How the current Meta is ruining the game for me.
I’m guessing that you’re running a 100b warrior? cos you don’t really state and “gap closers” could be anything from bull rush to eviscerate etc
here’s a clue, if you’re running an offensive based warrior, quickness or gt*o…
First, warriors aren’t bad. They’re the best support DPS in the game. Their TTK is faster than any other class, sitting at 2.5 seconds because of their pocket burst abilities.
But I don’t understand. You don’t want to “reroll” in a game where you can pick up any profession at any time and play it?
This isn’t WoW. This isn’t SWTOR. This isn’t RIFT. Barrier to entry is non-existent in GW2.
Rerolling doesn’t apply. You don’t spend anytime leveling and gearing up. You just swap characters and play.
You should be able to multi-class.
I run Greatsword/Hammer, 10/10/30/0/20, which works fine for pub stomping and lets me ‘manage’ 1v2 for quite a while. But I can’t take that into TPvP because a Dueling Spec like that wouldnt last very long against a BS Thief and doesnt stand much of a chance against a Bunker Guardian who can mitigate my CC/Burst.
I will agree that Warriors make good Supportive DPS, but with the current Meta it serves no role in a team. Mesmers make better Roamers, Thieves focus fire faster, Guardians/Engi Bunker better.
The games has devolved into 3 (4 if you count the rare Conditionmancer) classes.

I would agree that a warrior has no place in SPVP, but that can be said for any class outside of the only 3 viable classes( Thief Guardian and Mez). I do have to disagree with WvW play though. My team runs a very heavy high burst team of 3-5 players, with almost always 2 warriors.
I run Great Sword and either Rifle(nice ranged bust and double slow with Chill sigil) Bow( 5 second immobilize late in a fight is pretty beast and the AOE helps with cheating invis thieves) or Sword and War horn(once again mobility slows and perma movement buff between the horn and your elite). Besides the fact you have to run a GS for huge burst damage, try other combo’s out that might help you out in the world.
Warriors are nowhere near worthless in WvW.

My point is that I shouldn’t have to reroll another class to be a viable team mate in comps. There’s definitely something wrong when Hot-Join and TPvP is full of Thieves and Mesmers.
Team PZ have been running with warriors and they are currently undefeated in paid.

You don’t.
Warriors aren’t really the best class in the game, but they’re viable in a variety of comps and – as mentioned by another poster – PZ runs a warrior regularly and they have an absurdly high win rate in both frees and paids.
Some of you guys really need to look inward instead of blaming everything on whatever the meta is at any given point in time. Go watch some streams or something if you can’t figure it out for yourself.
My humble opinion is that this is due to lackluster performance of balanced builds in general. Seems most “balanced” builds don’t have enough defense/utility to survive bursts, and don’t have enough dps/burst to get a bunker down.
I’ve seen a lot of great warriors play an essential role in their team, it just isn’t usually sustained dps like you seem to be going for. That said, warriors are not one of the current “mandatory” professions for tournaments.
In other news, even if you’re just asking a simple, reasonable question, don’t be surprised if you hear multiple “L2P” rants thrown your way. Seems to be the new way to show other gamerz that ur l33t.
you’ll also see a lot of thieves because of the low skillcap of heartseeker spam
mesmers because, HAVE YOU SEEN WHAT A SHATTER BUILD CAN BRING?
and the odd guardian cos bunkers are cool these days…
You’re not alone. At least on the forums a very large % of the warrior population on the boards feels very disappointed in warriors as a class. Sometimes it’s not so much performance as presentation because many people just don’t care about Tourneys or have flat given up on using a warrior for tourney play. I’m in the second camp. Anything a warrior can do in a tourney comp another class could do as well, and far far better.
Anyways like you I have a thing for the “warrior” class in every MMO (WoW was a prot warrior for 6 years, War I ran a chosen because it was the closest to stance dancing and SWToR I ran a knight because it was a prot warrior with a light saber).
I run sword and board + longbow currently because I like sword n’ board as a style. In PvE I can have fun on my warrior and feel like I contribute. In WvWvW I can roam around and feel like I’m not totally kittened. I would never ever EVER subject a team to my warriors presence in a tourney and drag them down. Especially with sword and board and even more especially with a longbow. It’s just pointless. So I bring something else in tourney play that actually deserves to be there as a class (usually my ele because of the stance dancing mechanic which I enjoy).
TLDR
Hang in there man. If you have to run tourneys I suggest finding a viable class to play since you don’t have to level it and keep your warrior for PvE and W3. At least until something is done to overhaul the warrior class for tourney viability.

I always find these comments hilarious cause if you look through the ele forum, you’ll see people claiming the same thing there. If you look through the ranger forum, same thing. Even people on the necro forum say the same thing occasionally.
Logic tells me the classes in question aren’t the problem.
NoctredEle…..ranger…..necro……
Wait! You mean to say the non guardians, non mesmers, non thief classes feel like they’re underperforming in PvP and especially tourney play? Noooooo
That’s just… unbelievable for sure man.

Don’t twist my words around sir.
Point is simple – people playing multiple classes all complain that their class blows and any other class does anything they can do, only better. Logic states that the players are primarily the problem, since multiple classes obviously can’t be the worst at everything at the same time.
In short – l2p.

l2p? Are you serious? Obviously he is right in what he posted, and obviously you can’t deal with it. Saying “l2p” is basically just saying “I don’t have a valid argument.” Why bother even posting?
I made an argument – l2p was just the summary.
You should probably re-read the posts, thoroughly.
No offense but your original whine sorta shows what you problem is. Anyone who thinks warriors were bad in wow or vanguard were bad in SWTOR is most likely their own biggest problem.
Based on those comments you would feel useless and outclassed no matter what class you play.
In WoW we always got kited and stunlocked.
In SWTOR the Trooper was a fairly sub-par PvP option.
In WAR the Black Orc didnt quite live up to their tanky-ness.
Warriors in WoW were one of the best PvP options for the majority of the games life. A Trooper Vanguard was one of the strongest classes in TOR, were you a Commando or something? Black Orcs weren’t tanky? Tell that to the Shadow Warriors who couldn’t take them down. The only class that could reliably kill them were Bright Wizards, and we all know what happened to Bright Wizards 3 months into release.
Maybe the problem here is you. Alright, so Black Orc might not be the best tank in WAR, but the other classes you played were some of the best classes in those games for PvP.
I don’t have much problem on my Warrior. I play Hammer/Axe/Mace in a hybrid tanky-dps spec.
There are a few issues with Warrior in this game. Some of the attacks obviously need a faster animation so they aren’t so easily dodged, but other than that Warriors are in a pretty good place.

try to test changing traits, runes and weapons , playstyle and stuff like that. warriors are very good melee dps in tpvp, you just need to learn what you can do and what you can’t do with your class.
thoery craft is nice..
Oh, I also want to add that I have been invited to two different tPvP teams after they saw my performance in sPvP on Warrior (after they were on the receiving end). Warrior really isn’t as bad as people would have you believe.
So sad to hear three professions are dominating sPvP. The fact that this has happened shows how poorly the professions have been balanced for head to head team play. The outcome of course will be a rebalancing of the professions breaking builds and play strategies on the PvE side of the game to balance on PvP side. We don’t need to go down this road for months or years. ANet please do what you did in GW1 and have the option to make certain skills behave a bit differently in PvP
I know the grand vision was that all professions would be balanced, but the meta proves this isn’t the case.
Honestly I think the problem is more the fault of the spvp game designs. All of the maps are designed around holding points. So of course this encourages builds that can take a beating and just bunker down in a certain spot.
They need to start introducing new spvp mechanics that encourage other builds and comps. Maybe capture the flag and kill the other team’s lord type of fights.
I have yet to see a class that can’t compete in spvp. Ranger feels a bit on the weaker side but I play all class in tpvp and with the exception of ranger i didn’t feel that any class can do better. Mesmer and thief are on the strong side… but by no means are they the only classes in spvp that are viable. This is a l2p issue, as one of the previous posters said when referencing your comments about previous games…. it was painfully obvious that you aren’t playing well or you just don’t fit well with the playstyle of the classes you listed.
Warrior is fine, they just can’t be played like a pubstomper in tournamentsj if you want to do well.
