… just give up on strider’s defence. I’m almost sure, you’re going to raise that trait to 50% next balance patch (after the upcoming one) and then it will become too powerful and then you will nerf it back down again which will then make it useless again.
So please, I’m begging you with all the creative ideas you have. Just change the trait.

don’t worry, if they make it 50% “next balance patch” then we’ll all be long dead anyway, our distant descendants will have to make the melee rangers for us!
on a more serious note, how about this for strider’s defense
*Strider’s Defence"
“passive: You reflect Projectiles while evading and gain 2 seconds of retaliation for each attack evaded.”
so whenever you use auto 3 if someone shoots you with ranged weps you will reflect it, if someone hits you in melee or ground targeting you gain retaliation.

Better yet:
“After you dodge gain 2 seconds of Striders Defense (non-stacking), Striders Defense destroys incoming projectiles. Dodging also returns some of the endurance used.”
Hey now, that sounds fun and interesting. Like a super version of the thief’s Feline Grace, just takes more trait points.
ArenaNet: “We’re still trying to figure out how to put needed RNG in our combat.”

Speaking as a Ranger main, Ranger doesn’t need more dodges, nor does it need benefits from dodging. Evading has its own obvious benefits.
Both your suggestion and the suggestion of the guy above are clearly overpowered. Dodging needs to be toned down in this game.
Just because thief has broken mechanics which keep it as the top berserker spec doesn’t mean we should add those type of mechanics to other classes.

Okay then, keep Strider’s Defense to a 20% chance to destroy projectiles. It’ll join the lonely trait pile with Dhuumfire.
Thief has broken mechanics? I main an Elementalist, I find them balanced. The combat doesn’t need less dodging, it needs no invincibility skills (AKA Endure Pain) and a punishing mechanic if you dodge too much (AKA under 50% endurance when health reaches 0, you die, do not go into downed state) to give that zerker classes more risk for their reward.
Besides, it doesn’t matter in the end, rangers are being buffed wrong.

I’d prefer to see it be a useless trait than one that added more dodge centric gameplay to the mix.
Brief invincibility skills are ok as long as they are factored into the design of the classes overall sustain. Elementalist and Mesmer also have brief invulnerability skills.
If you watch a really good thief play S/D, its pretty clear that that set is not balanced. D/P is balanced because there is proper risk and reward in the gameplay.
Downstate is alright (terrible for wvw and pve), but I’d prefer to see a 1 res, 1 rally system. Where only one person gets up if one person is ressed. I’d also prefer to see conditions stay on a target once downed and one revived.
My original suggestion for a change to this trait was;
“On evade, your next attack does 20% more damage.”
Just think. Ranger may become one of the best classes for jumping into a pile of engineer turrets with greatsword.

Dev: we think Maul isn’t working as we want it to be therefore we rework this skill completely. Maul now is a combination of Hundred Blades + Whirling Wrath while keeping the Cooldown the same. We believe Rangers are going to love it.
Well they buff rangers completely wrong, they needed a survability buff not a damage buff. Now glascannon rangers will be op and the group support bunker ones will still be as crappy as ever. And since we still die faster then any other glass we need to go full glasscannon too kill before we get killed, with the crazy damage it will be with the buffs. So we are getting forced to one spec in pvp thats just stupid. And it takes away the fun since we need to tactics to play anymore, just kill from range with longbow, no tactical thinking needed, like we do now.

No by that time…most of us will be ummm…doing some weird futuristic type thing with some weird kitten futuristic MMO something.

I sort of wish that I still knew where to find that video of me discussing the new traits when they came out. I called this nonsense when they were previewed. Then again, we all know that using a hard-counter-centric philosophy is the only way to balance anything in GW2, right guys? We have to preserve the integrity of Rock-Paper-Scissors Online: Rotation Whack-a-Mole edition.
I just want to say that I might have been wrong about when you would do it….. but I was kitten right that you would do it.
Strider’s Defense: This trait’s chance to destroy projectiles while executing a melee attack has been increased from 25% to 50%.
Please guys, just come up with something else.
Also just let Shatterstone die. It was dead on arrival anyway.
