How the league system will be abused

If you make it MMR based then people’s tiers can change without them playing, since MMR deteriorates over time and other people can build MMR while you aren’t playing.
If you are worried about players gaming the tiers via MMR drops just knock them down tiers if they lose too much.
That all said ANet hasn’t released the details of their system. In the past they put the details on the wiki for the community to find the weak points. I’d wait for that before judging things given minimal information.

The true question is how many pips you need to reach the legendary division. Because if they talk about a reset every season, you need to farm X pips everytime to climb every divisions and try to enter in the legendary divisions.
What legendary division will mean? You grinded 40 games/daily to try to enter there?
or You simply have a good full premade and you can reach the same division in half of time?
Soloer with no team and no more than 2-3 hours daily can get only a mid tier level, doesn’t matter if they are super good?

No my guess is that the Pips and tiers will have nothing to do with matchmaking. I’m assuming the current matchmaking will be in place so even if your not high mmr you just have to beat other not high mmr people so you still have the same opportunity to get legendary as top tier mmr.
Pairing high variance mmr will just make for even worse matchmaking and because you can’t drop tiers people who get carried enough will gradually end up where they don’t belong and get stuck there.
If it was mmr based then you could drop tiers and I would be okay with that, that’s how it should be the tier should be a representation of your skill level not farm dedication…
And you wouldn’t drop mmr by not playing your variance of your rating would increase so the next time you play your games count more to solidify any decay in your level of play.

Yes, so if the divisions are a mix of all ranges of MMR. And you still are only fighting in your own MMR to climb. And you can’t fall past certain points. What’s stopping you from artificially lowering your mmr to get easy stomp streaks to climb to the next point you cant fall past? You need to be able to fall out of tiers, which would then relate tiers to MMR which is a good thing.
There’s also the issue of win trading.

MMR does not change overtime, you can quit for 2 years and come back and have the same rating. The only thing that changes is the leader board ranking. That one of the perks of this game, it used to be amazing until they made it pretty much impossible to stay high on the leader boards unless you play for over 4 hours a day in PvP.

Anet will never limit the pairing to the same tier. If you did, be prepared for wait times far far longer than what we have now. Already they didn’t want to create a solo q for fear of splitting the PvP population. Restricting matches to people of the same tier is tantamount to creating 20 different queues.
In other words, not going to happen.

Just make it so you can’t gain anything if your MMR is too low relative to your league. It’s how League does it, sort of.
