Hammertime - what's the deal with Hammer Warriors?
Dodge and stun breaker is enough to survive.
Alts: Warrior, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist (bunker)
Random blinds are enough actually. That’s how easy it is to deal with a Hammer.
Dodge and stun breaker is enough to survive.
Well it’s kind of difficult to Dodge or Blind anyone if you’re locked out of all your abilities once he’s started his CC chain. You can’t always see them coming you know and weapons swaps are instant.
Well stun breaker on first stun if you can’t dodge it, then try to dodge his second stun. I only die to hammer warriors when they are in groups and I have no stun breaker, they don’t do much damage on their own.

Ok, maybe I’m missing something but it seems like if they catch me without a stun-breaker I die without being able to do anything.
It goes stun into stun…into another stun, at the end of which I am typically dead.
Most of the time I can’t use a single ability because of this kind of chain CC.
Is the only counter to such a thing a stun-breaker? I mean even if you do use it successfully the fact that they can chain one stun into another…with the recipient unable to move or act….just seems stupid.
I’m asking for help here. Maybe there’s something I don’t know, some mechanic I missed. How can I not be caught in this kind of CC stun chain?
It’s the Anet model. Allow classes to completely obliterate other classes while those other classes are unable to defend themselves. They really don’t have a clue about class balancing for PvPs situations not involving PvE intermingled. But who cares, they have your money.
Hammer is a very slow responding weapon. Good opponents dodge it easily all the time. All least when it hits, it hits pretty hard, if built for it.

I’m not sure if I should laugh at you or be angry at your stupidity. Every single build/class/setup/play style/game mechanic is countered by multiple builds/classes/setups/play styles/game mechanics. Name ONE CLASS that “completely obliterate[s] other classes while those other classes are unable to defend themselves”. I dare you.

Phantasm mesmer takes anything in 1v1.
My grenade engineer kills every single phantasm out in 2-3 normal grenades. My staff ele has ice spike, lava font, eruption, arcane blast. 2 examples off the top of my head. Not only that, but Phantasm Mesmers can only burst on single targets. Zatria says there are classes that completely obliterate other classes and the other classes are UNABLE TO DEFEND THEMSELVES. This is completely untrue.

Good luck with that, unless you kill the phantasm the second it is summon I still get a 4-5k damage off per phantasm.

Well you do have a chance to defend yourself against a good mesmer… but in the end you will ultimately fail.
The fact that we have two people complaining about hammer warriors is proof enough that people want to be spoon-fed victory. Nothing should ever be difficult or else the game is not balanced and the devs have stolen your money. What a joke.
How do you win vs hammer warrior? Dodge and stun break and blocks and blinds and snares and cc.
Yeah because you can totally do all that crap when you are chain CC’d for 9 seconds without being able to do anything.
It’s terrible balancing if “no stun break” = guaranteed death.
I prefer things to be less deterministic and you know….actually not being stun-locked to death. I thought we let that kitten behind us in WoW.
In my book this is every ounce as bad as Thief Backstabs.
I actually have to say that unlike some other builds, you can both see Hammer Warrior coming and have time to dodge the attacks as they’re slow and telegraphed. If you’re not bringing stun removal to PvP you’re just begging to be stunned, aren’t you?
Yeah because instant weapon switches and internet latency aren’t a thing.
Your decoy was ruined when you tried to compare Hammer Warrior to a Backstab Thief, it became immediately apparent what your class is.
If you run around with 12k health and 900 Toughness, without a single shadowstep, no Hard to Catch, no snares to counter Earthshaker/Bull’s Charge… well, you will die. Not as fast as a 3k armor, 25k health Warrior would die against your backstabs, but still you will die.
You thieves are going to such great lengths to try and justify your OP class it’s really getting quite insane.
I’ve actually fought quite a few hammer warriors lately and thought it was odd. They may knock me down a couple times but ultimately their damage isn’t anywhere near burst and if you CC them there doesn’t seem to be much they can do to you. Even my pet is effective against them and if you know anything about Ranger pets, that’s kinda sad by itself.
You pretty much just kite them or CC them to death, or at least that’s what I do. Keep them crippled and dodge a one or two of their stuns here and there. Sure they’ll get you a couple times but as I said, they don’t really have any burst.
I can see how they can be deadly in team fights, but in 1v1 I’ve not lost to very many warriors in nearly a month, maybe one or two.

I second this.
There’s nothing wrong with Warriors and they are no where near OP. The Thief is the biggest annoyance in the game right now and no amount of exaggerated posts about any other profession is going to change that.
The ONLY thing people may agree is on is that Mesmers are still pretty hard to beat 1v1 but at least they’ve been toned down enough to make it doable now if you bring your A-Game and know what you’re doing. Doing that much against a Thief will only buy you a few seconds depending on the class you play.
oh my goodness hammer classes are my favorite prey. Their attacks take almost as long as it takes to regen my energy to keep dodging them all day lol. I admit its a little bit lame when its a tiny asura and I can’t read the telegraphs in a team fight. Different race sizes is flawed for balanced pvp imo though.
I tried hammer and went away from it to a shield because hammer gets schooled by anyone who bothers to keep tools to maintain their mobility—which is anyone that would rather win than make excuses. If I had a preset group that needed a controller, I might consider the hammer but it just doesn’t put down the hurt to keep your health from running down before any enemy capable of kiting or significant mitigation.
Mesmers, by comparison, are a hard win. Unless you’re piercing to hit them or 1-2 shotting their illusions, the good ones manage to hide behind a wall of meatshield illusions until you’re just plain out of tricks. Still winnable, but significantly more powerful than a hammer warrior.
Thieves have their damage grotesquely skewed into one ability per spec, and if it gets frontloaded you’re in alot of trouble. Review your damage taken log after a death to a thief and you’ll find significant raw damage from a single ability, be it a backstab or heartseeker. They’d still be dangerous, but significantly more manageable, if they had more to handle than making sure they land that button.
Yeah because instant weapon switches and internet latency aren’t a thing.
I play with more latency than you and I don’t seem to have much issue with hammer-wielding Warriors.
I second this.
I third that.

Nerf hammers.
No one should be able to kill you without being able to respond in kind.
Sincerely,
- Thieves
I’ma just break this down into popular builds right now and pick your argument apart.
Hammer warrior never ever kills guardian alone ever for any reason
Hammer warrior never kills a necro with any life force due to fearing even while stunned
Hammer warrior never kills a mesmer because distortion and blurred frenzy exist on every mesmer build thats popular
Hammer warrior never kills ele because ~8s stability at 50% health on most ele builds because dps ele is bad and you deserve to die
Hammer warrior never kills engi because smoke bomb/elixir s/plethora of interrupts exist
Hammer warrior should never kill thief because lolwut?
Hammer warrior might be able to kill hammer warrior under right circumstances
Mesmer / Thief / Necromancer
I thought it was mandatory in PvP to take at least one or two stun breakers, and if you don’t, then you are a bad player.
You’ll need to tell us what class you play Dee Jay if you want to get specific advice on how to handle them. The trick is to dodge/cripple/kite like others have said, but the details of how to do that differ depending on the class.
Wow…really? A thief complaining about a hammer warrior? I think I’ve seen it all now…
Here’s a handy hint. Press roll for initiative then press steal once and you become an invincible whirlwind, take no damage and can’t be knocked down all the while doing damage. There, i’ve just won the fight for you.
This is shows your average thief skill. They’ve been so spoilt by having huge instant damage on one button key presses which need no skill whatsoever to kill people they forget sometimes they need to stun break/blind/ use actual tactics to win fights.
Or if roll for initiative is down? – Press dodge twice, go stealth and walk away, get helath back, comeback and kill the warrior. Absolutely no way a hammer warrior can kill you in a stun lock. Not actually possible.
If you have no stun breaks? – Why are you in pvp with no stun breaks. Go back to pve (jesus, I even use stun breaks in pve….)
You know if hammer warrior gets first hit and u got no stunbreaker ur 100% dead.
But thats how it should be doesnt it ? if you got no defence thief instagib u. If u got no condition removal necro own you too, you cant expect to win in all situations withouth having to prepare for them. That beeing said Hammer warrior is not even close to OP as long as you have your stunbreaker up and dont encounter him right out of first fight.
It’s not OP it’s just ridiculously tedious to deal with :P Losing control of your character is never fun.
It’s like Guardians that use multiple spirit weapons. Not really that strong, just really really really annoying.
Yeah because you can totally do all that crap when you are chain CC’d for 9 seconds without being able to do anything.

Yes because even if there were no 100b, hammer stun, pistol whip, spirit weapon spamming, a PvP build without a stun break is a good idea..
If you refuse to pack skills that are more suited for PvP and survival like stun breaks, well eat the stun. You knowingly made the choice, stability is something not all classes can easily access but a stun break is something everyone has, just on differing cool downs and forms.
And no, hammer warriors can’t kill anyone solo in one combo, unless of course you’re running glass cannon. If you’re running glass without a stun break, you deserve to get squished and don’t really have a well thought out PvP build.
Hammer warriors are great, but not as threatening as I originally thought they could be due to a lot of reasons people have outlined before me.
Peechez must be bad.
Taugrim plays a hammer warrior and owns. And unlike you he posts videos and streams his gameplay. I’ll take my own eye over your simplistic and narrow view any day.
Tata.
