Hello all. I recently started GW2 about a month ago because I heard the PvP was legit and so far I would have to say that I agree. I love WvW the most for the large scale warfare but PvP is a close second. I am trying to pick a dedicated profession to level all the way but I am a bit torn between a few of them. After reading these changes, I am even more lost.

Can someone more experienced than me explain how the following builds are going to affected for WvW and PvP with these changes so that I can help make a better informed decision?

Favorite Profession Builds

1. Condition Mesmer
2. Staff Elementalist
3. Double Ranged Shatter Mesmer
4. Turret Engineer
5. Long Bow Ranger

I want to know how these changes will affect these particular builds, as I am not experienced enough to read the changes and interpret what they mean in game. I want to focus on leveling just one character for WvW and PvP dedication. I enjoy ranged damage and control, supporting / healing teamate, and escape /stealth capabilities. Looking for something that works well for my playstyle and fits in the meta or close to it.

Huge thank you to any who take the time to help a scrub like me out here!

Well I see 2 important things that make gw2 pvp compelling,

- For sPVP; There is no inherent imbalance, like in other mmos, where you always get supreme gear advantage over newer players (more dmg, more hp, more crit…) by farming a lot, or paying in p2w games.
- For WvW; Most classes can be viable on offense, support or condition side which means you can’t tell what your targets build is before engaging.

I don’t play engi or mesmer much so not too sure about those, but you can see all the official changes for all classes here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/June-23-Specialization-Changes

About ranger tho, LB overall is getting a good buff because the 1500 range and +100% projectile speed traits are now stock. Also the opening strike mechanic now has its dedicated trait called Remorseless that renew opening strike whenever you gain fury.
And the survival skill have a trait that gives fury and remove 2 conditions when you use it. And finally there’s Quick Draw (skirmishing) that reduce by 2/3 the cooldown of your first skill used after weapon swap.

from the builds/classes you listed the most viable would be double ranged shatter mesmers. the build is even getting very solid buffs in a week so there’s nothing wrong with picking that one. you will have your difficulties against thieves but other than that mesmer has quite good matchups, counters being heavy condis and thieves.
