Necromancer/Casual Warrior
[Team] Best WvW guild of all time. EASILY.
This game isnt a competitive pvp game. Get over it. Either quit or accept it for what it is. A pve game.
My evidence? All the mechanics are based around pve. They cant nerf aoe. They cant nerf dodges. They cant nerf damage. Because this is all baked into the pve side of the game. The spammy nature of pvp cant be changed because it is an integral part of pve.
And that is the problem with all MMO’s. They are designed first and foremost to be pve games. So all the mechanics are suited to pve and dont translate well to pvp.
Another sign its a pve game is that people want “goals” and “progression” in their pvp. People who play proper competitive pvp games get this progression from competition. Anet are going to give you people new shinys to chase after…why? Because its not a proper pvp game.
So either accept the game as it is (a pve game with pvp side game) or quit. There is no point putting hours of time into a game which is flawed as a competitive game because it is designed fundamentally around pve.
…They could always just split skills between the 2, like they’ve done for a bunch of abilities/mechanics/etc so far…
But that would require effort, competence, passion for your product, and an understanding of your community. So we’re screwed.
…They could always just split skills between the 2, like they’ve done for a bunch of abilities/mechanics/etc so far…
Splitting skills would have to be so severe there would be no link between the two. No way they will do that because its a pve game. And in a pve game they want their pve players to be able to jump into the mists and not just have a completely different system where you cant dodge for ages and damage is worse and spam is reduced.
It is just impossible to do.
GW1 was competitive with decent PvE. I’m pretty darn sure they advertised it as the “next esport”. They’ve clearly given up.
Today it was so clear that they dont give a kitten about pvp. Anyone who watched the Q&A will understand what I’m trying to say.
Leave this sinking boat now that you can, because it’s clear the devs don’t have any idea of what’s going on in the heart of the mists and they don’t plan on spending more resources into it.
The current state of the game is bad, and the future of it is even worse. Today we saw the highest pvp event gw2 will ever have and it was a bad, one-sided, boring tournament. They spend 10k $ and they only got bad publicity, I doubt they ever repeat this.

Complete splitting is really what this game needs to have a proper balance.
Right now, every format (PvE, WvW, sPvP) has to compromise something.
Having things be differently in sPvP will keep it fresh too.

I thought that was why they made Spvp.
Structured PvP, completely seperate from the PvE side of the game so they could have an “esports”.

This guy speaks the truth.
Agree 100% with Lordrosicky. I accepted it a while back, and I actually now enjoy the PvE and the WvW.
GW2 PvP does not need to succeed as an E-Sport, it does not need to watchable, and it does not need to be balanced, and IMO it never will.
Sad but true.
There is no chance to spvp to be a great competitive pvp game without a really serious split between pve and www. And if anet splits completely these parts, anet should rework so many things, basically fused in the nature of this game, that the result would be really another game.
Too much effort, they push on pve and www and probably this is enough to mantain a large players base.
Personally, i moved on pve/www. Tpvp, without a serious rework, is dead for me.
I agree to an extent.
The game is more enjoyable if you don’t stress over it.
But this "Another sign its a pve game is that people want “goals” and “progression” in their pvp. People who play proper competitive pvp games get this progression from competition. " I agree’d with.
Honestly have never seen all this talk about goal and progression and incentive crap until GW2. Playing sports in school, Misc games, Strategy games, Fighting games, Shooters, a handful of MMO’s, A moba. In GW2 the PvP player needs carrot on a stick, there is probably an 8 year old child right now fighting his 10 year old friend or cousin from down the block in Tekken 5 or whatever number is out right now trying to be the best he can and win because he enjoys it not because he’s going to get a new skin out of it. Weird as hell. Been playing Smite since April, godpack there is nothing to get, if I want skins I can buy them, there is no incentive other than enjoying myself. Think the game is more popular in pvp as well so doubt carrot stick is really what pvp needs.
Took your advice, I quit. Thanks!
Dunno if troll. But I’ll bite.
Yes we can quit but the fact is for a lot of people the game was sold claiming it was striving towards a competitive esport, and a lot of things that are either in the realm of poor design towards said goal, or lack of attention to further that goal. So your argument towards it being a PvE centered game is invalid based on what the game was sold to many as. However it is true clearly where the most effort is going towards so your not totally wrong. But you can’t realistically tell people to stop complaining when not getting what was advertised.
The complaints are understandable a lot of players have the feeling of “we’ve been scammed” or “we’ve been lied to” in addition to “This is false advertisement”(ofc being a generalized feeling its not very vocal excluding a small few). For a game that claims to openly want feed back. People are going to complain in said feedback, and ask for it to be done properly, and telling others not to complain is unfair.
If I offered you a book of your favoret DC superhero and a lunch for 60$, then I turn around and gave you bad erotic Twilight fan fiction. You’d be mad, and even more so if I said “Don’t complain it’s about the lunch!”
Also GW1 had a lot of PvE/PvP splits and I still hear people calling it the best pvp game, with amazing PvE. So saying it hurts it is invalid.

They can easily nerf dodges.
Sigil of energy Becomes 20 second cooldown.
Vigor generation reduced 10%
They can easily nerf Damage.. and they have in the past.
If anything nerfing AOE might actually make PVE bearable.
Sad but true.

You would need such a huge split that pvp would be a different game. That is impossible judging from their interviews and things. I will keep an eye on the patches and maybe when the meta changes see if the game is fun. But I doubt any changes to numbers (small balance changes) are going to change how AI/spam dominated this game is.
Its a clusterkitten. Asuras existing in pvp are an example of why this is a pve game. Imagine in call of duty you could pick a little character who is really hard to see and so keeps killing you. It is fail to have such small characters in a twitch based game. Makes a mockery of the whole thing. Wont change because its a pve game.
Conquest is why its a fail plain and simple. Deathmatch style is what people watch and want to play more.

Have you played pvp? Most fights involve just clicking your buttons as tiny asuras run around the screen. Take any screenshot pretty much ever during gw2 pvp and you wont have a clue what is going on because it is impossible to tell. Even with the ai and effects you can hardly see the players. I doubt any of this would change regardless of the game modes. Although I do agree more game modes would of been cool. That ship has sailed though I am afraid.
Like others have said, it gets to a point where you dont care enough to be mad at this game….the forums are like the cooling down peroid as we stop playing the game :P Like getting over an unhealthy addiction.
Who remembers this game being advertised as a pvp mmo. That still kitten es me off to no end.
No chance to split pve/www/pvp skills

Game over
Who remembers this game being advertised as a pvp mmo. That still kitten es me off to no end.
Yeah that was an expensive lie. Could have bought 2-3 much better games on Steam for the same 60 bucks.
Now i just read forums because i like seeing GW2 crash and burn since i (and many others) saw all this horrible clutter braindead gameplay stuff happening a year ago, unfortunately after ANET already wiped their kitten with our sixty bucks.
@Lord, the problem is, who wanted an e-sport game? Not the community. We wanted an MMO half as good as GW1 is. We got nothing, not even a mere shadow. We want gamemdoes and fun and rewards, but that’s against their vision of e-sport.
Who can’t move on? Devs or community?
I see this game as both a just plain good PvP and PvE experience. I don’t see a slant.. I see an attempt to satisfy fans of both play styles and players of all demographics.
Unfortunately that means nothing is particularly great.
If you guys think GW2 is a great PvE game as far as solo play is concerned, I would agree with you but if you think the cooperative(team based) PvE is great.. you have completely missed the boat on a decade of excellent cooperative PvE focused mmorpgs—to the extent that that’s all they were ever good at.
But Pve is a much broader concept. It’s more difficult to appease the different appetites.
Pvp is pretty ‘simple’. You make a scalable infrastructure where you allow fun for all skill/participation levels and allow competitiveness.

This sums up everything. We were asking and begging to Anet to fix the salvaging pvp item’s problem for 10 months. And now i heard they’re going to fix it for green items for pve players. For What ? After the patch they will have to salvage 100-200 items? How about us Anet? Well why i even bother to write this right? They have been treating us like a foster child for a year, nothing will change ever…

Yeah I got to 200 or so in Tpvp just solo joining and with the new solo queue last I check I was 67th. I did it just for the lawls its a boring game mode, 5v5 10v10 deathmatch is much more complex and rewarding. I agree asura are annoying.
Oh and GW2 is not dying its doing great, conquest is dying people just dont like it. Many seen this coming ages ago, I do feel bad for all the people that put effort into conquest mode.
