I don’t think making unlocking new Mist Champions exclusive to people that own Heart of Thornes is a good idea. Its essentially making the game pay to win, or pay to have fun, since f2p players can’t access them at all. Making a gemstore purchase for them would help change it since you can buy gems with gold or money (like heroes in League of Legends). It just seems like a logical desicion to not lock competive content away from people if you want the game to be competitive, but have a way to make money off of them.

PS: I did prepurchase HoT, I however have friends that have not and during the Stronghold beta this turned them off of buying it.

Pretty much like elite specs, you dont have them until you buy the xpac. I dont get why these cahmpions are locked, makes no sense to me, but in some way if we change this we should also change how we unlock elite specs, no? ^^

You cant, you can upgrade the xpac edition, but not buy the core xpac

For those who are playing the game for free, you’re playing the Core game. The fact you’re playing the game for free should be way more than enough. If you want to play HoT content and features you should pony up the cash or deal with the base game.

Sorry your friends got turned off because they couldn’t chose a hero… but it’s a slippery slope. Next free players are going to be jumping up and down demanding to use elite specs because it turns them off from the game. Then, they will jump up and down demanding gliding, then other masteries. At what point does Anet say “hey you’re playing the base game for FREE if you want to play HoT pay to play HoT or deal with the base game”

Everything in videogames is p2w if you wanted to be realistic. Someone with dual 980ti’s and gigabit fiber and a 4k monitor is going to be at an advantage over someone playing on a 13" laptop with integrated graphics and 1.5mbps dsl.

Just another i want everything for free thread? Seriously why should p4f players get all the unlocks that come with a NEW expansion, it just doesnt make sense, and no mmo in history has ever done it, so why would anet? If you want the new expansion features, pay for them, its like expecting microsoft or sony to upgrade your console for free everytime they make an updated one, stop being a scrub!

The one with the 13’ laptop has an advantage in PvP XD have you ever tried to stomp someone who’s lagging so bad that they appear to port every couple of seconds.

When players will realise that Anet never intended for you to acess everything for free? They let you play for free the base game just for you to see if you really like it or not than buy it, not stay free forever. Guild Wars 2 still is a b2p game

This. GW2 is a B2P game and always has been. They just made the barrier to entry smaller by giving away the core game for free and only charging for the expansion. This is a core game that many of us have played for 3000+ hours and bought to play. The core game took Anet nearly a decade to develop and tweak up until this point. It is extremely generous of them to offer it to new players for free. If people like it, then they can buy the expansion. If not, they have plenty of content to keep them busy for years.

To add to what Kharr said…those that buy HoT get he perks of it, including those champions. You want the perks? Buy the game and help pay for future content!

F2p only exist as an appetizer it seems you friends did not like the appetizer.

Life goes on. Arena net is a corporation not a charity. I paid 50 bucks for this expansion and I expect others to pay a similar amount.
