Champion Slayer | sPvP Rank 90
Dragonbrand
Guild Wars 2 PvP (counting Beta) has been out for almost a year. So I think it’s high time~
How do you feel about the curve of our ranking up on PvP? Fast? Slow? Does it feel rewarding? Any other thoughts you would like to share?

For myself:
My rank is currently 30 so I guess I am sort of a casual player, considering many of you readers here are higher. However, I think the “sense of progression” starts to go away post Rank 20.
Take tournaments-PvP. When I win matches, I get the reward chests and the rank points that comes feel sufficient. As the rank points for 10~20 was mostly 4000 per rank. Estimately 10 tPvP winds can get me 1 rank, which is fair and encourages me to take risks to play tPvP over hotjoins.
But when the rank points double (4,000—>7,500)from Rank 19 on, the rank points I get from wins feels okay. I started to realize why many people chose hotjoins over tPvO because the former is simply more steady.
When I see the rank gap double yet again on Rank 29 (7,500—> 15,000), I gave up on getting rank points from tPvP. For 15,000, you need to estimately win 30 matches. Considering how hard that is, i went right back to 8v8 hotjoins, because my risk/reward ratio in tPvP cannot fulfill the gap fast enough.
I also have a confusion here: why the escalating rank points in PvP while in PvE, level points are roughly the same throughout the game progress???
One of the biggest advantages of this game’s PvE side is that the leveling curve feels consistent. What I am feeling for PvP right now, is that this game mode feels like old MMO leveling curves. For no good reasons~
What do you think?
Well sometimes it gives me brain aneurysms. Wait no that’s just the players
you dont like 15k for rank at wolf ooo men you will wish you dint say this wen you get tiger or brear
anyway think about it there isnt much to do in pvp so you have to lv realy swoly in other not to quit.Imagin if we all get rank 80 for 2-3 mounts like in pve ppl will mass stop plaing pvp
I don’t care about progression and leveling in pvp, I play pvp because it’s fun.
Your leveling curve for “other MMOs” is also completely wrong. You made it an exponential function, which means that the rate is increasing, which is not common experience. Instead you should use a logarithmic function – ln(x). In my experience the rate decreases over time in all MMOs. Just as it does in GW2.
I don’t care about pvp progression. To me it’s simply a marker of how much “experience” someone probably has.
Lol @ your attempt at making a graph.

the y-axis is “Time to Level Up” not “Rate of leveling up”
L2R?
Also, in PvE, the level points are identical post level 30 (or 20, I can’t remember~).
Hence the curve

Well yeah, but these facts:
1. No one has reached Rank80 whereas there are tons of Level80 in PvE
2. People are grinding more and playing “real PvP” less
is what we get as a result of the design to “stop people from mass-stop-playing”
I think in PvE, this will be an issue because PvE relies on new contents to keep players in the game. hence we have Living Story to keep PvEers in the game even after R80.
in PvP this would not be an issue, because players are fighting other players. The wide possibility of gameplay keeps people in the game. Even if everyone reaches R80

Lol @ your attempt at making a graph.
That graph is from a long time ago, and the OP most likely did not make it. That was made way back from when GW2 was still in beta and it was to show players how Guild Wars 2 was not going to make leveling harder each level, but instead plateau out so it took roughly the same amount of time after a certain point. However, this only applies to the PvE portion of the game.
