Hey guys, kind of newish to pvp and was thinking of making a new character. Right now I’m debating between making a Rev or Guardian and I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on which they think is better? I have a couple of friends who play (casually) so I was also wondering if there was one that would be better for solo/team play or if there is a difference between them. I’m mostly inquiring about spvp but if anyone has thoughts on WvW feel free to share.

I’ve checked the forums and pretty much everything in the Rev forum is that they’re dead. Not sure if this is true or people justin qqing because they aren’t as OP anymore. I’m not really interested in doing Necro, thief, or scrapper because I’m usually not huge on playing the OP fotm class.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Unless you’re planning on going for high-level tournament play, ignore that. DH and Herald are both extremely powerful. And for all the “Rev is dead!” posts in the forums (they just received a meaty nerf), they are still extremely powerful (and popular).

You really can’t go wrong with either rev or DH, just depends on what play-style you prefer. Take them both in heart of the mists and give them a whirl.

DH is easier to get into if you are new. It has very high spike damage and puts on a lot of pressure in team fights. But you will lose to good bruiser specs 1v1 and may find it lacks disengage sometimes after you meet better opponents.

Herald is slightly harder to play but not too hard either. It is more versatile than DH. Good damage, good mobility, a lot of evades and block.

Herald is easy and the best class in the game right now. DH is easier at low skill but is 4th-6th best right now.
I’d go herald, it’ll be strong no matter how good your opponents are.

Is there one that is beefier then the other? I know they’re both heavy armor and the one is called guardian but that doesn’t really seem to matter much as far as tankiness. Right now it sounds like Herald would be a better choice and they seem kind of fun to play.

Herald can easily spec tankier but it can also easily spec for wayyyyyyyyyyyy more damage. Run something like devastation retribution herald and you ll have no problems living even with maurader amulet

Okay thanks guys! As of now it’s sounding like Herald is the way to go.

As a relatively new player to Rev and a long time guardian player I really struggled to learn it. I’m not overly fantastic on it even after 100 ranked matches on it, it’s definitely different and has a bit of a learning curve.

It’s definitely more versatile and stronger though. If you do play Rev, try out the Power Shiro build, it’s hella fun, fast paced and easier to learn then a condi Malyx/Shiro build IMO.

Do you (or anyone else) have a power build you would recommend? I tend to like power builds better then condi builds anyways so that works out well. Also, what are the main stats for a Rev?
