Hotjoin is the True Endgame of PvP in GW2
i think the endgame is signing up for prized tourneys and establishing your (guild) rep. then you get your $$$, TV coverage and groupies. I heard it might enlarge your kitten.

I think you looking at pvp with pve lenses. The major aspect of PvP isn’t about farming glory and ranking up, it’s about being the best of the best. And you can’t earn that kind of respect with hotjoins.

Rewards for tpvp are not good enough for sure. Really in general the rewards for hotjoin suck too because the rank gear isn’t good looking and doesn’t get good looking until like level 40. Really the Orrian Armor I have that I got in paids is probably the best looking armor I’ll ever wear because the cultural armor is what like rank 70 lol.
Am I missing something here?
Yes. You’re missing the fact that no one gives a flying kitten about rewards in PvP.

I want more fluff in the chests. Everlastings, mini’s (Ghostly hero mini pls :p), etc. Drop chance may be uber low, It would make opening those chests a little bit more worthwile.
And gems should be rewarded either in team queu or in the AT’s.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!

Without rewards, why would anyone play? And how else would you determine what is the “end game”?
You may say that people play “just for fun”, but that’s not true. Take away any and all rewards including drops, armor etc from an MMO and see what happens.

It’s pvp though. Not PvE. If you took away those rewards in PvE, yes, all hell would break loose. But if irc, pvp games don’t revolve on rewards that much. They are just a nice addition.
Edit: the only significant reward should be increasing your MMR or rating on leaderboards. Now arguging whether the leaderboards is good or not atm is a diff story.

People will play to improve, to test their skill or to have fun. This is not PvE, so rewards are not needed. What are the rewards for winning a Dota game? What are the rewards for winning a Counter Strike game? Right, there is none.
Players who materialize PvP in any game, are either playing the wrong game, or playing the game wrong.

Lots of people here agree that PvP in GW1 was far superior to what we have here. And we had plenty of rewards. Chests for consecutive wins that had the possibility to drop awesome stuff, Zaishen keys using which you could open the zaishen chest for even more cool gear, a whole bunch of accomplishments and bragging rights.
“Fun” is nice, sure. But rewards are better.

Agreed GW1 PvP format is much more competitive.
Do not agree it was about the minor rewards. The majority of competitive PvP GW1 players used PvP only toons so the rewards were moot after full skill unlock.
Bragging rights are earned from community recognition, be it GvG, HoH, RA.

Yeah and when competitive dedicated gw1pvp player will decide to play some pve, he will simply sell his keyz and Hoh chest loot, buy some fancy pve stuff and that will be his reward for dedication and time spent. And in gwII… nothing much to say
INB4 wth are u talkin bout theres a chance to get abyssal dye!
but my question is.. why not give loot out for playing well… really no rewards.. what would it hurt to reward gameplay. especially since most of the loot would have no effect on the pve side of the game.. put long hard acheivments to grind to get something cool.
it cant hurt and could only help imo.
endgame is a boring and antiquated concept
There is no “end-game” content in GW2.
Or you can think of it as everything is end-game. New players can immediately jump into sPVP/tPVP, its just another addition or aspect of the game.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
Judging by most people I’ve met in GW2 the end game is to make a female toon and try and get it’s jubblies to show and wobble about when you move.

How can I reach endgame as a female asura?
I think you have to substitute jubblies with ears. Imagine if you were a Charr. They get to purr and lick their own butts. Or that was what I expected when I rolled one, how disappointed was I !!!!

Haha, really though: structured PvP is the best way to play the game in PvP, everything else is just “for quick fun” or for testing out stuff. I really don’t give a flying fart about where I get more Glory or stuff like that…. -.-°

Not to be disrespectfull but thats just your opinion and no more valid then his opinion. There are many many people that want more rewards for pvp at least as many that just play to be the best of the best. Ok I have very limited time to play this game I know I will never be the best of the best. I don’t always have time to coordinate groups and I solo queue way too oftent to climb the ladder much. I would like more rewards for the success I do have. Any way you slice it imo the rewards for spvp and tpvp are sadly lacking.
I have 350,000 glory and nothing to do with it, so honestly I could care less. The point of pvp is to have fun with the competition and improving and enjoying playing with your team. You clearly just don’t get it.

I am not putting down his opinion. I am making a claim that his post does nothing constructive. What rewards do you want? How would the system work? I mean, you can’t just say you want something and not give reasons why. I could just keep on throwing my opinion back at him or you for that matter—rewards are good enough in pvp, which are the skins you get from winning. But if you disagree, then I won’t stop you. Make a good post with details on what you mean. Saying other games have it (have what specifically?) and that gw1 had a much better system (I never played gw1 and this is a gw2 forum so you need to specify) is very ambiguous. I am not against better rewards, I just don’t know what possible rewards we could possibly get PvP related that would be much better than the system now. I guess gems could work but then people would farm tpvp for it which is probably something Anet doesn’t want.

The end game to me is the activity that brings me the most enjoyment out of time spent in game. For me, it is tPvP with the occasional side of WvWvW.
I am of the mind that if you spend your time on experiences (doing something fun) as opposed to spending it earning imaginary material possessions (glory, items, gold, etc.) you will have more to take away. In the end, when you finally move on, the fun, experiences, relationships, etc. have a much greater potential to continue to reward you long term.
Great thing is that there are options for different players to find their own end game.

until someone drops a dragon finisher on you, there is no end game.
have you earned all your titles?
does your bank have all the collectables?
maxed out your rank?
those are the “end game” of pvp.
but, like all competitive sports, there is no “end game” because personal improvement and achievement is a never ending story.
edit: lulz, apparently the words “filled” put next to “your” put next to “bank” is filtered on the forums:
filled your bank with all the collectables?
edit 2: apparently I am a liar, but when i first put this post up that exact line above got edited to say, in all caps, that I am a gold farmer and that you need to report and delete my post immediately.

You try to argument against the reward-system but actually negate it with saying CoD and Halo are not MMORPG. So your post is not making sense in any way.
Furthermore comparing FPS-Games with MMORPG’s is just… wow, I have no words for this. These are two different worlds.
Basically every Game in PvP needs prestige/achivements/rewards to succeed. Even in FPS games you had some sort of ladder/statistics. This actually is the life of human being. Or you work for free? Don’t think so.

I’m going to ignore the obvious bias and explain what i was saying…
I wasn’t comparing MMORPGs to FPS I was making a point about PvP (Player vs Player) and yes PvP does need prestige and you get that prestige with your own individual skill (which is universal, regardless of format) THAT is your reward you don’t need a shiny to prove your better than everyone else, skill speaks for itself.

Without observe/twitch, any titles etc. noone would even know the best player from the game. Just because he is not enough promoted for his skills. In FPS you have your statics/ratios speaking, but in mmorpg you need something that other ppl can see.
Just get 100-200 points each tournament match + the 100 reward average from the chest you will have 300. But not possible since you have to play for win there which means you are not getting 100-200 every time.
And then the reward from chest is not counting to the titel and account medal(other bug somewhere mentioned and not fixed yet). I’m 25 and still deer at account medal.
So hotjoin is better if you care about rewards.
But personally I don’t care about rewards because I’m one of the few players that play for fun mainly. In PvE rewards are fun but in PvP the competition itself is fun and winning. That’s why WvW is boring and needs rewards… cause there is no “winning”. You just win at the end of the week when you are not even online and played only a small amount of the whole “match”.
PvP you play the whole match since it’s only max 15 minutes and a win itself feels nice. Needs no other rewards.
Of course there are people that need rewards… like teh 14 yo children that need such stuff to say to their friends "look i have the “uber mega killer pwner title”. Ha ha but I don’t belong to that mentally kitten 14 yo without brain. I play for fun…
but problem: It is not that much fun… hotjoin(and Custom Arenas since they are like hotjoin) is boring. This only leaves me tournaments. But there I don’t like 50 percent of the maps and always need to wait if a kittenty map is in rotation since they haven’t got this fixed yet to make at least random map or even better different queues for different maps so you could chose your map. Foefire at the moment… I love it to lose 90 percent of the matches on this crappy worst map ever made.
And taking out Spirit Watch for no reason… they could just have left it and people that did not like it could have waited a few days… like I have to wait a few days until Foefire is out and next map is playing.
you get that prestige with your own individual skill
And how does a person who passes by you know that you’re such an awesome player? The point is to show off. You can’t fight everyone on the planet and let them figure it out for themselves.
Just get 100-200 points each tournament match + the 100 reward average from the chest you will have 300. But not possible since you have to play for win there which means you are not getting 100-200 every time.

Ah so the people who like rewards are 14 year old children. Thats why discussions like these are maddening the people with your point of you talk down to and patronize people who disagree with you and want more rewards. The whole idea of MMORPGs is based on rewards. Come on man no need to call people children who disagree with you lol. I am a grown man with a full time job and family. You are the one arguing like a 14 year old. I am all about winning btw I want the rewards tied to winning. I would be happy with more skins, more titles, maybe a small ammount of silver for winning a match and maybe eventually some special tournament events with gem rewards. Its not really a whole lot and I don’t know why some people seem to have a stick up there butts in opposition when its brought up.
(edited by Kwll.1468)
How does one determine what the “end game” is? That activity which brings you the maximum rewards. In GW2 PvE, endgame was the Domain of Anguish, or the Fissure of Woe and stuff like that because the rewards were truly phenomenal.
I’ve played my share of tPvP, but after hundreds of wins and a whole bunch of tournaments tokens I realize that this is not the true endgame. The true endgame is hotjoin where I can get max glory and rank points.
Thanks to the matchmaking system of tPvP, you always have a 50% chance of winning the same 200 glory boost at the end. So on an average you net just 100 glory bonus per match, which is…pretty pathetic I’m sure you’ll agree.
In hotjoin on the other hand, I can consistently get 200+ per match and often pass 300. It seems to me that hotjoin is the true endgame of GW2 PvP.
Which is why I find it so absurd that there are some people who think that it’s all about tPvP. In my opinion, all builds, strategies etc should only revolve around hotjoin since it’s the real end game and nets you the most rewards.
Am I missing something here?
Yes I agree with you, although I think they put a glory cap on hotjoins at 400 because I got 415 glory a match but only gave me 400 (no glory booster either). Pretty much after 100 tpvp games you already have all the gear from the chests, although I think the chest drops gear from your rank as well. But it is faster to get glory via hotjoins because its an instant match, zero waiting and all you do is join the same team as the high ranked farming glory people join and follow zerg around. You’ll recognize it when you see several people with up to 300 glory on a team even if they lost, and they are constantly on the same team.
Also another thing tournament rewards don’t get counted to your pvp titles, so its even more incentive to do hotjoins rather than tournaments.
In tpvp if you care about leaderboard rank, just get to a spot that you like and don’t play anymore because you’ll be that leaderboard rank forever just like other people.
If the game’s not fun enough with the current set of cosmetics, it won’t become fun enough with a bigger set of cosmetics.
A good cosmetic reward system can be nice and add a bit to the experience, but apart from that, either the game is fun or it’s not.

Word.
Ah so the people who like rewards are 14 year old children.
Yes, if they only play for rewards. It’s okay to play “for fun” and be happy if there are additional rewards. But some people are really playing only if you give them some reward. As mentioned: PvE it’s necessary cause there is no much other fun. But PvP playing against others already is fun. I mean there are people doing sports only for fun and people watching TV without getting paid or getting rewards. Same is possible with games. Why should it not be possible with games?
I am all about winning btw I want the rewards tied to winning. We already have the glory. Is enough for now. They should try to fix all the tons of bugs first(tournament reward chest bug and bug with tournament reward points not counting towards the title and account medal). Make more maps or bring at least back Spirit Watch into rotation and make a random map rotation or different queues(so we can chose the map).
That’s absolutely necessary first cause the game is not even fun at the moment… even if you make tons of rewards it won’t help if they don’t fix that stuff first. Rewards should be lowest priority on their list. Of course I’m not against them. I don’t need them but I’m not against rewards if they put them on low priority and bring them after fixing the important stuff.
But that important stuff should be first… and they are slow… rewards might something we can talk about in 1-2 years if they are taking that much time to fix stuff already reported months ago.
Isn’t the end game of PVP when you see people on the other team quit the tournament as soon as they see your name?
Notoriety is end game pvp.
my game ends every time I log out.

Stop looking for reasons to play more and enjoy the game for whakitten does well : great combat.
The reward?
In pvp, you need no other reward than the sweet teste of your enemies’ tears.
That’s why you play tpvp.
because he doesn’t know it himself
the reward is no reward.. so you can go outside and not worry if you are falling behind in the grind for the grand prize. the point is that this isnt wow so you have no endless grind that gets extended every patch just so you have an excuse to not do real life things.
play until the fun wears off then do something else. you cant hide here forever.. after a while you will need to go outside. or go to wow and grind the best gear for the month and stand in stormwind/org and hope someone notices you.
A good cosmetic reward system can be nice and add a bit to the experience, but apart from that, either the game is fun or it’s not.
I would love cosmetic rewards. First i would put on some rouge on the cheeks to my way to pale ele also some eyeliner to make him irresistible to female norns.
First of all for an MMORPG’s pvp to be successful there needs to be a reward to strive for. Gear and a rating system is the obvious way of satisfying this. There has to be leader boards to track the best teams and players. There has to be entry lvl pvp then it needs to progress into endgame such as Arena and Rated Battlegrounds and other PVP scenarios that give rating to a player for wining in them. And in GW2 case they have to be able to take the rewards earned in PVP and bring them into the Open world where everyone can see your superiority.
For entry LVL PvP there are BGs such as the SPVP that anet have in this game. Face it people, they are just regular BGs, that’s all. In entry LVL BGs you should farm Honor or what ever the PVP currency there is to get PVP gear. This will give the appropriate time necessary for the player to learn how to play their class properly. Once fully geared in PVP gear the player knows how the class works and understands the mechanics and is ready for Rated, competitive play.
Now before you start flaming keep reading this is all logical based off of successful MMOs that been introduced in the past.
Once the player has all of the BG gear now they move on to competitive play. There they are able to obtain greater gear depending on their personal rating. a 1800 rated player will have better and stronger gear then a 1000 rated player. High ratings such as 2200 would get rewarded with elite gear the, top of the line best PVP gear in the game.
Now before you say to me “you just want there to be a gear difference because you have no skill and need the help from the gear to kill someone” that is a ludicrous argument.
First of all how do you think someone will acquired such gear in the first place. A skilled player will get the best gear in the game because they are simply skilled and are better then other players. Bad players will never get this gear because they are simply bad.
Bad players, casual players want everyone to have equal gear so that they stand somewhat of a chance or give a false illusion of having a chance. This socialist mentality is for people who just suck at games. You will die anyway, why make your death last longer just die already! That is what the gear difference does good/ skilled players will dominate the noobs and then noobs will have no other option but to get better, and if they cant, well so what, you are just a noob.
The endgame and logical consequence for any serious Pvp Player, who is looking for a Challange and Competition under like-minded people is to return GW1.
Several dissapointed gold trim guilds (including my own) that turned their back on GW2 proved my point. Anet just failed them.
What happend to the war between guilds? Thats what i wanna know. GW2 became a war between classes who feel hard done-by an ‘unbalancable and flawed’ game concept.
Ah so the people who like rewards are 14 year old children.
Yes, if they only play for rewards. It’s okay to play “for fun” and be happy if there are additional rewards. But some people are really playing only if you give them some reward.
You haven’t explained why this is a bad thing. Sounds like merely a preference to me. Can you show that one way is better than the other?
