I stopped playing a month ago due to imbalance being ridiculous and the in game pvp community having crap attitudes. So just curious, how is everyone enjoying PvP these days? Worth coming back?

To be honest that list isn’t very accurate. Unless faced with a well orgsanised and balanced (in terms of classes) the ranger does incredibly well if traited right. I don’t have much problem with any class as ranger except the usual lurking backstab thief you never see.
The major issues with Spvp are too many to list but a few are:

The loading screen bug that perma-roots you in loading screen during matches resulting on you having to kill the game and restart.
The complete lack of meaningful fixes to obvious and well documented class equilibrium.
0.5 second quickness burst deaths.
Bunker builds outlasting 3 or 4 players.
The lack of players actually bothering with PvP.

I could go on but basically nothing at all has changed within a month except perhaps less people playing GW2 in general, leading to either hardcore players or people just starting out. This often leads to 500 – 150 win/loss as an example.
I am very close to quitting altogether and like many posts I read recently I doubt I would return.

Well, I logged on for a few to see how it was. First game I got frozen on the loading screen after a respawn. Good to see progress has been made since the last time I played it, lol

It sucks, because its boring. It seems since the last Beta that spec diversity has actually shrunk, necromancers never really recovered I don’t think, there is really nothing to do besides spam conditions for the most part. Boards are small as well so its just Zerg condition spam. Combat is fast, effects do not last long, focus on damage skills, control, healing, lifedrains, fear are all nutcut compared to damage skills. Translates the same way in WvWvW, no control one big moving zombie zerg. There are very few moments in the game where you will EVER have a 1v1 match in WvW or spvp, and dueling is just not the same, pvp has alot of problems.

Maybe if they had some more casual friendly pvp games to play while they FIX the broken mess that is pvp some people would be able to hang on longer. Like the Hunger games thing they did in beta, cap the flag or something.. anything. But after that last ninja patch I doubt they will hang around much longer.

Garbage at this moment. They make some classes easy to play for 5-year olds like Mesmers and Engis, while some classes take work to be effective (Necros, Ele, Ranger, Warrior, Guardian, Thief debate-able). No infrastructure to help people actually learn how this game is supposed to be played, ANET being a bunch of preachers on how tournies should be played via Kylho and Mesmers.

Hopefully ANET actually pulls their selves together and actually fix things that need to be fixed.

Since people are negative about nerfs, how about we buff to balance then?

The following is pure opinion:

1. Bursts still kill you in 3 seconds if you’re not careful (this is really not fun imo and you should never ever be able to die in 3 seconds unless you’re being gunned down by a huge mob)
2. Annoying classes are still annoying: Mesmers, Thieves, Guardians, Warriors (The HB Nubs)
3. There’s only one sPVP mode and it’s a boring mode. I really wish there was death match or capture the flag!
4. It’s all about the zerg because holding a point doesn’t give you any glory so the only way to get glory is to run with the zerg even if it means losing a cap point
5. Classes are still unbalanced and there are many bugged skills/traits
6. sPVP combat is very twitch-based and there’s very few tactics involved. I really wish things were more cerebral and players were able to complement each others’ playstyles more (comboing in each others’ fields). I know this is a strange suggestion, but I think it’d be easier to combo with other people if the elemental fields were more obvious and comboing in them made a more noticeable effect/text just to make things more blatant, like if there was a big “Might!” text or “Stealth!” text.
7. It’s DEFINITELY not true that any class can use whatever playstyle they want and not be punished for it.
8. You run into some really kitteny teams in sPVP sometimes and then other times, really good teams due to no matchmaking.
9. There’s an obvious skill gap. And it’s obvious due to no matchmaking.

But aside from all the negatives, PVP is still fun sometimes (and some times not)

pretty much hit the nail on the head with this one.. its not often superiour skill altho maybe for a few teams it is skill but the majority just takes massive advantage of certain team set ups and fotm and easymode classes and communication wich requires no skill just a vent or mumble or ts channel to roll up pugs..

tpvp is no skill even paid tournaments arent that skillfull imo its still the same bs standard team setups with the same class specs and rng at work..

So, pretty much sPVP but the team actually talks to each other? I figured. Talking to each other really does help a lot though.

You still can’t outplay enemys significantly and Quickness remains unchanged. Stealth culling got fixed at least.
In summary PvP is still a casual fun instead of the advertised competetive environment.

its basicly 4 bunkers and a thief mostly in tournaments seem to work best.. should rename this game to bunkerwars.. cause basicly thats what it is.. spec into toughness vit get stability and some heals and some super elites and youre basicly unkillable untill 4 people start beating on you.. its verry zzz..

nothing changed and nothing will change soon i think.. but who knows might be wrong..

its dead, theirs noone queueing outside of peak time for paid tournaments and inside them the few try hard teams (“pro teams”) farm the more normal people who dont invest 6 hours a night every night earning a currency that buys nothing that yet exists, frees are easy enough to get into quick but everyone in them these days is low rank and awful so its likely just the pve’ers having a go for fun and so you can win without armour or comp easily enough. The game play is fine bar a few issues for what it is, and actually probably the best mmo pvp system in a game imo. However the excitement long since passed due to the awful systems in place for spvp competition and with it went 80% of the people.
I didn’t actually realise it was as bad as it is until today at 1500 hrs i queued for paids and for 45 mins was the only team in the queue. Which says it all. The argument that when its all sorted people will flock back is nonsense maybe 2 in 10 might have a look but with the current systems plus how bad the game is to watch (average stream views of sub 200 across all streamers). Its dead, and actually dead faster than swtor which shocks me as the game is sooo good in alot of ways.

i hate reading posts like this because its true i had over 6 ppl quit now in the last 4 days. after they fix this i have to rebuild a team again.

we had the top pvp guild in swtor but the same thing happened and i think that left a bad taste in alot of ppls mouths. when pvp starts dieing its a ripple affect that just crushes ppl.

but i will tell you all this i have 100% faith in anet they are going to read post probably sunday night and monday after there vacation will have some answers for us.

so all you that quit or are quitting please come back give them a chance and if they put in the advanced option i think we will have over 400 teams playing competitivly by next month then they add a ladder to that omg great game.

Honestly, though. When you’re on a server, by yourself… for 10 minutes. It really kills the fun. Now, it’s more based on luck to find a decent game to participate in.

Really? I think it really depends on how you play. If you’re a roamer or a if you run with a zerg. I’m lvl 16 and I haven’t noticed an increase in 1v1 battles.

Yes I’m with you. I completely disagree that the combat is good. I think it is terrible in many ways. Mainly being over simple but there are other things I have noticed which annoy me a lot (no gcd; self-rooting channelled cast-time lock-you-in animations; doesn’t feel fluid; too high damage/burst for the kind of game it is; highly latency dependent kitten like dodge).

I also disagree with the guy earlier who mentioned “skill gap” as a problem (though I agreed with most of his other points). Nope I dont see it. I miss raging from being outplayed. pvp is just meh don’t care, regardless of whether im winning or losing.

See, this is the kind of crap attitude in the community I was talking about. Because I considered the PvP sub par (not the combat, just class balance, map variety, etc) and took a break in hopes it would be fixed, I’m no longer part of some elitist club. I played GW2 since pre-purchase up until the Halloween event. I’ve had gameplay experience longer than 2 weeks. kitten

I don’t think they can fix the issues with this game fast enough to keep it from imploding. The bugs and class balance are just too much and Anet is just too slow to respond. I couldn’t get a single one of my friends to buy the game after the free weekend. They loved the PvE but after PvP for an hour they were done.

Mezers need to be toned down a lot
Theifs need to be toned down and the stealth cooldown debuff needs to be extended

Anet wont make these changes so people are going to leave and it sucks.
