HUGE Dishonor System Issue
Right now I am afraid to PvP. My computer is new and has a random crashing problem. (sometimes happen twice in one day sometimes doesnt happen at all). Anyhow I have not PvPed due to the dishonor system timer because when the freeze happens I have to do a full shutdown and restart. This will sometimes take more then 60 seconds.
I am playing other aspects of the game as the freezing problem is not severe and I think its a driver update conflict but has not resolved yet. In the end I would really like to PvP but I cant chance getting stacks of dishonor for this reason.
I don’t think it would be a good thing for all of the people you would be playing with if you would crash mid-match and effectively ruin it, knowing that your computer is unstable. I understand you want to PvP, but it sounds like you should work on fixing your computer first.
Your correct thats why I didnt. However, it brings to mind the big issues with random crashes and ones that are just due to bug errors encountered in the game basically. It can take more then 60 seconds depending on a persons computer to get back in game. So I would suggest maybe editing it to a halfway compromise, of 90 seconds.
Tbh the system is a massive fail. Not in the idea but in the implementation you made.
How come you thwart people playing this game ? C’mon I mean, there are massive fails and issues in the bloody pvp part of this game and you come and dishonour people for having a crash once in a while ?!
Just put realistic values. The games last in average 10 minutes (or even less maybe), and you put a 40 minute ban on a player for not reconnecting in a short span of 60s ? In 60s, what can happen ? If the player has a slow computer, he’s basically rekt. If the player’s internet crashs, it might even take around 2mins.
It doesn’t really make a difference, you will almost always lose the game, so why do you guys put a 60s threshold ? Plus, if you reconnect and win the game, you get the dishonour stacks anyway… seriously ?! I thought your system was there to pressure people who wanted to ragequit/leave/afk. If the player comes back in and wins the game with his team, d’ya really think he wanted to leave intentionally the kitteng game ?
Dishonour is a good idea, the implementation is a failure at so many levels.
Pliz devs get your game fixed before annoying people with dishonour.
Punishing players for d/cing and returning is your call, but don’t expect your playerbase to grow with this system in place. I for one will not recommend this game to ANYONE in it’s current state.
I think Dishonor grace period should be increased to 2.5 minutes. This should catch all the slow loaders and most modem/router resets. Being lenient to all those with good manners and best intentions to play should be a big priority. Need to extend the olive branch on this issue, so the game remains accessible.
One person unjustly punished creates a lot more bad will than 10 rage quitters not getting penalized.

I understand if you crash and do not come back for a certain period of time, but dishonor for swapping characters mid game? What if you are on an alt and need your main? I just swapped to a warrior mid match after we already had 1 DC and a guaranteed loss and got 15 minutes.
Bit excessive, but I like the dishonor system.
Does anyone know how long dishonour lingers for after the first offense?
My connection is a bit unreliable today. I disconnect during a match and then return to complete it, but I recieve dishonour and a time out of 15 minutes. Then I wait about an hour because I am dead scared of timeout rising exponentially. I queue up again an hour later, random DC, and now I have a 45 minute time out. Thanks, maybe I should just quit for a few months until I have a better connection. I’m not even going to test the next time out. What’s it going to be? 12 hours?

It’s pretty annoying. Crashed out game, logged back in, soon as i’m back in I have an hour dishonor. Completely not my fault, nothing I could do to stop it. Have GW2 on my SSD so it loads hella fast. But still got the Dishonor.
This Dishonor is far too Draconian and unnecessary. GW2 already forces you back into the match, so you already can’t do anything else. The timeout needs to be smarter. Got DC’d from GW2 last night in a match with Guildies – logon servers unavailable for a few minutes. Finally got back in, played for several more minutes, where we won the match… and I get at 16 minute timeout for “abandoning the game.” If I rejoin the game and contribute, it should cancel out the Dishonor. Similarly, if I get DC’d with insufficient time to rejoin before the match ended, it shouldn’t be given out. 60s is fine for me, but I’m on an SSD and even that is cutting it close, presuming I can log back in immediately.
Additionally, I haven’t been hit by it yet, but why are people not accepting the match prompt getting hit with Dishonor? I don’t really see an issue there – I mean, the match prompt is already there as a way to make sure a person is there and if they drop out of it, they drop out of it.
Really it needs to discourage actually abandoning the match, especially early on where it makes the biggest difference. Beyond that, I think it’s doing way more harm to legitimate players trying to play than the intended function. Especially when I see far far far fewer people just up and leaving matches than almost any other online PvP game. It feels like you’re trying to be overly harsh to solve a problem much bigger than what actually exists and ends up doing more harm than good. And with that, we already have fairly long queue times for PvP – all the extra timeouts for people that don’t really need it just decreases the pool of available players even further.

You cant queue outside of HotM cause if Q pops when you’re in a loading screen, you can miss it, so 30s arent enough for a screen load, but after they give you dishonor if you cant launch the game and load two screens in 1 min

- please fix it so that launching gw2 while you’re in a match loads directly to the match instead of having the 2 map loads through HotM.

Please put a character selection combo box in a match. Select that character, reload the map with new character.
Going into through 3 screens is way too much.

man you guys need to reduce the dishonor timer nonsense, 1 hour! each time i dc and not happen to get back in time, like seriously, i was having fun with pvp but now u guys are ruining it, the whole concept doesnt make any sense, when i accepted to be in the match, unfortunately dced for a bit, came back in about 10mins left and i get an hours timeout, something that is out of ur control, its a game anet not school or work were u get ridiculous punishments, you seriously need to give this another thought and keep it fair but still fun, cuz atm 1 hour timeouts is not fun at all, gonna quit gw2 at this rate pvp is the only thing i enjoy, if anything make unranked timouts a bit more realistic, for ranked maybe be harsher but not 1 hour!
Why not leave it up to the players that you impacted by disconnecting. Just post a message at the end of the match that player x disconnected. Would you like to accept your match results, or should the player who disconnected pay for their actions.
If a player votes yes they either sacrifice a pip for each negative vote or have 10 minutes of dishonor for each negative vote to account for the persons time they wasted. Another option would be to make a special queue for people that can’t stay connected for a full match. It is not fair to punish 4 people for one person’s problem.
The grace period is adjustable, and is there to account for restarting the game and hopping back in. We can change the grace period to be longer if we see that it is not long enough to account for the majority of people reentering the game.
The dishonor also applies immediately, so if you d/c and come back to play early, you’ll have worked off some of the timeout by the end of the match.
Well, you have to also remember right now that load times are awful because of the tons of players in each world server. It used to take me ~15s to load into the PvP lobby, it’s been upwards of 1:30 in the last couple of days at primetime. That’s a problem that obviously isn’t being accounted for.
