and the stupidest grown-ups who are the most grown-up.”

If a player from your team deserts the match, and your team is then defeated, you’ll lose no pips for that match (and the match won’t count as a loss should you be on a win streak).
My wife and I just played a ranked match while on a winning streak. But as I’ve come to expect, team chat did what team chat does, and one guy ragequit, leaving the game. We lost, of course.
I had just advanced to the next tier in the emerald division, so I didn’t have any “valence pips” to lose. However, my wife did, and she lost one at the end of the match. Also, it appears to have counted as a loss (apparently ending our winning streak).
What’s going on?
EDIT: In case someone tries to look into this, the match ended at 10:33 pm CST.
did either team get to 400 points ? i think desertion doesn’t count if 400 or maybe 300 points are hit
otherwise you could do your team a solid and log out to prevent the other four from losing a pip; the penalty is only 15 minutes anyway – one extra long pee break

We had a dc at the beginning of a game then came back halfway, for sure there is no winning that match. Still lost a pip.

The score was 166 to 500.

oh, the system might not count it if the person comes back

Ours didn’t come back, though.
And as I recall, there’s a “grace period” before it counts them as a deserter… I want to say 2 minutes? After that, even if they come back, it counts them as a deserter.
Maybe that’s part of it. The guy left our match a few minutes into the game, but according to my match history, the whole thing lasted just over 7 minutes. Maybe he wasn’t gone long enough to be counted as a deserter before the end of the match.
If that’s the case, I think the system is flawed. The amount of time it would take to, say, reboot your computer (if it crashed), open Guild Wars 2, and reconnect to the match— that is, the amount of time that should be allowed by a “grace period”— is way too long to use it as a criterion for “forfeit” of games. Just 30 seconds of 4v5 can be enough to change the outcome of the match, but it’s nowhere near enough time to allow a player to reconnect.
Still, decoupling the two would present its own problems (“I’ll just DC long enough to count it as a forfeit but not long enough to get a penalty!”), so I don’t know what the answer is.
But that’s assuming this was the cause of the discrepancy. That may not be the case at all, I don’t know.
