Hi there,
I am a thief and i have big trouble killing Mesmers.
When they spawn their adds, even when i mark the original (which mark is lost after a while) i have no idea how to locate the player and kill him between his Illusions.
I will appreciate any help, because it seems really OP to me (when i was VS 2 mesmers, they wiped me and 2 other people !!!)
Thanks in advance!!!

I just pay attention to the mesmer’s movements. Very often the mesmer will do some movement that the AI never do. Also the AI tend to stay on an absolute offensive while the mesmer is usually standing in the back.
AFAIK marking is only lost if the target stealths (Thieves are far more annoying to lock than Mesmers are), and most Mesmers only use one stealth skill: Decoy, which is on a 32s CD. If you mark a Mesmer and it cannot stealth for whatever reason it is very easy to focus it.
Finding the real Mesmer amongst Clones is really not that difficult. Clones generally do not move, even Sword Clones stand around for a bit between attacks; so if it’s moving around it’s most likely the real one. Also, Clones pause between autoattacks, the real Mesmer usually does not. Other indicators include lack of off-hands on Clones, lack of personal Signet effects, and having lots of boons (Staff Mesmers tend to be like this).
For the Downed Clone, the Clone is the one that appears first; and the real Mesmer has a red skull arrow over its head. I’m surprised people still execute the wrong Mesmer.
Good Mesmers may pretend to be Clones by not moving and pacing their autoattacks after leaving stealth or teleporting, which may be a bit more difficult to distinguish; but few Mesmers stand still and none (that I’ve seen so far) pace their attacks to match Clone attack speeds.
as thief? a problem? oh…
just go stealth, wait and watch for real mesmer… if i dont mension obvious bugs like no offhand on clones, then illusions never move until you leave their attack range and they use only first skill… so just watch for movement and animations other then first skill and ofc if you will know what clones generating skills mesmer have, you will easily find the real one right after skill use
and mesmers attack faster then clones even if they use only first skill
PS: main nuke of mesmer is mind warck = shatter, other skills dont do that much dmg, so watch if his illusions are not all going right to you

There is a number of class/spec that can easly take the mesmer down in 1v1, if you wish to play thief, the dancing dagger spec does wonders against mesmers.
^ this… and even thief guild is hard to beat, they have much more hp then illusions, deal dmg as phantasm do and thief can be almost perma invis… gg
try to fight on the cap point so they are forced to stay near you and spam clusterbomb when you see clones. then switch to main weap and kill, or stay bow and go on harassing/killing.
Thieves’ Guild. Then stealth and let summons hit him, pop out to attack when he looks vulnerable, if he turns to attack you dodge and when you run out of those, restealth. GG.
When you first target them check under their name, if they have a title up the illusions won’t have it. Also the main mesmer tends to have a lot of boons running at any given time, signets are also another thing to look out for (if not used during combat). Otherwise just pay good attention to their movements.
If you’re a thief against a mesmer, timing is everything. When you see the real one, make sure his Phase Retreat/Blurred Frenzy is on recharge depending on the weaponset, because those two skills are really obvious ways to escape most of your combo on reflex. Because of their short recharge, I know I use them with abandon if a thief doesn’t feel threatening. Hit hard when the mesmer’s defenses aren’t up and then don’t give an inch. A startled player is very obvious to recognize.
If you don’t have two of the following: Your main combo recharged, Thieves’ Guild recharged, most of your health left, do not fight. Mesmers are relatively easy to escape, thieves are good at escaping and you can’t really accomplish anything by trying your luck.
