Guild Wars 2 PvP lacks community
It has a community. A rather large community in fact. It’s just a community with a very large mass of narcissistic aggro “bro’s” talking kitten 25/8/366 so if you’re liberal with the block function it ends up seeming pretty vacant.
;)
Yaks Bend
Where is it though? Does it solely exist in Mist chat? Cause even though I’m playing an MMO I get the feeling I’m playing this game solo. Sure, I could hit up PvE and would receive what I’m seeking, but I don’t have the time for that kitten and PvP is all I care about.
What grind?, I pvp because I like to kick ppl in the butt….the cool looking items is just a bonus.
The sense of community needs to be made by yourself and others. You are asking ANET to make friends for you?
The sense of community comes by everyones desire to get better at PvP. Then people get toghether and share experiences.
Ask yourself what have YOU been doing to improve the sense of community in your server.
@aleiro: … well put. I in particular like the "the desire to improve … ". There is just too little of that.
Have only been doing pugs so far, but they are a much better sign of the spontanous communication in pvp than when you enter with your own team.
Last night I did about 15 maps or so I think, I saw exactly ONE person say something at a certain point. That’s it… just that one.
Now it’s very true that if you start the communication yourself, others often follow. But in general the /team chat is completely silent.
No one cares, it seems.
It seems people have misunderstood me. When I say community I don’t just mean communication. I meant the public space where people could simple chill, chat, and duel it out.
Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have that. The lobby area doesn’t offer duels, so it doesn’t offer friendly competition and therefore banter.
I don’t expect ANet to make friends for me, but the entire point of an MMO is to play a game and interact with multiple other people. If I just wanted to play with my RL friends I’d simple lan it up.
I did understand Fatal, but I truely believe communication is linked to an exisiting community, that shared feeling of doing the same thing together.
There are two problems here.
1- PvP is too intense for people to actually stop and type. Most of the time you will be in movement.
2-Unlike TA and RA in Gw1, you do not remain in the same team when the match ends. For this reason these isn’t much time to bond as the people in your team are probably your enemies now.
I was really sad when I realized that they segregated the mists by server. I loved that in GW1 you had a place to go to mingle/form pugs with everyone else in the entire game (on your continent anyways) that was playing HoH. I feel limited in the fact that I can only form groups with the people on my server, which doesn’t have nearly as many people available to choose from.
Absolutely agree here, game is so instanced in PvP that it’s one of the first time that I’m feelin in a not persistant experience what so ever. That and the not possible way to communicate with ennemies in W vs W.
Kinda sad
Many people stay away from spvp because they want to play with their friends and they can’t.
Also I have tried and tried to help teams on what to do in spvp but no one listens which usually ends in an awful loss and people spamming rude comments blaming everyone but themselves for the loss lol
This is a real issue and its even worse then previous mmo bgs i will not list , nobody chats almost never inside the bgs and if they do its something like nubs , fail team or smthing similar. And basically same goes in the Mists lobby ppl either bragging on their lawl hard farmed rank or saying how boring the pvp is.
Glad I’m not the only one. Hope ANEt does something about this. Although, as much as I love the non-subscription basis, I find it very hard to see any motivation ANet has to change/improve anything, at least not any time soon.
if there was actual content in this game people would be less worried about the lack of community chat. fact is there is basically nothing but node humping in gw2. game has 0 pvp content to explore, and its only slightly better in pve and wvw. i have a 80 character and am rank 2x in pvp and i have no desire to keep playing because there is nothing different to do, and i mean NOTHING. this game is just a repetitious half copy of maybe 1 bg from previous mmo’s.
dont get me wrong i love the combat and fair level playing field in spvp, but the complete and utter lack of content WILL drive many people away leaving even more gaps in the community.
until devs smarten up and drop the whole “e-sport balance” crap we wont be seeing new content anytime soon since its “working as intended, take it or leave it” attitude they seem to have.
no i dont want better community communication or paid tourneys, i want real content updates that should have been in the game since release. if there was an actual reason for people to stick around instead of moving on to BETTER games with actual content then the community would build itself up.
/signed. It’s compulsory to have a dueling area to showcase skills in some kind of “unofficial tournament” like wow has in SW/Orgrimmar.
Additionally i agree it’s strongly instanced even in wow arenas you end up fighting with the same teams over and over and eventually chatting with them, when i play spvp it feels like playing with randoms.
And tournaments simply don’t work there’s no aim, anet needs to start putting some organization into this, this is far from being an esport this looks like a minigame inside a pve game (no concerns about the game in this aspect) but they sold the game like if it was going to bring a revolution to mmos pvp and ,as for now, it’s stale.
