Hotjoin pugs..... ugh!
Hotjoins can be broken down into two types:
1. 8v8 rooms, one team is in FULL zerg mode while the other team runs in one at a time to get slaughtered for no reason.
2. 5v5 rooms, 95% of the time it’s just 3-4 people dueling in mid.
Will it be like this forever? Cause it’s been like this since betas and it’s still as annoying.
I mean I need to test builds in a typical tourney 5v5 scenario since the warriors only viable tourney build is now useless, but I don’t really want to wait for a tourney queue just to TEST a build I’m not sure will work with a bunch of other people I can’t properly communicate with.
But then in hotjoins it’s either partake ikittenerg and not get anything tested, get squashed while trying to avoid a zerg (or successfully avoid a zerg and not get anything tested), or try it out in duels with people who have specifically specced for duels (and more often then not are insane burst thieves, mesmers, or eles…)
Is there even a way for this mentality to change or are we doomed to never get any proper testing done unless you jump face first into a tourney with a team willing to put up with your test builds? (Or a warrior in general, since no one wants a warrior now after the 26th :P)
Pretty much… If this keeps up I’m gonna completely lose my interest.
If it’s just Zerg v Zerg, I avoid it at all cost. I either leave, or start back capping all the points I can. Meanwhile, my team mates run in 1 by 1 and die.
There are a few seldom games when it doesnt go like that, and you can find some decent players and get some nice glory, but meh. Those are few and far between.
You may actually try to help those who started the game you know? rather than follow the crowd and start calling “noob l2p” left and right..go out of your way to teach others, it’s not impossible to direct a 8 man team, sure there will be always the one who won’t listen but generally if you’re polite and relaxed, people will most likely listen to you and not instead antagonise you, few hours ago I was able to direct 7 low rank ( from 5 to 7) in a fun match against a full rank 30+ team.
Using words like :" pls help", “pls cap” go a long way to teach people, one of the main obstacles, new players find when trying PvP …it’s the elitism of veteran players, we want to change that attitude for the sake of PvP
You’re assuming much Arheundel, maybe my frustrations are rooted from the fact that no matter how polite I may be most players in hotjoin don’t and never will listen?
And don’t assume I don’t teach “noobs,” I’m currently one of the “sPvP Instructors” in my guild which is where I take WvW players and players just new to sPvP and teach them strategies and builds.
The difference is they actually listen, unlike your typical hotjoiner, who’s only there for glory. It doesn’t matter how much “elitism” we break cause that’s not the main issue with hotjoins.
Problem is that some players actually try to cap something which mess fair zerg fight up. Bigger maps, 15 vs 15 or 20 vs 20 and two keeps. Sound much more fun that this small scale circle capture kitten.
Seafarer’s Rest EotM grinch
I kinda like the disorganized chaotic hotjoins and play them sometimes knowing that’s what I’ll get when I go in. The big brawls at main points can be fun.
And play tpvp too also, just depends what I’m looking for in the game.
+1000
hotjoin don’t help players to learn, even it don’t help to try new things for tournaments, and now you can’t go to tournaments without be 100% sure to do the best, when you can lose rating
I felt like doing some hotjoin today instead of tournies (frustrated with soloq at the moment) and I must say this: for everyone complaining about lack of a ‘death match’ style format, do hotjoin on a Sat. afternoon. There is no sense of conquest whatsoever; zerg v zerg deathfest!
;/
soloQing my way through leagues…
Helping players in pvp always goes the same way:
1) They ignore you completely.
2) They talk crap back for no reason.
3) They listen but don’t indicate that they listen.
This game in particular is abnormally silent when it comes to player communication. I usually call out timers on bosses or buffs or if I see an empty node, or if I see on the map our entire team is fighting outside spawn while we get 3 capped. These are all things newer players may not pay attention to in the midst of combat. I know when I started out it was a huge help when players would call out things. Unfortunately it feels like most of the time no one actually tries.
Spirit Watch is the worst hotjoin map now. One team always steam rolls the other. I hate joining a match that’s 250 to 35 because they three capped and the losing team is too focused on running to the orb, spamming aoe’s, and dying, rather than simply capping the undefended nodes.
I think back to WoW and how the general rule was "never be the last person to leave a node". In this game the maps are small enough where everyone floats around, which turns into a zerg and no defended nodes.
It’s nothing but a bunch of people circle zerging each other. :x
