Last night I was playing a few games on my Elementalist to learn the profession a bit, and there was this Ranger who seemed to be extremely resistant to damage while hitting like a truck.

Now, I’m not the best player around, but I was running a conditions build, and with 8 stacks of bleeding and 2 of burning his health was barely going down, to the point that I would hit him for 0 with direct damage spells when he was close to death. I thought to myself that with a vitality/toughness build he could probably pull something like that off, but in theory that would have left little room for power and precision.

I don’t know much about ranger, so I don’t know if this is totally normal and it’s just me being paranoid, but lately I hear many people complaining about players who seem to have permanent boons, super health or extreme damage, so it makes me wonder.

Do you think some people are actually cheating? :S

(class stronger than mine) is OP. (my class) is underpowered. (classes I beat easily) are fine.

All I think off the top of my head – the guy was probably using a shortbow, running with a Carrion amulet and a signet build. He probably had 22-24k health, and when he was dying he just hit his Signet of Stone.

One of the set bonus makes you immune to projectile when you get low health for a short time, thats probably the reason you noticed 0 dmg when he was low.

Rofl. I wonder if that was my brother playing last night? I don’t know his build 100%, but I know he runs it tank/high HP and he gets his burst through a pretty fine tuned rotation of utility skills and shortbow. He can only do it every 35-40 seconds, but I rarely ever see him drop in a 1v1, and some games he doesn’t die at all.

Unless ANets programmers are utterly incompetent, which I’m sure they aren’t, I seriously doubt there is any way to ‘hack’ more health or more damage, certainly not by using ‘third-party software’. At most there might be some overpowered synergy between traits or skills that ANet didn’t forsee, but I think it would be pretty well-known and quickly fixed if anything was that OP.

The most that ‘third-party software’ seems able to do at the moment is allow characters to teleport or fly. Hopefully that will be fixed soon if it hasn’t been already.

yes it is possible, and yes there are some players exploiting memory rewriting to get greater health, damage and speed hacking. As usual, it boils down to the community to report such players so Anet can take a look and ban such scrubs.

google it… its pretty common, especially when there is no other way to get an advantage. Last night a player named Mogz was using a speedhack, not maxed but you could tell the difference. He downed myself and a teammate, he did finishers on us both before I could get off the 2nd downed ability to knock him down.

Lmfao @ “memory rewriting”. You can rewrite the part of the application memory that holds your health, but all that will do is make it look in your GUI like you have higher health, you will not actually have more and you will still die just as quickly as before. Values like health and damage are all stored and calculated server-side, there is no way to modify them on the client-side, and certainly not just by “memory rewriting”. Anyone saying that this is possible clearly does not have the slightest clue what they’re talking about.

Yeah, as with the teleporting/flying I mentioned above, I believe speed-hacking is possible, though I’m kinda disappointed in ANet that this is the case. It is not that hard to implement server-side check that bounce a player back if they seem to be travelling considerably faster than they should be, so hopefully they will fix this soon. The only issue is that this becomes trickier when dealing with people on slow or bad connections, where packetloss may cause updates to be skipped or delayed and then when they arrive it might seem like the player is suddenly moving faster than they should when from their POV they actually aren’t. It’s a balancing act where you kind of have to allow a small amount of speed-hacking otherwise you risk rubber-banding people who are not hacking but just have bad connections, which could be very frustrating for them.

Some of you guys need to know the other abilities and skills of Rangers before you start talking trash. First of all ranger has a skill called protect me and i believe it will call you pet to protect you making you immune to damage. I believe they also have signet of stone which does pretty much the same thing.

As for quick finishers, there are buffs that give quickness and allow you to speed up your animation, unless that class you were fighting against does not have that buff then he’s probably hacking. Not to forget signet of rage gives you quickness as well.

Anything else besides those that I have mentioned is prolly hacking. Good day and have fun~

I thought this was going to be about addons for customizing things.

I really really need a customized UI, this one is terrible. No enemy cast bars, the enemy HP Bars/Status bars are at the top of the screen which is terrible because I have to actually watch their character for dodging etc.

If there’s ways to move this stuff or turn on buff/debuff icons to display above enemy heads please tell me, I need it badly lol.

Having to watch the characters to see what they are doing instead of having ez mode cast bars telegraphing it to you is what they were aiming for.

Cept moves in this game have the most subtle animations ever. I’m talking about knowing what to interrupt or dodge.

Cast bars aren’t that big of a deal, what I really need is buff icons above their heads instead of at the top of my screen where I’m not looking.

Oh, yeah. Forgot to mention that speedhack just makes you run faster, it certainly can’t make your actions, such as finishing, perform faster. As you mention, he probably just had quickness, i.e. the ‘Haste’ ability for thief makes everything twice as fast, including finishers, for a few seconds.

That’s called Quickness buff.
