I just got into my first match of the day to do dailies

I call that i’m going home, nobody else calls anything, fine whatever, i don’t normally call anyways but I did this one particular time. 3 of my teammates follow me, which is odd but fine, whatever.

I look, we lost basically everything in the first 30 seconds, I look over at base and notice a necromancer just sitting on the ground, doing nothing. I watch as I’m running by (turning camera but not character), still not getting up. This goes on a few more seconds and I call them out. They say “Let me tell you something, I’m not playing for a moron team that all goes home”.

She then sits there the entire game, others follow suit with her somewhat but she ends up being this spark that has us lose 500 to 40.

I tell everyone to report her, HOWEVER, there is no particular option to report someone of this kind of violation. Is calling her team morons enough for verbal abuse? I don’t know what to put down. There isn’t even a box to put in specifics of what happened.

That’s the sign of a person who’s tired of being required to carry bad teams. The fact 4 of you went home is what should be reported.

Why would you want to report the only decent guy on your team? You should be reporting those 3 people who followed you home for either botting, griefing, or intentionally throwing the match. I’d throw in scamming too just because they scammed you out of a game.

That means 2 complete idiots + the necro who realized the situation and just followed to obeserve wild monkeys in natural habitat.

If 2/5 on my team are “multi home cappers” i deserve to afk + an open letter of apology from Anets president.

i only noticed they followed after i got into the fight with the enemy as they tried to take our home in the opening drive as well. at that point i had to commit to the fight, and I did change tactics afterwards, however this did not change this person’s mind. This happens after the first minute of play, he sits down and just stops and kittenes about his team. Friggin really son?

I seriously can’t grasp the mindset some of these repliers have.

You are not decent for doing nothing. I don’t care if the team had a crummy opening, to just give up that moment is pitiful. I have been in plenty of games that turn around with persistence from everyone. If he/she is tired of playing with moronic teams, they should get out of solo-queuing and/or make their own team.

To just “afk” is only adding to the negativity. As far as common courtesy goes, and due to the inability for new players to join mid-game, if you join a game you are committed to helping your team.

OP didn’t even realize he had 3 people following him home until the enemy crossed to contest. That means they were 4 capping home. How do you not noticed a 4 cap home from the start? It’s right there on the mini map?

At that point, you’re gambling on the other team being worse than yours. And at that point, who would WANT to carry that? Assuming the necro had the capability to carry that match, he’s doing the ENTIRE PvP community a favor by taking a hit to his personal MMR to spare the rest of us 3 home cappers rising in theirs.

We should be commending his sacrifice.

The Necro did the exact right thing. As others have already pointed out – 3 people following you to home indicate they are completely clueless and by choosing not to participate this person made what would have been a travesty of a game take a lot less time for everyone.

Wish I had the discipline to do the same but I just can’t help myself.

As for those who went home mindlessly, I personally would have whispered them to let them know that is a poor practice and explain why. I’m not saying that any of you guys have to do that, but if someone doesn’t tell them they are going to just continue being dumb in other games.

There’s honestly just no point to even waste time with such a team – just lose as fast as possible and get the next game.

If those 3 bad clueless players won – in the 0.001% chance the necro was a 1v3 god – then 3x very bad players would have their MMR raised and the game would consider them closer to medium level.

Here, I’ll explain; surrender works like this:
necro – “that was a horrible opening. There is no way we can pull through from this. Do you guys want to scrap this game?”

possible response 1 – “Sure, let’s suicide”

possible response 2 – “No, I think we can pull through with this, let’s give it a shot.”

possible response 3 – “. . .”

If 2 or more people go with 1, then that is an agreement to suicide.
If 3 or more people go with 2, then that is an agreement to continue.
If 3 or more people go with 3, then they are chat-blind, but not in agreement for either 1 or 2. Therefore, in accordance with common courtesy, a default option 1.

That is thinking inversely. It is not that they deserve to be carried to a win, rather, it is that everyone is responsible for doing what they can upon entering a game they queue’d for. If what they are able to do is kitteny, that is just the way the die roll, but to give up and go afk doesn’t help anyone. What is truly screwing over the next team’s MMR is not bothering to explain what went wrong and what to do better to the perpetrators in a constructive and non-bashing way. I can agree that, if nothing is going to stop you from leaving the entrance, at least use that time doing nothing to do something through sportsmanship guidance and explanation.

It is true that actions have consequences, but that is irrelevant for this discussion — because we can choose these consequences. It is in that choice that we are currently debating. You can’t very well say that they are 4-capping home because they don’t understand that poor choices lead to poor results. Honestly, I believe nearly everyone knows that. However, it is far more likely that they don’t understand that 4 capping home is a poor choice. Their lack of understanding is likely due to nobody ever bothering to explain to them constructively.

Think about it from their ignorant perspective for a moment:

If they see someone remaining at start, are they really going to question themselves on their own ability, or personally blame their failure on the one who didn’t play?

That even goes for someone who plays, but gives advice poorly in the form of name-calling/bashing. If they are called worthless noobs/trash/idiots/etc… are they more likely to listen to said advice, ignore it, or grow defensive and cast it aside entirely?

At the end of the day, growing and maintaining our PvP community is everyone’s responsibility; it is mine as much as yours. We have to understand how to do so in a constructive manner. Taking the knee-jerk approach of afk-ing will only lead to more negativity and inexperienced noobs.

Mate – i’ve had teams that literally CANNOT rotate – they cap mid and home and then leave home to go wondering off only to have you come in and take it. Because they just left. Because reasons.

That response is incredibly self-centered. You clearly don’t care about anyone unless they are of detriment to you. I implore you to reconsider your position — if only for the reward of a less-sucky future of PvP.

Simply put, it is not my obligation nor responsibility to teach new players or grow the PvP community. I play games for myself. If my team chooses not to read chat, then I choose not to play. I have no obligation to waste 15 minutes of my time to play in an unwinnable matchup to ensure my teammates don’t feel bad.

If anything, it is Anet’s responsibility to ensure equal matchups that result in fun games, good balance, and that itself will grow PvP. It’s not like LoL became the number one most played PvP game in the world from having a carebear community.

PvP in this game is already in a terrible state – not only was ( and still might be) the balance wonky but the entire mode is stale and not really fun at all.
People do PvP because of leagues and legendary wings – once those are done people are done.

There is no less-sucky future of pvp. Not one that I can see anyway.

That aside – yes I’m self-centered – but that also means I care about the team win – because the team’s win is MY win also.
The problem is I’m not going to struggle and kill off my brain cells tryharding a match that is already lost.

It’s human nature to care more for yourself than you do for others. Humans are ultimately individualistic mammals not some form of hive-type insect. This isn’t a struggle for “the greater good”.
People don’t log into GW2 to enjoy the benefits of teaching others things – and people certainly don’t pvp in order to teach people how to PvP.
If you want to do that – go ahead – more power to ya – but it isn’t my job or my responsibility.

Nobody taught me how to PvP and you know why? Because nobody needed to – the tools to learning PvP are freely available to all.
There’s metabattle, youtube, streamers, forums and even unranked pvp and hotjoin – all these are places * a player must go to* to learn.

If Anet wants people to be taught PvP – they should make a tutorial.

Problem is against a balanced team you’re not going to win. The fact that you dominated raises a flag to me – perhaps you won not because of your comp but because of the fact that the other team was really really bad.

Two thieves aren’t terrible – but I just don’t see how 2 thieves and 2 wars can stand up a against a DH, Druid ele and whatever else those guys had.

I feel like I have to point out that the necro was teamed with others of similar MMR. He got the game he deserved and will continue to get those games until he learns to work with bad players.

Well, not anymore. If he’s in unranked, probably not. We know in unranked they balance out teams by putting good players with bad players to even it out.

If he’s playing ranked, then it’s more likely.

But it’s also a possibility that he’s an average rated player and brand new players start out with an average MMR rating (I know, stupid right?).

I just wanted to pipe up and say that I’m absolutely with Razor on this. I wish I had more than a single +1 to give to your posts, Razor. I think it’s appalling manners to afk a match. I know it’s frustrating to be paired up with people who don’t seem to understand how PvP works, particularly in ranked matches, but if a quick whisper or team chat can get the match back on track, wouldn’t it behoove everyone to at least make the attempt at winning? I see it as an opportunity to improve my own skills, if nothing else.

It is NOT okay for a top pro player to be matched against a total beginner.

Accept REALITY.
That it is one of the extreme 0.01% cases.
That bad players mostly block you after first pm.
That such a beginner wont magically improve with few words.
That such a game is lost.

You are a toxic part of the community who would rather have a game filled with self-centered, inconsiderate tryhards than give less experienced players a break. Aside from perhaps crippling technical difficulties or other outside interruptions, there are almost no acceptable reasons to afk at the start of a match.

If you have a problem with the people you’re queued with by the game, find a team of like-minded people and party with them. Don’t clog solo-q with your gigantic egos.

Yeah there were some technical difficulties, they couldn’t read their godkitten chats for some reason. And some of them evidently couldn’t see their mini-maps. They really shouldn’t play and tank the games of others until they get that fixed.

And to be fair, I do dispense advice to players who really need it. I just don’t sugarcoat it and say it straight.

League of Legends has become the most successful eSport probably in history while having the worst community in any game I’ve ever seen. So no, people being egocentric, competitive or even rude is not the reason for GW2’s PvP doing poorly. And by no means I’m trying to defend or aprove that kind of community, but it’s just how it is.

GW2’s PvP hasn’t achieved success due to many reasons, and one of them is what this thread is really about: matchmaking. Matchmaking in GW2 is simply awful, and it takes the fun out of the game when you have to play with someone else with far less knowledge and/or experience than what you have. It’s obvious that you won’t ever get 4 more players with the exact same level you have, but the differences within a team in GW2 are sometimes exasperating.

While I can understand people complaining about someone going AFK at base, I feel that unlike in League of Legends, the true root of the AFK problem is the matchmaking, not the community.

Going on with the LoL analogy, I’ve never ever gone afk or raged in that game, simply because I don’t get mad at other people’s mistakes/missplays (I make them too). On the other hand though, sometimes I get really frustrated in GW2 due to its matchmaking, and I would probably get mad in LoL too if I got matched with 4 other guys who simply went all mid and had no clue about simple strategy of the game. Fortunately, that never happens there, but it actually happens here: you see people who know how to rotate matched with people who have no clue of what they’re doing. And that just makes it impossible to enjoy playing that particular match.

Oh well the toxic players have come out of hiding No amount of condi cancer can corrupt a pvp society then you victim blamers. Nothing can cleanse u lot. You are like a single condition that just keeps sapping the health of the pvp community.

I honestly do not get why you guys play spvp solo que, Knowing full well that they’re is a solid chance that they are people worse then you, Knowing full well that u will meet people playing dalies new players. Some of you have already experienced this in 2 seasons prior. And yet you guys do not learn.

No you guys AFK often way too early in the game and effectively make the chances of winning zero. U guys know that GW2 pvp has issues and yet you continue, unwilling to adapt. Unwilling to form a team. You guys are also part of part of a poor matchmaking system, adding to losing streaks and mmr degradation. The MMR cannot account completely for such toxic behaviour. It sucks more to wait up to 10 mins to get a que pop only to see the team multicapped an uncontested point wehich = gg, and then have to reque another 10 mins with a high chance of the same thing happening again. Its not exaggerating. Are you aware that gw2 are more than likely to blame something else for the loss than to admit that they may be a below subpar player? Here we have the op admiting to multi-capping an uncontested point but than blaming the loss because of a single player. Even after the necro went afk how do you repeatedly run past a player in base? running and dying on impact.

Theres several hotjoin for the sole purpose of dailies – simply go there.

Yeah, if you guys think getting an AFKer or “toxic” people on your team is so bad, why don’t you guys all just team queue so you can control who you end up with and avoid the “toxic” players?

Your problem is with people playing poorly. This is inevitable, and if you want to play competitively you should be doing so in a team anyway. Some people have neither the time nor inclination to learn to play to your standards.

Our problem is with people lacking basic human decency. Those who just want to queue, play a few games more casually, and maybe see how far they can get in the rankings should not have to form a team just to avoid people throwing a tantrum and -deliberately- ruining the game for 4 other people.

Not everyone can or has incentive to learn to play well. Everyone should, on the other hand, learn to act like a proper human being.

And I play for myself and presumably for fun. I shouldn’t have to form a team to avoid getting put with people who think 4 capping home is “odd, but fine, whatever”.

Your first mistake is assuming it’s fine to ask 1 player to expend extra effort to carry a match. It is not fine. It is not fun. And it is not basic human decency to ask one person to do more work than the other. And then to expect that one person to go out of their way dispensing advice and acting as a fountain of knowledge.

Google exists. Youtube exists. Forums exist. All the resources exist out there. It is not my duty, obligation, ethical whatever to go out of my way to help new or inexperienced players. I do this for fun. If I CHOOSE to help a player, that is my prerogative, but you should by no means EXPECT it or feel ENTITLED to it.

So if I’m playing games for fun, and I end up on a team that thinks 4 capping home is perfectly fine, it becomes unfun for me. I am suddenly put into a position of breaking my back to win one game. Instead of a team effort, it becomes a solo carry effort of heroic portions with no guarantee of winning. Thus, they are ruining the game for me.

And besides, why do you expect it’s more fair to ask 1 person to carry. If those 4 are so into PvP, they are in a better position to pick up the slack of one AFK person.

Wouldn’t blame the Necro, in fact, I’d blame the 3 players who followed you home. Being that clueless, you deserved to be Akitten on. The necro did you and those 3 players a HUGE favor by ending that game quicker.

No the Necro needs to get a grip on reality. If he was decent he wouldn’t be teamed with people that send 4 home and can’t figure out what to do. He needs to stop expecting to be carried through his matches and l2p or make a 5 man team, or even better find a new game. But odds are he can’t get 4 other people to play with him.
