Alright, I know this might seems like trolling, while it is not.
I’m rank 29 as of now, not really far from a complete beginner, and I see, especially since the new patch, all kind of topics where people are being teamed with noobs (or so they say)
my question is: how do you spot them?
There is, of course, a few things that even I can notice:
No communication or organization being an example.
But apart from that, surely even some noobs cares to communicate or act like they know something, so how can you see them?
I’m asking out of curiosity, but also to avoid doing the same mistakes, to be a better PvP player…
Thank you

In all honesty, it’s all subjective. People tend to play better at times and worse at other times, and can be pretty inconsistent in their play (I’m a great example of this).
For me at least, spotting someone who is completely new at PvP is really evident by looking at the minimap as the game goes on and how they play capture points. The most common misconception of gw2 pvp is that it is team deathmatch, when keeping the points, fighting on point, and not engaging even fights on enemy points are far more important.
Furthermore, the forums is a poor indication of any real truth. I do not have much experience with many online games, but the trend seems to be that it is just a place where people vent their frustrations, hormones, and attract publicity. Maybe once every 50 threads you will find something constructive.
Also, I’m not sure if I’m correct to say this, but do not feel discouraged by others if they are calling you a noob. Play the game for enjoyment, and you’ll see yourself improve over time. Screw the haters.
On top of that previous point, one of the most severely lacking components of gw2 pvp are tutorials. There is nothing, aside from other players, to learn how to play the conquest game. In that sense, the community is very split, and toxicity arises. However, if you can find a few good players that you see in solo que and can get along with, then you all can learn the game together, read guides, watch streams, and have an even grander time.

You can spot them in many ways like if they use meta builds. Weapons and titles, too.

You don’t need to hide if you’re a beginner. People who ask to get better are the ones that will get better.

Just play and have fun. Watch some pvp guides on youtube or even the beginner thread above in this forum.

Communication is good. Especially before the game starts. But since “Everyone is so pro” it’s not always a sign.

This pretty much everything I hope newbies learn before they join a ranked match.

Constantly pushing a bunkered far is another.

Aeroxe had a great post, but I do think there are some things that the newest players do that makes them stick out.

- capping close with 2 ppl at start of the game
- capping close and staying there
- fighting off point despite not being pressured
- leave cap to chase some1 and then getting decapped
- leave cap to chase some1 before fully capped
- getting steamrolled in 1v1 despite being turret engi or d/d ele
- horrible judgement calls on rezzing/stomping
- stay in the fight til everything was stomped
- generally poor understanding of rotation concept

There’s a couple of more “noob moves” besides those for sure. Sometimes even experienced players make one of these mistakes, so you can’t always tell. Regardless, everytime I see people do this, I’m pretty sure they are either very inexperienced players, or intermediates in kitten mode.

Thank you all! However there’s one thing I find confusing
How does using Metabuilds makes you a noob?
Those builds have been tested previously and what are supposed to work best in the current situation, thus most efficient builds found by player.
I could understand if you meant that someone using meta builds without understanding completely his profession and why the rotations and skills/traits given works that way, but I don’t think that someone using a meta build is inherently a noob…
My 2 cents.

Actually most new players I see use horrible builds. Some semi-new players copy and paste meta builds.

The biggest thing I notice about new players, in general, is that they dont dodge obvious skills and tend to overrotate. For example, if their home is being attacked by 1 player, all the new players will run to home point, leaving mid undefended. Meaning that they are constantly losing nodes. Also mechanically new players tend to be horrible, they stand in one place, constantly backpedal, don’t know how to escape from fights, etc.

aye this basically sums it up.

regarding this, sometimes it is a gamble though.
“horrible judgement calls on rezzing/stomping”

for example,
running into various AOE trying to stomp or revive is bad
- shoot from outside the AOE range to bleed the downed opponent.

downed ally being bombarded by lots of AOE is usually a lost cause unless
- guardian pops a shield bubble that absorbs projectiles while reviving
- thief pops a shadow refuge on top of that.
(still a bit risky thief pops a shadow refuge without extra protection)
- high armor tactics warrior with mercy runes with stability
- the warrior stuns every nearby melee DPS enemy with earthshaker first before attempting to revive

still a gamble anyway, because stability can be very easily removed as well.
but at least with stability, the odds of success is increased slightly.

attempting to revive confirmed lost cause is also errr wasting time and effort?

for example,
attempting to revive ally that is being stomped by
- shruken engineer
- mist form elementalist
- anyone else with stability, and unable to remove the stability first before interrupting.

I dont get why ressing your teammate is a lost cause when being stomped with those above? What does ressing have to do if they are invuln?

well, it takes a full 3 seconds (if they do not have quickness) from start to finish to stomp someone.

so unless there are multiple team mates reviving the downed, and can successfully revive within 3 seconds before the stomp is completed, it will be a lost cause.

or a gamble.

see who is faster.
the stomper? or the reviver.

usually stomp happens very fast if we are not paying attention to the health bars of our team mates.

otherwise, warriors should carry battle standards for quick AOE revives.
however, deploying a battle standard requires 2 seconds so the warrior only have a 1 second window to deploy the battle standard before the opponent starts stomping.
