Howdy all,

First of all, I’m not that avid PvP player. I do my daily PvP from time to time, but that’s about it.. I’m more active in WvW, for that matter (meaning that I do know how to duel, but I’m not that good in understanding the PvP maps yet).

Nevertheless, earlier this week I saw the daily “Solo Arena Wins”, so I joined the queue. The first four solo matches were won easily, but every single time when the scoreboard appeared and people saw my rank, I would get some nice insults thrown at me, with the friendliest being “Please don’t queue anymore, noob”.

Yeah, I’m rank 17, and the others (from both my team and the other team) were all rank 30+. But if the queue puts me with my r17 into the same team with r30, doesn’t that mean that somehow I manage nicely in PvP in the Solo queue?

So, why oh why do high ranked PvP players (I’m sure not all of them are like that, but unfortunately 95% of the ones I encountered were) find themselves so uber-elite and enjoy flaming low ranked? Did they buy the game and were r30 from the start?
Also, is it perhaps not done to join the solo queue when you’re low rank?

Nevertheless, some new additions to my block list were added, and don’t you even think that I’ll stop queueing..

Don’t stop Queueing and don’t let them make you think if you run build X you are bad. It’s solo Q so experiment with builds and find what works best for you.

When I started I took the hostility as part of the learning curve. Yeah, it sucks when you get bashed on constantly and people blame you specifically for losses, but as long as you understand how the MMR system works you’re usually not single-handedly responsible for the loss.

And honestly, you’re not really playing with the best. I don’t know much about EU top players but at least over here in NA I haven’t seen a single top player legit complain about they’re r17. We may not like having one but to go out of our way and blame a r17 for the loss or to tell him to stop Queueing is not worth the time or the effort. Both teams will have good and bad players and the truly skilled players tend to just accept that fact and move on with life.

Keep Queue’ing, improve, and don’t become the players you currently hate.

Imagine your playing this game for year and you get put in same team with some newbie, who dont know what to do?
You can join soloq at rank 1 all i care, but if your not sure about your build or ability to play then your a**hat for joining and pulling down other 4 players.
Even in my rank 20+ i didnt join soloq, cause wasnt sure about myself. If you play really good at rank 10 then people will notice and wont flame for low rank.

The only really bad players are the ones who don’t use teamwork or constantly zerg one spot over and over. If you’re not one of them you’re probably ok

Was it your rank/…or were you using hammer/longbow warrior? That combo right there is pretty much the most hated build currently. The only ppl who like are those who play it.

Most of the time low rank(glory rank) are better than higher ranked. I am still in 40-50 percent. At least there it is the case. Because otherwise all those 40-50 would be higher in leaderboard ranking. Then often they are the ones complaining and also doing stuff like afk because “others are noobs”.

For experiment is hot join.
For solo q run meta builds and respect your team members with serious stuff, since they want to win instead to lose because some guy is testing.

You have the mists for testing along npcs.

Well, I am running a ranger in PvP (but no spirit ranger cheese, hateful that is) with LB/GS, Knights Trinket with Berserker Jewel.
And most of the time I spend on (most of the) PvP maps I’m capturing home, going to middle to assist, defending home, … I’m quite mobile with a Signet of the Hunt and a GS at my disposal..

I’d never enter Solo Q if I am testing a build, trust me.. The build I’m running in PvP is almost entirely the same as in PvE/WvW, and I know it works nicely there..

Who actually tossed those flames in?
Because if you’ve won those few matches, I see little reason why your team mates would flame you, and opp flames are always amusing to read in such cases.

What she/he said, nobody would flame you if you did good, i don’t flame anyone even tho i am rank 38 unless i personally see them fail horribly in battle, and my flame usually is " please go play more hot join to practice your build".

You know, I’ve found the ranking system to be very much akin to real life.

The lower ranks are like the enthusiastic children! They jump right in and swing swords and spells everywhere with no clue what they’re doing, but they’re brave and enthusiastic just like a child wide eyed with hope looking forward to what Santa will bring!

Then they grow a little and hit rank 20. These are the primary school children just before they head of to secondary school. A little more grown up than the lower ranks, but haven’t quite got the jaded attitude that comes with teenage hormones. Still enthusiastic, but aware of the dangers of crossing the road without a high way code…

Then we hit rank 30, and we’ve got the young grumpy teenagers that think the world is against them. Everything they do is right, because they know best, and they’re so much more experienced than their younger counter parts. Why won’t the world recognize them, they have so many unique ideas, and are going places, they’re going to be somebody one day…

Then the 40’s, the older teenagers that laugh at the younger ones because how can a rank 30 have life experience when they’re not rank 40’s. One day the rank 30’s will grow up and be mature young adults, like they are, and of course they have no problem voicing that opinion either.

And then you have the rank 50’s – adults now, slightly more mature trying to help the younger ones out. Rolling their eyes at the mistakes made, and becoming slightly annoyed, but they hold it to themselves generally unless someone really makes them mad.

And then the rank 60+ – They keep themselves to themselves and let the youth fall out, one day they’ll grow up, one day…

PvP is always a bit of a hotbed for hostility – I sometimes get incredibly frustrated by it myself but that’s when I log off. You are, unfortunately, always going to encounter this.

When I first started PvP (which was about 2 months ago, maybe more). I’d always avoided it because of not knowing how it works until I played with a guildie. They talked me through it but I quickly realised it’s very much like any other PvP – once you get a basic understanding of the tactics, you will be an asset. Learning class mechanics etc. will always take time.

What drives me crazy is when you try to help other people and they just flat out ignore it. Just because you are not fighting someone, doesn’t mean you aren’t contributing… deterring them from a node is often important! Fighting them in the middle of nowehere (generally) isn’t.

I’m nowhere near a pro of course, and don’t claim to be, however I had to shrug off an amusing comment the other day when someone said, “anyone below rank 40 should just log off”. The team composition was 20-35 with the individual making the comment being rank 42.

I try to stick with a few people that make PvP fun for me… if you find them, hold onto them!

Unfortunately I see a lot of times, that especially lower ranked players (10-20) are ignoring anything written in the teamchat.

Whether it’s SoloQ and you’re trying to coordinate the team a bit, or in TeamQ after you joined with a group of 2 or 3.
It happened so often that someone else walks on close, even if I told everyone I was going there. Or you ask them to run a close-mid-tactic, but two of them decide to invade far instead without saying a word, keeping it neutral against one defender while the rest of the team is going to hell.

That are a few examples why I can understand that it really grinds people’s gears. Some will flame, some will be more of a grown up and won’t flame, but it is disencouraging and takes the fun out of the game if some players are just ignoring everything and behave like they’d be in a solo game.

But whether or not, flaming and insulting players just because of their rank or even their bad gameplay is not an option and unacceptable. I just wanted to make clear why some “higher” players behave that way. It’s often because they’re just frustrated because the thing’s i described just happen way too often.

So long…

That I can totally understand, but as mentioned: I don’t think my gameplay was bad. I held my point, killed in 95% of the time the players trying to take it from me, and I reacted on teamchat and map pings..
Also, our team won, so I don’t see why they (teammembers and opponents) would feel the need to bash that low ranked player who, as far as he could tell, did a good job during the match..

Oh well, I’m sure there is still a lot to learn for me, but if they won’t let me learn (“don’t queue anymore, noob”), how will I ever?

Of course there are also a lot of good players in their 20s – as well as there are a load of 12-year-olds who feel strong on the internet because they have a number that’s higher than another’s number – just keep going in the Q, maybe find some people to play with in the heart of mists.

When I was around R20-R30 I’ve played a lot of teamQ with some higher ranked and more experienced folks. That helped me a lot considering tactical teamplay and talking in teamspeak as well. If you have a team, use teamspeak. It’s one of the most important thing to update your team about what’s going on and what you’re doing.

In the end pro players dont really need a voice chat when they know exactly whats happening, happened, and whats gonna happen after certain phenomena.

Quite – what more can you do? If I’m teamed with someone that does the above (reacts in team chat, pings etc.) but they just aren’t good at PvP – which could be for very legitimate reasons – then getting mad isn’t going to help. Furthermore, as mentioned in my earlier post, I’m still learning too so balance what I think I should do vs what people are telling me to do.

Get back in those queues Tribio and stick at it! I feel that we are very much similar in our approach. Unless you are on the other team, in which case, give me your node you noob, l2p and lol at your rank and build … just kidding
