a good 50-60 seconds.

#Elite Spirit. Once you see the ranger’s elite cast, your hole team MUST focus down this spirit or the target your going to kill will just get ressed back up. Most burst teams can destroy the Elite really fast. It has 240 second CD so there goes the elite.

Ranged AoE is great for taking down Spirit’s also.

There really isn’t much more to say its that simple to beat a spirit ranger, once you have taken down the spirit’s the ranger is left with the lowest DPS in the game and sub-par condition damage.

The single biggest mistake teams are making atm, they leave the Spirit Ranger unchecked almost all fight and wonder why they taking so much damage vs the condition meta. It’s your own fault.

I’ve it happen to many so many times, a good guardian will spot the res and use a KB skill to interrupt the res from the spirit.

Well that clear’s that up, I’ve had my elite interrupted allot. Also brings up Warriors have some really nice Daze builds and correct me if I’m wrong I’m pretty sure few of there daze skills are aoe. You could also use mesmer shatter’s but i think that might be bit harder due to time frame you have to interrupt the elite.

How to kill a spirit ranger 1v1.

You don’t, end of story. If a ranger dies 1v1, remove him from your team.

Use another spirit ranger.

Daggerstorm + some Cluster Bombs and bye bye spirits.
The ranger will also be suffering heavy dmg and bleeding

want to kill spirit rangers? while the ideas are good, you guys are a bit off. Sure you can knock down the spirits, but if the ranger build him/herself properly, the pet will or ranger itself can dish out almost just as brutal damage.

You don’t want to AOE spirits, you want to condition damage them. Apply freezing, poison and torment. Because the spirits will kill themselves following the ranger.
Also, spirit of frost has no ICD.
Spirit of Nature doesnt revive defeated enemies, only downed (see game nerf notes for march/april)

You don’t seem to know this, telling me that you haven’t even tried to play a ranger, let alone a spirit ranger…. Spirits are useless before level 80, its a fact, so their OP ness, really only shine when you reach endgame, which is rare, considering most spirits can be unlocked before level 30.

Even necros or engis have no chance against a spirit ranger on the same level of skill. And who the kitten has time to kill each spirit first before even engage on the node? In tournament-play there is no time for such things. Mabye if you do a duell with a friend you have that minute. However a necro still do more DPS overall, so little chance that a ranger gets focused. The only thing to worry about it the rezz-spirit . . . that’s it.

Engis have aoe that just destroys them from, what I have seen. Also noticing alot of these KD/KB spammers now.

Well, if we consider Teldo is the best engineer, than I can tell you engineers have problems with a spirit rangers.

I don’t see how a top spirit ranger can take down a top necro.
-the spirits will be gone quick
-ranger has no burst, and if they do they’ll die even quicker from the necro burst

How would you counter a necro?

You pretty much evade all marks. Besides that the spirit ranger has enogh dmg to get a necro down. He can activate 2x the abilites of the spirits (1x on his + 1x on diying), if he still fails to get the nec down he can rezz himself up. Don’t forget the pet, which deals constant damage.

Also you have the advantage of lack of knowledge. The least players know how to perfectly play against rangers (this is not always accurate for top-players).

He was getting steamrolled and he kept blaming it on the spirit ranger. But every single time he died wasn’t due to the spirit ranger it was due to him rushing into 3-4 people without proper placement getting nuked down by burst from classes like Thief’s/Warriors/Mesmers. But no matters what this player would blame his death on the spirit ranger, even when there wasn’t one spirit alive he still blamed it on spirit ranger.

This goes to show players come to forums and read the QQ about a build and automatically blame it on a build being OP when it clearly it was there own fault and not some spirit ranger beating him down. Also his lack of knowledge for “self proclaimed top tier player” was shocking.

There are many self named “top tier players”, which have absolutely no clue about class-mechanics and general skills. But hey, you don’t really need it to succeed.

Use pistol whip. I haven’t seen it but I would not be surprised if a focus ele can win that fight either.

Well at least you guys have more options now. I really like the patch for Rangers it gives the class a pulse instead of needing to sit on this kind of passive garbage to be useful on a team XD
