How many games to rank 80?
Rank points are awarded based on participation time as well, so you need to be in the match for 7 minutes in order to get maximum points (whether it be winning or losing).
You need a total of 1,111,500 points to reach 80, assuming you’re playing unranked/ranked (1,500 points for winning, 500 for losing) games exclusively you’ll be averaging 1,000 points per game plus another 20 for bonus objectives (5 from capture, neutralizer, player kill, and skirmisher, defender, or assaulter).
That’s about 1,090 games for a minimum of 127 hours (not including time spent waiting for queue to pop, people to ready up, loading screens, etc.).
who cares it doesn’t matter
really bad engineer

thanks awesome answer
1500x+ 500x + 5(2)x = 1,111,500
2010x = 1,111,500
x = 552.98. . .
Approx 553 games to win, 553 lost, 1106 total.
If que+game avg is 11mins total, round up 203 hours.

It’s 1093500 to hit rank 80. Not sure where that other number is coming from.
Without top player bonuses, you get 1000 rank points per match, which would be 1093.5 matches. You’ll gain ~1% extra from top player bonuses, but also get no rank points every once in a while from being put on the wrong end of one-sided stomps. 1080-1090 matches would be a reasonable guess.
I get 1500 rank points per win and wiki says it too.

that seems like so little for maxrank….
I wonder how long it would take for dragon in GW1 with a 50% win-rate…. In GW1, rank-rewards grew with the amount of successive wins and even the hardest grinders with 90%+ wins had probably 10x longer for maxrank than in GW2, okay, here comes the math (which I’m not particularly good at btw.)
Let’s see, with a 50% win stat, your average rankpoints per game were if we’re very generous, 1 fame. (0 win= 0 fame, 1win = 1 fame, 2 wins= 2 fame for the second win, 5th win gave 6 fame and 14th+ 40 per win) So if you’re lucky and your losses and wins align pretty well, you might get up to 1 fame on average with a 50% win stat.
r12 required 21,600 fame (rankpoints for Heroes Ascent), so roughly 20’000 games. The w8ing time was often much longer in the Ascent, you had to play a weird VS-NPC-Map first and to even get to 50% wins, you had to go in an organized team of 8, very likely with TS, so 15 mins per game is very very conservative.
—->5’000 hours for r12!
—->r15, which was maxrank afaik, took about 5 times more fame. ^^’
with the duration for maxrank in GW2, you’d still be barely stuck with the first rank-emote in GW1 (/rank), which was a bambi. ^^’
And Heroes Ascent was considered to be the easier Game-Mode than GvG. :P

It took me 2500 games… But thats probably because I played before they gave like 5 times as much rank points :P
Warning: link may contain traces of awesome.
Lyssa’s Grimoire – a guide every Mesmer should read.
It took me 1.100 matches in ranked (99,9% of my time in PvP) playing always with pugs and with a 50-51% win ratio.
So, 1.100 matches is a solid prediction for the average joe if can retain a 50% w/l.
Hitted 80 two days ago with approx. 1200 games played (some of which on unranked)
and played around 300 hours (probably more mind you).
I consider myself average, though I did have an already high grasp of my ele’s skills and rotations upon entering pvp, yet started my mesmer from scratch.
If it can help…

The 1000 comes from assuming 50% wins.
Heavily depends on what type of queue and win %.
Heavily depends on the build/class you’re playing too. You will rank up faster (and go through reward tracks faster) playing lb ranger or staff ele, where you can tag every kill that occurs and get 300 part points and top player each game. It used to be much harder to rank up. I stopped playing back before they nerfed it and I was like rank 40 with around 2.5k games played, now I think I’m like rank 65 or something with around 3k played. You can get it in about a month of spamming unranked/ranked 40+ hours a week with a couple friends and playing LB ranger. It isn’t much of an accomplishment anymore though, a lot of ppl abused an exploit on skyhammer awhile back (everyone aoe’s eachother then jumps off cliff over and over again for mass glory farming) that basically allowed you to get it in like a day, so a lot of ppl have it now.
