How Do I get past tier 1 sapphire?
I’m in the same boat man, stuck in t1 all day >.<

I guess you didn’t look at their ss. It shows they have played enough pvp to make your comment miss the mark by a mile.

Ahmm I have already 5k games, have 5 champ titles.. and been playing pvp since beta..
you are playing ele without focus, that explains alot, like almost everything, you need the focus , warhorn is useless as kitten

Disagreed. I play with sticker a lot and he plays ele quite solidly with warhorn, that’s not he problem.
The problem is that the league system punishes players that had fairly high MMR before leagues when they soloqueue by pairing them with new or inexperienced players that lack rotational and mechanical skill, causing horribly imbalanced matches. I’ve been lured with some of the worst people I’ve ever seen over the past few days going up against well known streamers and competitive players and it’s just sad. I lost 14 games in a row last night, when is that ever supposed to happen?

That’s not the point, warhorn is worse than both dagger of focus, period. Maybe not using the best build is not the reason why he is losing a lot, but it’s definitely not helping.
@Sekai and Laraley
Yes warhorn is subpar and it needs buffs, but warhorn does everything in a team better than focus. Water field check, AoE heals 2 of em check. AoE KB, AoE pull check. Blinds and bleeds AoE check. Boon share. Check.
The only reason (90% of the time) focus is gotten is bec of the Invuln and Condi Cleanse. I do not wanna be a bandwagonner just because it’s on metabattle.
BTW I am using the meta build, just with warhorn so do not blame the build for the broken matchmaking.
@Nearlight
It is so frustrating. Thanks for backing me up tho.
@ALL
One thing that amuses me is that higher divisions and higher MMR, you still find those people who do not know what they are doing in pvp.
I watch Chaith’s stream a lot, there are a lot of those people there too.

Rotations and mechanics and commutation matter far more than your build, as long as you play into the strengths and weaknesses of your build accordingly.
Warhorn’s main strength is more protection and more healing and a bit more CC/blinds than other weapons. I mean without focus you probably won’t want to try to Rez someone who’s being heavily cleaved, but reveneants exist with infuse light procs so yeah

Even with a relatively high winrate (60%), im still in saph t1 as well. This is after 130 games. Average out 10 mins per game and 5 mins per queue, thats at least 1950 mins. Progression is extremely slow.
Edit: started off with high mmr too. I can see how much longer it’s going to take as i progress through the leagues. Dontcha wish you lost all your ranked games before leagues.. punished for being good. Shame.

I just don’t get why they didn’t seed players with high mmr in a higher division at the start of the season.
Would it be so hard to just set cut-off points and seed players according to their mmr?
Would get around a lot of the troubles, people face right now.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.

That was what i suggested when they first intorduced leagues, and ws found “unfair” since every1 should start race from same point.
Even now im for elevating all those guild teams in ruby or above just to let them have some1 to play against, and not to resort to exploits for faster que times, and have casuals enjoy casual solo pvp

Aren’t you a little bit overly dramatic here?
10 games of which you won 3 and had a few unlucky defeats like 500:494 . You had a little bad luck. I have seen much worse streaks.
Hmm..yesterday i was at emerald t5, today i am at sapphire t4.. From what i noticed sapphire matches are much easier cause they are full of noobs. Grab 2 friends and rekt them all.

Just because you have this experience, doesn’t mean everyone does. My matches got significantly harder when i got into Sapphire. And the amount of premades is higher, too.

+10 on that.
Here’s some friendly advice:
- Just focus on playing better. If you’re raging about pips, you’re blinding yourself towards improving.
- If there’s a blatant, systematic issue preventing you from progressing, come and post about it in a detailed, constructive manner.
- Once you’ve done this, forget about what’s stopping you from succeeding. You’ve made your post and there’s nothing more you can do. If you focus your attention and energy on improving, the pips will come (at least until you reach your skill cap).
- Realize that you may not be the pro player you want to be. You may reach a point where you stop gaining ranks. If you let this get to you, then you’re not likely to see any change.
Really, success comes down to this: Play as well as you can and at the end of the game, ask yourself what you could have done differently. If your answer is “There’s nothing I could have done! The game is unfair!”, then you’ve already lost.
You will always encounter unfairness. It’s how you handle it that makes the difference between a pro and a scrub.

I had the exact opposite experience. When I got to sapphire, solo queueing became easier than emerald. It might just be a coincidence though.

Imo i have fought more premades in emerald. Dunno if i got on lucky scroll or smth (just closing to ruby) but the people i been fighting..like from hotjoin. Then again in t5 emerald i had about 20 fails in a row. Matchmaking is a wonderful thing.

Given the different levels of difficulty the matcher throws at different players trying for pips, what are they worth really? I mean, speaking honestly. What are they really worth if you got many easy wins?

If you win rate is > 50% as long as you contiune, statisticly you will go through.
And this is what the dev want i think.
People shouldn’t reach everythiing 1 week or 1 month. It wouldn’t fun and wouldn’t be a game.
To all those saying “Just X loses, I have seen worse”
You guys gotta remember this is sapphire not amber.
losing 3 to 5 in a row, will not let you progress further. What if you you have 3/5 pips, then lose 3? So you are back at point A.
I am just highlighting the main problem and this will be worse in Ruby bec you lose tiers, losing 7-10 in a row will lose you 2 tiers.
So how do you progress vs 5 man premades, incompetent teammates, and vs Pro teams?

Maybe you don’t. Maybe Sapphire is your skill cap.
You can’t blame everything on matchmaking.

That may be true but it you can’t deny how discouraging the lack of soloq progression is. When you play for hours and get to 4 pips and then lose them all because you lose two at a time against a premade on TS that has members with low MMR (probably manipulated by throwing or swaps) it just gets frustrating because you don’t see that gradual progress through the ladder.

however this 5v5, even if you are at ESL level if you have a worse team compared to the opposing, you lose. plain and simple.

If you get stuck with a team that insists on feeding a zerg camping your home while you try to cap and hold 2 other points it’s not a skill issue on your part.
I sailed through amber and the first tier of emerald easy 2nd tier I got strings of premades, stuck with teammates who didn’t know how to rotate around a zerg, or a combination of both.

And you know what…other people get queued with bad teammates sometimes too.
And sometimes you get queued with people that are better than you.
These are hard facts to swallow, I know. Everyone likes to think that they’re god’s gift to PvP and that teammates are the ones holding you back from being in the Legendary division, but sometimes that’s just not the case.
Considering how much focus people here are putting on their 1 v 1 skills, I have a sneaking suspicion that there’s a reason people are having trouble winning…

Ahmm.. if you think Matchmaking is not a problem you are completely mistaken.
If you think people not knowing where to go, and 2-3 capping a point, kept going far to die are better than us, go ahead.
I believe you too are not that very good Imo. so where are you getting these statements?

It doesn’t have to be constant to wreck your progress. I lost 4 pips in two games because my teammates either fed the zerg at mid or at home. So while I won 4 of six games crap teammates wiped out all my progress. Also I don’t run glass cannon or 1v1 builds, I play support or bunker characters. Further I made no mention of 1v1 skill.
Stop and think about it for a moment. You’re not some anomaly. Other people get the same bad luck with teams. I’ve certainly had my fair share of terrible teammates. You’ll love games to it, there’s no doubt.
There’s nothing different about the matchmaking you face than the matchmaking other people face as well.
@ Engel: If I talked about something that didn’t apply to you, then I wasn’t talking about you. I quoted your post, but everything there wasn’t directed at you.
Look, I know you want to blame ANet because every game you get isn’t fair, but every game doesn’t have to be fair to pull ahead. Good players pull ahead because they win some of the games where the odds are stacked against them. They don’t have to win all of them.
And if you learn to communicate well with those teammates, you’ll see even more success. Call out where you’re going. If that thief insists on going straight to far then either back them up or adjust your strategy so that you don’t just run to a 4 v 3 at mid. Just because you know strategies that work great with a good team doesn’t mean you should follow the same strat when you have stubborn or ignorant teammates.

The past few days I’ve seen:
A druid that staff autoattcked from ontop of the stairs down at mid on temple.
Daredevils that “+1” the fight against a 2v1 hammer scrapper by shortbow autoattcking instead of vault-spamming. He said it was his second game on the class. I lost two pips from that match.
A daredevil that stood on the ledge looking down at mid on forefire and died to projectiles making no effort to avoid them.
Dragonhunters that drop all their traps on point, the enmies dodge, then they have no sustain cooldowns and melt.
Shatter chronomancers that couldn’t survive for more than 20 seconds in a fight. Teams consisting of 2-3 shatter/condi chronos/DDs.
I was teamed with a bunker daredevil. You can guess how poorly this went.
Players that sit at home and rage at everyone else and type at other people to do things while in the middle of fights that they’re losing soley because they’re typing.
Massive off-point fighting, and a complete inability to know when to disengage, and inability to even attempt to stomp or rez.
When I play zerker amulet scrapper and I never die while rezzing people with sneak gyro constantly disengaging and backcapping to bust my kitten to carry my band of wayward noobs against the hordes of bunker mesmers, condi revs, infinite protection tempest bunkers, and chill reapers, I feel completely kittened by the matchmaking and it hurts.

I understand this feel. I am not a good player and the only reason I am trying to hard and want these rank ups so badly is because I really want the Legendary PVP wings which means I need to do the achievements.
I realised only this season about the achievements and I have completed one by accident last season and this season I got the second one. I am currently up to the third and in terms of ranking up I need one more to at least save myself needing 5 in the next season (I could not possibly get 5 next season, I can hardly get the third I need for this season so I only have to do four next season).
I also wouldn’t be trying so hard to get these achievements in such a small period of time if I wasn’t hearing that next season is the last one before they change how to get the wings (and I assume it will be harder to get them by that point).
Sticker Happy is stuck in Sapphire !?! Wow… I’m amazed. That makes me feel a bit better about the morass I’m in though.
Here’s a player that I know is good, stuck in the same place I am.

Metabattle has good recommendations through the meta, but I believe it comes down to how good you are with a certain class and playstyle (just make sure it can kill people solo). I got to ruby only playing glass cannon S/F fresh air which is incredibly bad compared to the meta picks, but managed to do it just because of my experience with it. I’ve been able to kill Champion Shadow thieves, necros, …
If you don’t know any profession well, I would recommend power mesmer. It has tons of interrupts that can utterly destroy eles and necros, but it takes time to get good with mesmer. Engineers are the biggest problem this season. Rev can be strong too, but condi cleanse is a big problem when you don’t have a healer ele with you.

Thief (against certain classes in certain situations only), druid (Mender’s for a great balance between damage and healing), and though it’s meta it’s still a bit slow: the macebow berserker.
