Here's the big picture on the league
So its even bigger failure than we thought?
The big picture is they want to be an Esport without a proper matchmaking system in place. Like saying you want to be an olympic runner but you wanna keep sandals during races.

Pretty much.
Looking at successful e-sports with huge events and prize pools like DOTA2 and LoL, it’s accessible to both casuals, hardcore to pro level players.
Anet failed at creating a proper match system and terrible job at balancing classes and builds in sPvP, which end up cater only to the more highly skilled players and left the rest in a bad spot.
You want your sports events to be popular, you need to attract a crowd of enthusiasts and fans regardless of their skill levels. Currently they dont not care for the casuals, AT ALL.

This isn’t really a PvE-like event to earn a Legendary item.
I still think that the Legendary is supposed to draw in PvE players and lower queue times.
1st of all making threads over threads on the forums with the same ppl , wont do anything
2nd We had Soloque for a year and the toxicity/elitism (or the lack of your teams8s to to change class or obey you) /no teams where creates dispite the simpleton opinion of the community that insist that top players will feel a bond a and vreate teams ….. show it was soooooo wrong ….
Even then you cant control the actions of your random team8s and you are NOT DESERVE to be in the top player list .
3rd They dont think about the casual gamers ?
Excuse moi ?
Have they limited they rewards (Backpiece) only to the top 500 teams ?
If you want the L33T ICON next to your character , try to meet some ppl , like you have to meet ppl to unlock the Legendary from Raids

I agree, but that doesn’t seem to be the main thrust. They want to attract already-competent eSports players from other games. It’s faster.
I really don’t know what the higher ups at arenanet are thinking. This game will never be a esport, it is too messy to spectate, there is no balance at all, and they are ignoring the more casual pvp players which is beyond stupid.
If they care about getting views on twitch then they need take a look at wow, the game is not a esport, is not trying to be one but is constantly at the top 20 most viewed games.
The few players that get in to the game because they saw a tournament or whatever quickly leave since it is an imbalanced clusterkitten that rejects non ‘pro’ players.
But by all means throw more money at ‘esports’ and continue to ignore the lack of balance between classes and elite specializations, the broken and exploitable machmaking (abused by the pro teams no less), the bugs (still get stuck in an invisible dh longbow ward), ect. And whatever you do never ever communicate with the community, since this seams to be working wonders for you.

The issue here is that e-sports it’s kinda forced; developers don’t make e-sports, the community does.
This isn’t primarily a PvE-like event to earn a Legendary item.
Read this and understand what ArenaNet is doing, and what is actually important to them:
“Fowler believes that these initial prize pools will entice pro gamers in other games to compete in Guild Wars 2’s eSports.”
So this is not primarily about the casual gamer at all. They are trying to attract TEAMS, from other eSports games.
This is why they are not likely to create a SoloQ.
There are plenty of better e-sports games with big prize pools. They should be worried about keeping the modest base of pvp players they have although I guess its so modest they don’t care about alienating them so instead they are trying a 1 in 1000 long shot that could pay off big if they got really lucky.
They have 3 million registered users now. The vast majority must be PvE, because they sure aren’t Qing up in the Mists.

Just let them burn themselves.
There are so many examples of successful eSports around: mainly MOBAs, for MMOs should NOT be primarily about eSports. Anyway, it’s surprising how badly they are pulling this off. What kind of people are they striving to entice? FPS players? LoL players (like they will ever play anything else with how much money they already get)? I don’t understand, and I believe even the professionals they are trying to “entice” do not understand either.
Why would pro gamers from other games care about a legendary backpack in GW2?
GW2 doesn’t have the skill-class balance necessary to be an eSport. Every skill should be useful, we should have build variety, and balancing needs to happen frequently (like every few days, not every 4 months.)
You can’t hide the best current builds behind a paywall. That’s precisely what has happened though. There are very few core builds that can compete with the elite specs that are part of the current balance.
Elite specs are only usable by purchasing HoT. New teams from big e-sports franchises like DOTA and SMITE and LoL won’t buy HoT out of the gate to try PvP out in GW2. If they do come over, they will try it as a free player, see that nothing they are using is current and go back to the games they have already sunk thousands of hours into.
ArenaNet has the whole thing backwards.
“Corpening says ‘Unlike most other online games, there is no grind for gear and stats… When you log into PvP you have max stats and everything you need to be competitive right away.’ "
AHAHAHAHAAAAAA…. So that is why I just spent 5 gold on a Superior Rune of Durability, cause there is no grind for gear….go home Corpening your drunk.
Why would pro gamers from other games care about a legendary backpack in GW2?
Well, that’s true. I suppose it is to turn a talented PvE player into an eSports PvP playerr once they have tried it.
The issue here is that e-sports it’s kinda forced; developers don’t make e-sports, the community does.
But by that logic, I cannot be a wizard! It doesn’t matter what my peers or anyone else thinks, as long as I can think I can cast magic spells, I am a wizard
I’m a wizard! Weeeeeeee!

I hope Corpening isn’t part of the PvP group because he is clueless. Maybe he hasn’t seen all the amulets and runes that need gold to unlock them. Where does a PvP person get gold? Either grind PvE or grind PvP at a disadvantage.

Yeah I don’t think pro gamers care about backpacks I think they care about money.

I was thinking the same thing. lol.
That’s actually a bad for PR because if players from other game found this not to be true, they won’t even bother playing GW2 and they will definitely tell their friends and their fans about this. Time for damage control.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.

They wont need to as long as executives at Anet are as brain dead as they are. They cant react to something not working. They just watch it burn.

You can’t match what isn’t there waiting in the queue.
