I know this is discussed partly but the need for it is increasing day by day. Yesterday i have looked for a plus one for my team and there was no one looking for parties or anything, it was nearly a ghost town at prime time for Europe. And sadly, most of the time we were the only party that was yelling for party to the map chat.

In gw1, even at its last times, HA districts were full of people looking for groups. I met bunch of people thanks to that and it was really fun making new friends by that.

I know we can encounter people from other servers during game, just hit go with 4 people to get +1 on the go. But this is a work-around, not a solution. Most +1 don’t want to cooperate, is temporary (have no intention of becoming friends), do not want to get on TS, etc.

I usually get to be friends with the person i pick up on the mists/HA to play later. To build a good friend list with good players. Now doing that is too limited. I met some people from other servers but it is just too painful.

The solution is to simply make heart of the mists a cross server zone, with selectable districts, just like in GW1. It should have been cross-regional as well, but i guess it seems unlikely/costly by the way the game is designed.

Please, I want feedback on this issue from the devs. Also please do not skip this problem with just saying “just go matchmaking as 4 to get +1 or you can meet people during matches”

sPvP is in downed mode right now and this can easily revive it quickly.

Yeah I remember tombs American districts can go 50 plus districts when we were iwaying.

But thing is that there could be a programmatic or even philosophical reasons why we have what we currently have.

I absolutely agree that a district system is needed!

I know the Anet dev’s have specifically said (based on Jonathan Sharp’s chat session a few weeks ago) they don’t want a district system because they want to promote community continuity within a server. This is actually counter-productive, and I strongly believe having a district system would in fact promote more continuity amongst PvPers.

A district system would help all dedicated PvPers (regardless of server) have places to congregate and collect. All the folks from the top teams would know to meet up in District 1 or 2 or what-not. promoting community. If you don’t get in District 1 because it’s full, you go to District 2 knowing that those people are also dedicted tPvPers. There would be an abundant and diverse pool of PvPers to draw upon when forming tournies because you can interface with all PvPers rather than just the small selection that happens to be in your server. It just makes sense.

Right now, there are four bad options for finding a PUG to fill out your team (or conversely, finding a team that needs a PUG):
1. SPAM Heart of Mists LFG in your own server. You are limited to only the PvPers in your server seeing this, which is what 5% of the total pool? I’ve even seen groups purposely go to different servers, so they can increase their pool when spamming LFG. That is absurd and counter-intuitive.
2. Use a third party LFG system – IRC #gw2ringer was created specifically for this as anyone across servers can obviously use this. I’ve snagged a couple folks and joined a couple groups using that IRC channel (some of whom are now guildies or on my friends list). Unfortunately, that channel is not well known and is fairly inactive.
3. Search your friends/guild list. This worked well in the first couple weeks, but there’s been a huge drop off of players on my friends list. I don’t know if this is indicative of general PvPers leaving, but this option has been tough going. This is also why a lot of PvPers are in 5-6 dedicated PvP guilds, so they can have a bigger pool to draw upon for groups (which is again not promoting community).
4. Just submit with an incomplete group and hope for the best. This is a crapshoot. Maybe you’ll get a good player, or maybe you’ll get a HB warrior who only knows one combo and never chats. Thankfully, the ability to change your class before the match starts make this bearable, as my group can just change classes to suit whatever the 5th guy wants to run.

The district option would absolutely be a better option from those 4 above. You get all the people that want to find a group or player in one spot, regardless of server. Over time, you’ll have regulars hanging out in specific districts, promoting community. People can find and hang out with well known players – allowing for informal or scheduled chat sessions. I would LOVE if we can get this implemented, and it is one of the biggest things I miss from GW1.

I get the community continuity within a server. I bet a.net wants something like anvil rock got the best pvpers and this is why they own at wvwvw as well. Or something like that. It’s a tribalistic approach which is good

Problem is, you’ll never have a server with “all the best pvpers.” I was on Anvil Rock for a while, their HoM lobby is just as dead as the rest.

I would prefer they add an actual LFT (Looking For Team) interface where you can post yourself as looking for team, or browse for people to join your team. Same end-goal, less lag.

The solution to this is just adding a global pvp chat where peeps can just post a message if they need a group. You don’t have to be in the same server to get partied anyway

districts are so much needed..

i play during the midweeks at horrible eu hours, at those hours the mists are pretty much a empty or afk ppl, with districts i can actually acces other servers to find a group to do a tourny.

with this its impossible atm….

I personally think keep it the way it is currently but add a chat system that allows for cross server communication while in the Heart of Mists (So Map chat that goes cross server). This reduces lag, allows people to talk cross server and form groups and gives people the option to leave Map chat if they don’t want to talk to other randoms.

It’s a sort of win win win situation.

It doesn’t seem like there are enough people for it to work with the mists split by server. I’m already getting really tired of solo queuing for tournaments and I can’t ever form any groups in my server. I miss HA district 1

It would be great if we could have a merged mists for spvp purposes. I get the sense of community thing that they trying to do, but I don’t think it is going to work out for heart of the mists. Alternatively I think a robust cross server lfg system could work out as well, and may even work out better (especially when server guesting comes). It would virtually eliminate chat spam (like the gw1 lfg system tried to do) and allow you to see if maybe there was a server that had a lot of good pvpers that you keep meeting from the lfg system, so maybe you keep guesting there to meet them, and then you decide you want to transfer. It could help maintain that whole server community thing they’ve been wanting. Possibly.

Yes, I think the return of the district system (in some form) would solve so many problems with the game. 1-2 months into the game, the amount of players we see in many areas is imo just not good enough usually. I would like to see districts brought not only to spvp, but to as many aspects of the game as possible (wvw probably out of the question).

Their decision to move to a ‘home-server’ system hasn’t seemed to create any community. It just makes you stuck with certain players. For experienced GW1 players, can you imagine how much sooner that game would have died if not for the district system? It is a frightening thought. Split the gw1 population 40 different ways, and thats basically what we have in gw2 (of course some more purchases here maybe). And this game needs other players more (no more heroes,henches, solo builds, etc).

Great game, terrible organization compared to guild wars 1. I used to brag to people in other games about how great the GW1 population was. Add districts (with ability to cross-region) and dead hours go away, population problems go away, players will keep playing because they will have more people to play with.

i beg to disagree. there are communities forming in home servers. ie stormbluffisle.com, isleofjanthir.com and there will be more. the district system will be just the overflow system.

I personally think that the heart of the mists should encompass 3 servers, that is the 3 servers currently paired in WvW (implement this AFTER they’ve stop the free xfers.)
It would give a larger pool of players for finding tourney teams, and boy would it spice up WvW play
