Hello everyone was hoping someone could help me out, finally able to sit down at start playing.

Looking for a class that is hard to master, and be really good at, one that you really have to think about what your doing, or what your going to have to do next.

I play a Warden in LOTRO so it was a challenge learning all the gambits and knowing what would have to be done next or knowing when you needed to reset your gambits and start over.

Any advice is much appreciated TY!

Sadly, the hardest class to master in this game is not the most rewarding results-wise.

Well necros do have some problem right now but you for sure have to pay attention to what your doing but at the same time a really good necro can really change how a match goes.

Not sure about Ranger to be honest, they’re pretty hard to play but I don’t know what their full potential is like.

Though I can safely say one of the classes you might want to look at would be Warrior. The one that doesn’t have Bulls Charge and Frenzy on 789.

Ranger does not feel hard to me, but then again I usually end up playing some kind of ranged archer on every mmo I have ever played to the point I feel like playing ranger is cheating. I think Elementalist is harder to master than a Necro, I think necro is a higher learning curve as well but it seems worse than it is because of the bugged abilities that do not work, a fully functional Necro that can utilize more than one spec and maybe who has lifegain that SCALES in some sort of sane way ( not 27 lifegain lol) seems like it would be far more durable than an elementalist. After that Engineer… I really respect good engineers, I do not see enough of them in games.

I’d have to say Engineers and Elementalists (except +Healing power/Bunker specs on both).

This. Between the different kits and attunements the amount of versatility and adaptability, along with sheer number of abilities available to learn and decide between at any given moment, keeps these two classes at the peak of the skill cliff in the game and a shining beacon of how every class SHOULD have been designed (imo).

Brynhildn of Landroval here (warden). I’d say the closest thing to warden in terms of complexity would be Elementalist in that you have to know how all 16 of your weapon skills (and have out of combat weapon swaps for 16 more per weaponset) and how they interact with each other. There’s a ton of interaction with combo fields that is essential to learn and the ability to plan ahead to anticipate and adapt to your opponent is necessary. Difficult to master but, like warden, if you succeed you can honestly say you outplay your opponents.

It’s far more cooldown dependent than Warden in LoTRO but there isn’t a rough equivalent to gambits here.

Ty for the help everyone, going to go with the Elementalist, sounds like there a lot of fun, and a lot you can do with them.

Bunker guardian…

A good class in complexity and results is the Ranger in Trap+Condition Damage build. You have to do a strategy, place the traps in the right place and use it whit a precise order, use different strategy in different situations and always see the enemy position to place your traps and maximize your damage. It’s a dangerous build because if you don’t place your trap in the right way you can’t do all your damage and the enemy can kill you easy. High risk, but high damage if you find how to use it. You must play on the enemy, take them where you want and don’t make them move away from your traps. If you’ve success, the enemy can only die.

Ranger, you are sub par in everything. Its a class that should be removed

I would say either necromancer or elementalist, but currently elementalist would be better since necro has so many bugs. You should visit class forums, since there you can read many topics about every class regarding builds, bugs, pvp and pve, etc.

not a single profession is actually hard to play

bunker guardian is not EASY to play but its the most rewarding out of the hard to play classes,
the HARDEST class to play is the elemtalist because you pretty much cant deal damage unless you take the time to stack buffs and use combos.. its very unrewarding though, but it will keep you intersted and workign hard for your results.

No profession is hard to play in this game. I’d list them in this order:
1. Ele
2. Engi
3. Necro
4. Mesmer
5. Ranger
6. Warrior
7. Thief
8. Guardian

I’d have to say thief. Sure it’s the easiest thing in the world to 3shot people who dont run any toughness and aren’t running any stunbreaker/paying attention, but it’s probably the easiest class to die on as well.
You have to have insane reaction-time to blind/evade/stunbreak out of enemy backstabs, eviscerates, etc. because they all 1hko you.
Not to mention in a pinch if you miss a shadowstep (misaim or stand in the wrong position) it’s basically a suicide.

Well now its a toss up between thief and elementalist, I really like all the stuff an elementalist can do, but i really don’t like robes could never see my self wearing them, Just going to try them both out then, and see which I like more TY for the help everyone.

Thief is pretty easy to play, hard to master.

Ele/Necro get my vote. I wouldn’t exactly say they are hard to play, but they do take a bit longer to get used to than other professions, and they do feel rewarding to play because each can really turn a fight around if played properly.

Well, this might be a little biased since I’m a big fan of daggers/stealth classes.

Mesmers. They have so much versatility, so much utility, it’s just crazy. Once you do master all that Mesmers have to offer, they are extremely rewarding.

I’m not sure why everyone here keeps saying Elementalists aren’t very rewarding. They are! Once you do master this class, you’ll be amazed by all the possible combos at your disposal, the adaptability and the amazing mobility you get.

Thieves are really easy to get into, since you get to spam the skill of your choice repeatedly. However, this won’t be very rewarding. Usually having low defenses, you rely on your evasion, mobility and stealth to survive. The high damage output means once you do master your defenses, this class can be extremely deadly.

Overall, I’d say the class design in this game is sooo good that you would want to go with the class whose gameplay you find the most interesting. The more you enjoy it, the more you learn about it, the better you get.

Ele, Engi & Necro pretty clearly have the highest skill floors and probably the highest skill caps too.

Thief is the big FOTM class. If you do not want to see many other people in matches playing your same class, avoid it.

Mesmer is a very complicated class in PvE (your really have to get good at positioning, dodging, and comboing quickly), but in PvP there are several button mashing specs that are possible and powerful.

Elementalists (and engineers I hear, but have no personal experience) have more skills available to them at all times then other classes. (now speaking only for elementalists from personal experience) Elementalists are incredible versatilie and are a very powerful class with limited concurrently available combination abilities, so they easily fall into pre-ordained key click combinations. If one can avoid a pre-determined routine, they shine as one of the most influential and arguably most power per survivability point class in the game.

Necros are just cool. They have a multitude of spec paths to take that all have merit. I am not fond of pet classes, so I play a “support/kick you butt when my form change abilities are off cooldown” build.

Guardian pushes your generic tank arctype.

Warriors…don’t really have much to say. I have never tried them, but there are tons of cookie cutter heavy armor dps warriors around, and you rarely see varied attack methods.

I have never tried a ranger, so sorry, can not help here.

Sword Dagger thief.

Go ahead. I dare you.

Try elementalist and mastering attunement dancing. It sounds like the challenge you’re looking for.

Hardest classes for sure would definately have to be Elementalist and Engineer.

This is simply because they have so many skills available to them and so many different ways to combo. Also because you have so many skills available to use it gives you multiple ways to deal with different situations. This also requires you to know how other classes play to be able to deal with them effectively. Sure knowing what other classes can do is going to be helpful on all classes but it always seemed more helpful on an ele and engi again simply because you have way more ways of dealing with situations.

Having said that they require you to press a lot more buttons to be effective as opposed to a thief who can just ram heartseeker and still do a reasonable amount of damage.

I would say Engi is the hardest.

But with any profession you can just say how much of a huge difference there is between a skilled and an average player when running the exact same build.

Ex Warden, Minstrel and Champ from Withywindle here and the only class that holds my attention is the Ele, would likely say Engineer if the Ele doesn’t meet your fancy.
