Hey guys. Right so I started ranked over the weekend and I wanted to get to saphire before end of season. It was going super well and I was winning match’s pretty much 90% of the time. My MMR was pretty low, I guess.

I’m halfway through emerald and I’ve just hit a wall and I can’t get out of it. I’m the person who wants to talk tactics prematch. I’m explaining what everyone needs to do and to not falter. Very rarely people listen, even rarer they already know. But most of the time people want to run around and be in every fight.

Meanwhile I’m continually going to far, I’m taking and holding and scoring points for the team. I’m sometimes keep 2 of my opponents busy, sometimes 3. Keeping a lot of pressure on the enemy team to force them to deal with a point that is often, apply and forget. None of my team mates listen when I try to tell them to stay on points but I guess its more fun to run around and start fights in no man’s land. Meanwhile I’m say here, scoring points for my ‘team’ while none for myself.

Then we lose. And I lose a pip. Even in a game against people far better than us. I had 3 of my teammates listening. Wanting to do well for the team. We lost by 9 points but we got that far through superior tactics, sadly inferior skill. Still lost a pip.

It seems like I have to focus on my personal score to protect my pips and that any effort made to accumulate points for the team aren’t credited. I’m not a great PvPer. I dislike following the meta and disagree with the distribution of competitive builds. Builds should be secret and part of the challenge of PvP itself.

I don’t mind losing, I don’t mind dying. But I am bothered about my pips. I refuse to believe that I need a 5 win streak to get out of this tier, to meet the next 5 win streak. I refuse to believe my friend who is 2 tiers away from diamond has got that far from only winning.

So guys, what am I doing wrong? Should I focus on point capture at this level or is it pointless at this level? Should I just score as many points for myself and hope to get pips from losses? Or at least protect them.

Tl;Dr. Lose game. Lose pip. Win game. Win pip. How do I protect my pips in the losses.

At this point, just wait it out for next season or play bunker mesmer or celestial auramancer. They play themselves a good portion and allow you to go eat a sandwich while sitting on a point. Won’t last long for that much freelo though, so either do it now or cry because next season has lost 4 ammys.

As for play, I just boss my team around like a jerk (or did. haven’t played for a week except to adjust some builds for the upcoming 1/26 balance patch…which I hope gets pushed sooner…).

The thing I dislike about this game is that it does not reward your personal skill directly, and often it ignores your contributions completely. Even punishing you when
you did exceptionally well in a match, if your team mates screwed up.

Not much of a skill measure. And not much of a motivator.

You have to be your own reward. YOU decide how you did. Don’t leave it up to the game to tell you if you are good and performed well.

Going for legendary right now is not much different than sitting at a slot machine all day. All for a “legendary” backpack? Is it worth it?

Oh man…I remember stuck being in T5 of sapphire for almost 5 days – reached t5 on Monday and ascended to ruby on Saturday. 5 times I got to 4 pips only to lose the next match either against a premade or my team comprising of players who aren’t well aware of map mechanics and we simply got outplayed. Just hang on there, you still got 8 more days…

did it with a thief ( and started to play spvp only after xmas ).

Try ask people which mm puts with you ( good people or maybe someone who you think is good enough ) to make a duoq at least. It will be more easy ( and less frustrating ).

I was hoping to hit ruby before season 2 (I’m currently T3 Sapphire) but I only get to play a few evening a week – so i don’t think I’ll grind it out in time.

I actually found Emerald more frustrating than I currently find Sapphire in terms of advancement speed. I always seemed to get 4 pips, to then be placed on completely clueless teams the same as you’re finding.

Ultimately it’s a lottery, just be thankful that you can’t actually lose tiers in Emerald.

Like poster above me, started to pvp again during xmas (after long break) on vanilla dp (solo, since obviously nobody in their right mind wanted to play with me). Been in diamond for week now (not that i play much anymore since BnS is so much better and gw2 pvp just sucks). If i made it on non-elite thief, anyone can do it. Probably could have grinded to legend given enough time since leagues are just a grind if you are semi-decent.

Generally it is always the same: map rotation, defend points. Most of the loses come from bad map rotation, losing team fights, nobody ever defending what we have and feeding far and ironically spending too much time yelling at me for playing thief instead of actually playing the game….

I won a lot of games simply by perma decapping and rezzing teammates. I can also kill fairly well average DH, reapers and revs by myself. But i play thief, idk which class you play so this strategy might not work for you.

At the end, leagues don’t mean crap in this game atm. There were so much expoiting that legend/diamond is no better than amber in many cases. Just play the game for fun, rest comes by itself.

Almost every team game relies on overall team performance vs personal performance, unless you’re someone like messi/ronaldo/kobe. It hurts, I understand, but you’ll simply have to ignore pips and focus on improving until your current tier is braindead easy.

Emerald tier 2
Sapphire tier 5

were my sticking points of frustration.

Ruby was ok but again things slowed down alot around tier 5

Diamond has been pretty relax actually.

However, the WEEKENDS omg.

If every ANet’s MMR seems to go full demented its on the weekends where you get the most appalling match ups.

You can try a marauder dragonhunter, though meditrapper is much tougher to deal with overall people are trapped in emerald because they’re victims of MMR, don’t play often enough, or simply aren’t skilled enough to break out. The dragonhunter was made as the noob stick/bronzestomper class but once you get higher in sapphire the tactic becomes less successful.

Instead of relying on your own skill to succeed you rely on the opponents’ relative lack of skill. I spent most of emerald and sapphire as a druid or elementalist.

Practice on dummies so you can learn proper rotations, watch for tells, and practice your timing. The goal isn’t to burst them down as fast as possible (that’s easy) but instead watching their tells.

Honestly, I would have no problem helping you, but you would have to fight some legendary opponents. That is going to be the main issue with anyone helping you that is above you.

What class are you playing currently? Might I suggest playing Tempest or Reaper? If you can pick up the class in a day or two decently they’re both very forgiving, especially when you end up with teammates who refuse to listen when you’re trying to help them out.

I’d also suggest trying to befriend players you find to be at a similar skill level or better than you in the same division to try and queue as a group of two or three.

You can still solo carry a game, but that requires that your team is at least willing to listen. If not, it’s almost impossible to carry if your team is arguing and everywhere on the map chasing enemies.

if your teammates refuse to use good strategies, your only choice is to help them win with their bad ones. If what you’re doing doesn’t complement what your teammates are doing, even if it is part of a good strategy, you won’t win.

I am stuck at division 3. I don’t know why, every time I reach 24 pips, I start getting very bad matches and lose 10 in a row. It already happened lik 5×.

It means this- you are no longer carrying your teams stupid. Or it means you still don’t realize you aren’t that good. Pick, choose. I took being stuck in sapp 5 for a week as “well, I guess I suck with thief. riparoni” and then I hit ruby.

You can’t rely on how your teammates play, in order to win. Play your own game and do what you think has to be done to win a game. If theres anything many people hate, that is people trying to create some form of strategical play in soloQ.

Its stratecic play that wins…… I win against preamdes with random groups when they listen… But it usualy doesn´t work well without speech comunication, which is soloQ.

And then there’s the mindset “I’m too good for playing with others, you’re all scrubs, but nonetheless I’ll ruin your games the same cause I’m so selfcentered” – losers’ mindset in a team game.

Why did you start Ranked PvP? You wanted ranked PvP stress, now you have it. Next time read the forums before starting PvP ranked, to avoid distroying your own entertainment with stress.

i would like to help you, but if we team up we will go up against legendaries and i think will have even more hard time going up. wish i have another account to help u.
