I’ve been pondering the reasons why I don’t feel as compelled to play GW2 PvP as I did GW1. I’ve been trying to figure out the little details that really made that game stick in my hard drive for so long… and I think I found it.

What GW2 PvP Lacks:
Guild Wars 2 lacks challenge. This permeates all through the game not just PvP. It has slowly been rectified in PvE with the living story enemies but what about PvP? What exactly is the challenge that’s missing in this format? Is it other players? Is it achievements? Is it game modes? It isn’t just a single one of these, it is something that brings all these elements together.

The Solution
In GW1, Random Arenas had the challenge of asking you to try going on a 25 match win streak and every 5 wins you’d get a bonus chest. Doing something similar in GW2 is what I think would be ideal. May be not 25 but instead 12. So every 3 wins you get a bonus chest and at 12 wins you get a chest with a guaranteed rare and exotic and crafting mats. The reason for the size down would be because the matches in GW2 can take 15 minutes.

I also feel that the Random Arena queue system should be replicated for Solo queue; Winner stays on.
To clarify, the game picks random players, puts them in teams and asks them to fight one another, the winning team in that match up, stays on to fight another group of individuals that have recently queued or has just won another match of their own. If a player leaves after a match ends and that match isn’t at the end of your final match in your 12 match win streak, he gets replaced with a random person who just queued up for solo queue as well.

The Benefits
I feel this would do a lot to keep people playing the game for longer and some people may even learn more about teamwork since they spend more time with the same people if they win consecutively.

In the absence of new game modes, I think a system like this would really keep a lot of people playing and in the presence of new game modes, the system will only enhance replayability.

I do admit, I do not know the logistics that a system like this would entail but I do think it would enhance the game in a good way and I hope the PvP team, at least, considers it.

this might be applicable if the games were fast instead of 10 minutes.

make the games annihilation conquest mode.

annihilation means defeated players do not respawn unless hard revived (quite impossible in combat) so the match is over when the team is completely wiped.

in the event of a tie, no players on both teams are defeated, the team with more points due to holding capture points will win.

such games would end much faster, as the outcome of the battle is often decided when one team mate goes down and stomped accordingly.

fantastic idea, /signed, i used to love RA, though i still think the majority of the problem with not feeling inclined to play is down to balance, people playing meta clones will find the game mindnumbingly boring, and people not playing meta clones will find the game mindwrackingly frustrating, neither will want to play.

I play solo q because I just like testing my skill against speccs that people love to play the most but, beyond that, nothing else is keeping me entertained.
Even the new reward system is either just one and done (Balthazar Backpiece) or is the same thing in almost every line (the rewards aren’t very different from what you’ll find running around in PvE).

That being said, I don’t mind the reward system, I personally would just like a challenge. I don’t know about everyone else though. I know some people won’t play because of the over-abundance of Warriors.
