Hello Guys,

I’ve played WoW since vanilla and I mostly prefer PVP in this type of games. I’ve wanted to try something else and came to GW2 .. Started to play it and after few hours i bought the HoT expansion. Im currently leveling a thief but after reading a thief topics on this forum how not so well performing they are.. i am loosing the hope and will to continue.. therefore I have one question..

What would you guys recommend me to play and what is currently viable in current meta in PVP and why?

In the current meta, Revenant seems to be a kind of hybrid of Thief/Warrior – one that pretty much does everything better than either of those classes currently.

If you enjoy playing a high damage output class in PVP you might consider rolling Revenant. They’re not too difficult to learn the play basics of either.

Actually is a bad momento to start do sPvP, why there’s a balancement of classes that work only on high rank of spvp and warriors are actually really hard to use, the same for the thief class.

There’s some sites that can help you with builds and to identify what classes are current “meta” and what not.
The thief isn’t bad as they say, is only hard to use, really hard. It’s role is to steal the enemy base in the exact moment they leave it and kill or slowdown players that move from a point to another alone.
I can suggest you to try a build focused to the Dagger/Dagger, spamming the skill 3 all the time and dodges. With the Daredevil that build had started to be seen around the game even often and I tried it really hard to fight. is a simple spam of the skil 3, but it work and can also be used to new players. Simply use the Daredevil specializzation, dagger/dagger and focus on everything that make you evade attacks and recharge initiative. The enemy will find really hard to catch you.
Your damage will not be a burst and you’ll inflict more condition damage than direct damage, but it’s still a really good damage and a funny playstyle.

I can suggest you to try the Engineer (specializzation Scrapper) if you want a dps class. High damage, stun and defence.
Or a Revenant (specializzation Herald) if you want another dps build, but more focused on condition damage.
You can also try to use the Necromancer (specializzation Reaper) for a dps role but more focused on be a kitten corrupting the enemy boons into conditions (good in teamfights while focusing a enemy that spam boons to take him down quickly).

Actually the best class is the Elementalist (Tempest) with a hybrid build that can deal ans sustain high damage. Or also the mesmer (Chronomancer) that is the best bunker we actually have.
I don’t suggest you the Ranger (Druid) why actually is the Healer role and I don’t think that a player that started with a thief will change to a healer/supporter.

There’s also the Guardian (dragonhunter) that can deal a really high damage with Longbow and traps, but can become bad if the enemy team focus on ranged attacks.

There’s different sites where you can find all the builds you want. or try to look on the class forum for more advice.

I am looking for a damage dealer which is fun to play and not too complicated.. at least for now till i get into the mechanics of the game since the combat is completely different than in wow.. Are revenants also reliable in PVE? I am thinking between 2 classes.. Elemental and Revenant..

If you like thief just play thief, they’ll get buffed eventually and you’ll already have practiced the class by then.

Also since you’re a beginner you won’t really suffer the meta anyway.

Plus, you can always climb with any class, even if it’s currently bad, I only play warrior which is arguably even worse than thief right now, and I still do fine and have fun.

Revenants are highly relevant in both PvP and PvE.

Hello, I`m one of the few thiefs that actually don`t want to give up their class just cus the meta is dumpstering us. That said, in my opinion, you have 2 choices:

1. Play thief and master it (considering the current meta it is probably the hardest class to play in the game just because you literally cannot do anything in a 1v1 situation unless your oponent is below you in terms of skill – thus you need to either DECAP or +1 Fights)

2. Choose another class, as people have said there are alot of classes who are more user friendly and, 95% of the time do a better job than the thief can. Revenant is the star player of this list but you can also try a ranger(druid build) or an engineer (scrapper build). Other strong classes are auramancer – elementalist and chrono bunker – mesmer.
