Guild Wars would improve with 2v2's and 3v3's
Jeff just saved GW2.
See it the same. It would be HUGE.
It sure would be nice. We’ve been asking for new PvP modes for ages. True we got Stronghold, but it didn’t turn out all that well. Conquest does get very boring when you’ve done it for so long, on the same maps.
dueling /arena gameplay is huuuuuge, all we got is this time/cost-gated guild hall arena.
Sure it seemed nice at start but the more time passes the more I realize how much better an accesible spvp type arena would be to open new gamemodes. I’ve played games that revolved around dueling and TFFA for years without any fancy updates.
Dueling and arena gameplay would create a huuuge activity for players to stay online playing the game.
Honestly I’m having difficulty understanding why this has been missing from the game since launch. I would spend the majority of my game time in this mode
Thief
Mee too. I would be able to get into acion with my two RL friends having fun and trying build combinations easily and not Q for 5v5 ppl games. My friends would suddenly care for pvp …
Yes mate! I think everyone would love a lot 2v2 and 3v3
And as you said they can just make it as beta in unranked arena (with the possibility to choose it like for stronghold) in courtyard map.
Then they can see if the modality should be improved or left in the oblivion.
Also I’m disappointed that these kind of arena aren’t sill implemented.
I mean, after close to 4 years, we still only have conquest as modality for pvp…

The PvP team probably thinks adding more game modes would hurt pvp. But from what I see not adding 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, 3 vs 3, and 4 vs 4 game modes along with balance for the respective modes is players leaving the game.
A game that forces players to play how it is designed rather than the way players want will slowly decay. This is why they had to go free to play for Pvp they just can’t figure out why their game is having trouble and the players are telling them. Not just in the forums. You could go ingame, online polls, or redit.
I have been for other game modes since beta but they never added even when players asked for 1 vs 1 or even a simple dueling feature. The same goes for 2 vs 2 and 3 vs 3.
The reason (speculating of course) you won’t see it is because it goes against their vision of pvp.
I don’t see how it would improve the game but I don’t see it hurting it to an extent. As of today, we have many posts about nerfing x,y,z class – can you imagine the garbage posts we’ll get when you introduce a 2v2 or 3v3 game mode?
I’d much rather they improve upon the current 5v5 game mode than introducing 2v2/3v3.
They did add this but it was for PvE in the guild hall instead of the SPvP environment.
SPvP needs an automated 1v1 feature. Something similar to the Ascalon arena in GW1.
If everyone likes so much 2v2 , I don’t understand why none participates in 2v2 tournements anymore since 2015

Click a button to queue for an 2v2 or 3v3 arena is very different than subscrive yourself and friends in a tournament that isn’t supported by the game.
People are lazy.
Showing up on a set date & time for a tournament is kind of demanding on most people’s schedules. Being able to casually que whenever your schedule happens to allow it, is much more practical.
I never said that it would be equal. I’m just wondering why none of all those guys has ever participated in such a tournement if they enjoy 2v2 so much.
I would like a lot 2v2 or 3v3 but I never joined a 2v2 tournament, mostly because I’m lazy to go to sign myself. And to be honest I don’t even know where or how sign me for it.
If it would be inplemented ingame I would play a lot of it, even without any reward or leaderboard or any carrot on stick.
Like right by now that season is ended I miss really much an unranked versione of 3v3/2v2.

Well I don’t see much complain on forum coming from courtyard or stronghold players.
So I think that untill 2v2 and 3v3 arenas wuold be only an unranked version we will not see much people complain about his balance.
The mechanics are there..
It should be easily implemented even with just Courtyard as the first “beta” map to begin with.
Hey Jeff, I agree with you.
First, Courtyard was bad map because the respawn of players seems not a good mechanics.
It should end when all players of a team die. And to make sure it’s not a luck/RNG factor you do 3 of 5 games.
If your team win, you progress the queue, meaning you will face a team that did win his previous 3 of 5 best matches…
And so on.
Since you are a soloq guy, I encourage you to look at the place where people gather to form premade. Since, I got censored giving the link in different messages or answer, I will let you find it by yourself.
Guild wars 2 spvp is best played with players that you can rely on and have fun time with.

They already had the perfect map for this, Courtyard. They just didn’t support “arena” type pvp.
Would be realy great to have the following in pvp.
Three new buttons:
1.) Q for duel. Which will put you into a 1:1 arena. Whoever gets three stomps first wins.
2.) Q for 2:2. Also an arena where you fight with your buddy for lets say five total kills.
3.) Q for 3:3 teammatch in CTF mode. Curent maps can be used. Foefire migh work.
If everyone likes so much 2v2 , I don’t understand why none participates in 2v2 tournements anymore since 2015
There are several reasons.
1) It’s not a supported game mode. Difficult to have practice, no reward if you don’t win.
2) It’s an ESL competition, so it’s basically top tier. It means only top players can win this game mode. For other people is basically a waste of time.
The format works, there is no too much to talk about, with the right map (I don’t like Courtyard, too many LoS objects.) can be amazing.
A lot of pro in a structured supported game mode
- Easy matchmaker
- Easy to find people
- Not confusionary gameplay
- Really skill based
- Very good training for conquest too.
Pro for twitch
- only one action in one point, easy to watch
- Less confusion is better to understand what’s happening
- It’s not over until one dies.
BTW when we talk about 2vs2 in general we think about a pure Deathmatch 2vs2 or Annihilation 2vs2 (better imho) but there are other combinations really fun which could work (1vs1 + 1vs1, differente phase with secondary mecanics etc.).
But the general idea is
Keep it simple.
Basically the opposite Anet did with stronghold with a gamemode who requires huge communication and action split in too many spots. And the irony is they thought stronghold like a casual game mode, just because is less fight based.

Three main reasons why players didn’t get so involved in AGs AspectGGs:
- Difficult to dedicate the time if your IRL schedule conflicts with the tournament time. It’s hard to be so dedicated when you already know →
- Too many pro players are lurking around. It’s disappointing, unmotivating and plain boring to show up and get wrecked in round #1 by someone who plays video games as a cash propagating profession. Which leads to the final point →
- Why toss effort at and dedicate special time to a tournament that you know you are going to lose? In the end, most people decided that it wasn’t worth the time invested.
People love 1v1s, 2v2s but they love it when they are able to get home from work and casually sign in to a custom arena and look for a good duel on their own time, with opponents that are more in their skill range. A proper ranked que system for 1v1 or 2v2 would do these necessities justice.

Yes, pretty logic, I really hope Anet stop to try to reinventing the wheel and take the right decision about what’s the best move for the pvp side of this game right now, in this current status.
At 99% We’ll see a new game mode with the new XPAC, I really hope they won’t waste this chance anothe time.
Just keep it simple.
So many ways to implement a 2v2/3v3 on a map like Courtyard that i’m thinking Anet feels it’s “too hard”. Their excuse was the “fear of seperating player base amongst gamemodes” when this was literally months before Stronghold announcement. It can even be implemented between seasons so they don’t lose the player base… there’s no excuses to be had.
- Time limit of 5m per round.
- Rounds best out of 3.
- Lowest health; most downed team member(s) will lose the round.
- No double sustain amulets i.e toughness+vita, vita+healing power, etc.
- A Chieftain type objective on opposite ends with a 3m match spawn.
Sky is the limit with how a 2v2 or 3v3 gamemode TDM could happen.

Yeah, all of the things that they’ve been afraid of separating the player base are actually the things that would help build player base.
Not sure why they don’t see this.
