hey i’m currently in plat and as my topic says im wondering how does matchmaking act when im queuing with one of my friends(he probably high silver level) who’s of way less skill then me?

i know in the past it would simply up him to my my skill is that still the case?

league of legends used to do this but moved to just taking the higher rated players rating because of abuse. eventually they even went so far as to restrict your ability to queue far outside of a nearby range to prevent boosting.

is it a geometric average or an arithmetic average? i doubt that the extra power to affect a games outcome by duoing should result in an effective mmr that is lower than the higher players actual mmr in any case.

you make it in season 1 and its abused via smmurfing and you make it again, great, great.

Yep, way to allow people to boost their way into leaderboards with easy matches using alt accounts.

This combined with the decay variability and it feels like very little was actually thought out in how exploitable gaining rating can be.

Not quite. Your logic doesn’t flow.

Assume you, in platinum, ~1700, duo with someone in silver, ~1100. You average out to 1400, placing you in mid gold tier matches.

Assume that your friend in silver is actually an alt account with a tanked rating, but he or she is actually also a platinum level player.

2 plat + 3 gold >> 5 gold.

Your boosting in season 1 worked because it was possible to team queue, and if you only had 1 low tier player, it does not drag the overall average down as much with 4-5 people as it does with just 2 people.

Yeah but since the high ranked player is playing against significantly lower ranked players, the rating gain from beating them is much smaller.
