I just saw that guild wars 2 is finally available in MLG which is also hosting a cash price tournament tomorow. Does it mean that guild wars 2 is finally an esport? If so, than I would like to congratulate:

-ArenaNet for their hard work, I really mean it, even though there were some ups and downs. But still, you didn’t give up, and you reached your goal! Good job!

-Tpvp community. I hate you all. But without you, the passion driven this game wouldn’t exist. Thank you

GW2 PvP is great but unpopular. Don’t think it’ll work.

Well, terminologically e-sports is just the competition with the utilization of the pc.

GW2 has the best PvP and PvP balance from all other MMORPGs around there. There is not a single title nor will there be one in the near future that can compete with GW2. That’s a great achievement! (Ofc we can’t rest now, there is a lot of work to do.)

I think the biggest problems gw2 has atm, is the misinformation, that gw2 is not a good game, and is no different than any other mmo out there.

*) You can start playing pvp in gw2 after you are 10 minutes into the game without any disadvantage to a player with 1.000 hours of playtime. You have access to every skill and every item from the start!

*) GW2 SPvP is not a grind feast no item tiers! You can start competing with the top-players from the beginning!

*) Best balancing of all MMORPGs!

Let’s wait on the viewer numbers of the MLG tournament. I think at this point the importance does not lie in the total viewer numbers, but in the relation of active gw2 players and people who are getting interested in playing gw2 after watching the tournaments.

Teutos is right, GW2 has the best balanced spvp among all MMORPGs (at least that I have played).

This whole MLG thing seems like an advertisement that conveniently landed at the start of the free trial. I mean Arenanet paid the prize money, MLG didn’t.

I would have faith that GW2 would be an eSport if there was an interest in SPvP, but NO ONE plays it. There are like 100 players at any given time queuing. Even on Twitch the SPvP channels get no more than 200 viewers.

As others above have stated, ArenaNet is offering the prize and MLG simply “allowed” it in to see how successful it will be.

GW2’s is probably the most balanced online game I’ve seen that involves heroes/classes (ie, not a FPS), but sPvP is way too restrictive.

For a start, it needs more game modes.

A couple devs said two years ago that they thought the PvP would be great and might even be e-sport material, and suddenly the forums make it out to be some grandiose promise that also somehow ruins WvW and makes the 60$ box price a license to qq endlessly. Huh?

This claim is as untrue as the claim that bunkers dominate the PvP meta, which for some reason WvW players still believe. (I think their commanders keep telling them that to keep them in the zerg, honestly.) Everyone has a right to qq every once in a while, but can we stop being so incorrect all the time?

Online events are basic , LAN events make sure all teams are equal. A online toruny win has no weight compared to a LAN event where you can see who you’re fighting face to face.

Guys, keep in mind that it works both way; if areneNet keeps working their kitten off, but you, as a tpvp community, just give up, or start all those flaming war, it simply won’t work.

A community may have some ups and down like in real life. But they all have something in commun: they rarely ever give up when they face a problem They respect eachother, and work TOGETHER to reach together their goal. Please, it’s the only way to still make this possible. And don’t you dare bringing me that “I paid 60$ for this game” … This is simply not a viable counter-argument.

Guild wars 2 may have some current glaring issue “cough” leaderboard" cough, but it’s by insulting arenaNet and their father that we will ever advance. Get rid of this mentality, or just don’t call yourself part of a community.

Hmm? It’s all about the domino effect. More bugs and exploits will result into more pve exode, into less ressource, into not enough potential pveer who will migrate to pvp ( It’s already low as it is because of gear/cosmetic earned in pve/wvw not available, and on top of that, we got a rather low pvp population, spliting skills with cause massive confusion among the player base who will feel obligated to learn 2 or 3 (wvw) playstyle to fully play gw2), into less pvp patch fix/balance change, into esport being an apparent impossible esport. It’s already struggling to be bordeline esport. Spliting skills is simply costly and too risky for arenaNet to consider it.

So how is that any different from gw1

ANet literally said they were going for e-sports from the get go… the community didn’t just pull that out of their hat, hence why they get so much flak for their terrible unbalanced and bland pvp.

Don’t forget they only have like 2 people balancing (clearly that hasn’t changed since a year ago) and they hardly care anymore. It was just hype, but don’t blame it on the players.

It’s ok I can keep repeating myself if you are having trouble reading, it’s np
gw1 is prequel to gw2, and its pvp combat is structurally identical to other mmos (gw2 in this case). that’s why it’s directly comparable. the quasi-persistent pve world is irrelevant. lol and dota are a different class of games entirely, where competitive pvp involves starting a new character and leveling during match.

i have been waiting for you to say the only intelligent and reasonable reason why gw1 should be excluded from “best pvp” competition, and if you don’t come across it yourself i will give you a hand.
