How and why is this happening?
Either your mmr isn’t as high as you seem to think it is, or you are being paired with lower mmr players to balance the match out. Either way, being separated in League Divisions should fix alot of this when HoT comes out.
find 3 more buddies!
I can relate to OP. I just had a 7 game losing streak solo and duo queuing in Ranked/Unranked; not a single one of the games were close (200 point difference or more). Normally I am quick to criticize my own play rather than complain, but tonight felt ridiculous.
It seems like it is crucial to play with a full team if you have a relatively high MMR.
Note: I am not a new player: 3,500+ games
I find solo queuing fine at high MMR. Every once in a while you’ll come against a premade of top tier players, but it’s a risk you run. Rarely are matches truly outside of your control. However, you did mention something that could be the cause. You said you played with esports players often (I’m curious who, but I digress). If you win a lot of matches with those players, your MMR could be inflated, giving you harder matches. This doesn’t necessarily mean harder opponents. It could just as easily match you with weaker allies because it considers you good enough to carry when you really aren’t. Just something to consider.

But it won’t?
It’ll still be possible to be matched up with and against other division players. There’s no mention of that changing or putting any hardlimits in the queue system.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
I do my job perfectly in a match, I fight outnumbered and win while keeping the point capped, I rotate where im needed, and I hold 3 of their guys the whole match.
/rage rant off
You obviously play ele or solething like engi. So stop complaining ;-)
Feel the pain of professions which can’t even do this.
Interesting, I had a very similar issue last night, getting queued against nos and caed (which isnt abnormal) but on my team there are players who are not even able to operate their keyboard other than to turn their character.
It’s a very serious issue, it is even more noticeable as solo queue with high mmr, after waiting your entire lifetime for the queue to pop, you get people who are not even dolyak yet, and WTS winners on enemy team. Enough is enough, take the garbage homebrew systems out and put in tried and true ones.
The worst part of the matchmaking is that the longer you wait the more likely you’ll be put in a terrible match up. You’d think that by waiting it’s trying to put you in a better one. Instead, you wait a ridiculous long time just to have a miserable experience.
Ugh, I just got 5 matches in a row (all double the average wait time) with 1st time pvpers. None of them went well.
I can play the game, but I’m simply not good enough to carry an entire team.
Does the matchmaking system ever actually give decent matches? I’m sitting at just under 50% win/loss for unranked after 207 matches, but they’re still 200/500 either for or against me. I’ve almost never experienced a decent, close match.
I swapped to ranked thinking that might give slightly better matches, but it’s even worse. I lost 6 games in a row! The vast majority were curbstomps. Not even a remote chance in hell of winning.

When you put two teams of equal skill against each other, one being full of solos and the other being an organized group, the organized group will win at least 9 out of 10 matches because communication and group cohesion play such a huge role in SPvP.
This leads to solo players being underrated by the system and group players being overrated by the system. You’d have to have a perfect mix of 50% solo and 50% group games to receive a correct rating, I’d dare say that less than 5% of players is properly rated.
Because of the way the system works you’re going to have a lot of these streaks where you win a lot of games in situations where your whole team is underrated then follow it up with a lot of loses in games where your whole team is overrated.
The only way to get consistent matches with near equal players is to split back up soloQ and teamQ.
