So I just bought gw2 with a group of friends so we could play a game together.
Last 2 weeks we started with sPVP and free tournaments, BUT, these are impossible.
We always face this OP guys with the most amazing builds and crits and everything..
We are beign placed against guys with hundreds, if not thousands of hours with experience. We have encountered entire teams of Champions (Champion paragon, shadow etc bla bla).
It’s not that we lose about EVERY game, but we lose quite alot..
Shouldn’t there be some decent matchmaking which lets the noobs fight eachother..? :

EDIT: Yes i have read about the “players helping new players list”, but its just that we want to discover the game ourselves and not have this 1 on 1 guide the whole way..
if you’re playing full premade i think the system tries to match you with other premades. and i doubt there are that many premades of new players. and by now almost everyone that pvps regurlarly has champion xprofession title but that doesnt really mean anything
Yea I get that you are beign put up against other premades, but it’s just thesame story when im joining with only 1 friend.
And this champion thing, I think it does mean anything, it means he/she has WON more than 150 matches playing that class while i’ve only PLAYED about 20 matches =/
Hey Mezereon, have you tried using any of the custom arenas from the PvP browser? It might be better for you guys to practice that way!
The custom arena’s are either dueling servers or zergfests and due to them only being in beta, there aren’t a lot to choose from anyway. This might be a band-aid for when custom arena’s open to the public but it doesn’t fix the matchmaking.
I personally think each class should have it’s own ranking as well, instead of it being account wide, but I’d rather see the basics done first.

I don’t know what region are you Chesire but at least in EU we have some decent servers, of course not all are god but, if you are worried about zergfests use the filter to only show servers with max 5 players for each team, about dueling don’t join the servers that show 1/2 players. The best solution for me was that at least a player would need to be glory rank 10 to enter a tournament, but that will put some players apart and I think Anet don’t want that. But i don’t think is right for players that usually play tournaments to get players on their team that just got the game 1 minute ago.
Another point the most people forget in spvp tournaments – glory rank is not using for matchmaking, being rank 40 doesn’t mean that he is better than a rank 10/20/30
There are some fails on matchmaking right now. But regardless, if you are ALWAYS getting matched agaisnt high ranked premades that means their rating is just as good as your team’s.

The NA scene is quite the opposite regarding servers. Either private team servers, duel servers or Glory Farm servers.
Overall Anet needs to stop handing out things to the privileged. First arenas to top players, then casting ability to a select few…

Custom arena isn’t way to go.
1. Its hard to get all 5 guys on 1 team.
2. People of high ranking farm it, and people getting farmed get discouraged very fast.
eg. 1 guy tries to bunker a point, whole farm zerg runs him over, then 2 other guys come out of nowhere and get farmed as well, the zerg moves to next spot, a 1v1 is going on then eventually the zerg devours that loner and caps, etc. End game, 5 people earned over 300+ glory, next game same thing and again and again.
(Theres more hotjoin heroes rank 60 than tpvp players)
The state of hotjoin (custom arena) is either glory grindfest or a dueling arena.
Matchmaking in gw2 is baddest i saw in any game and i played a lot. Not even blizzard would let be solo players cannonfodder for premade teams. Thats insane. And Arenanet dont even care bout – they said they will fix it but look at the news – useless spectator and customarenas noone ever will use others than topteams for training or tournaments.

Practice what for god’s sake? All you can practice in those custon arenas is zerging around spamming random stuff at random opponents ganking ppl 4+vs1 or being ganked the same way…very nice way to practice for tpvp lol
