Hi. There are many posts about people saying the game is not balanced because they died very quickly at some point. In this post I will outline some ways people suck and suggestions for how to stop.

  1. You will not win every encounter.
    1. The enemy may be better.
    2. The enemy may have counters to your build.
    3. The enemy may call for backup.
    4. You may lack counters to the enemy’s build.
    5. You may just have a terrible build.
    6. kitten happens. Move on.
  2. Do not complain about too much cc. The counters to cc in order of ease-of-use are:
    1. cc-breakers
    2. cc of your own
    3. Knowing the enemy’s cc skill, how it is used, and dodging at an appropriate time.
  3. Do not complain about too much burst damage. The counters to burst damage in order of ease-of-use are:
    1. Defensive skill (even on a weapon) offering get-out-of-jail functionality like stun break or some form of damage mitigation or displacement (varies a great deal, read your skills).
    2. Having the field awareness and forethought to cc the enemy before they get to you (high burst is always melee range). Prevention is key; cc is king.
    3. Knowing the enemy’s weapon skills, how they use them, and dodging before the stun/immob hits.

Please note that knowledge of the enemy’s class/weapon/general build is necessary for several of these points. If all else fails, roll the class that beat you, maybe it really is OP. Hopefully at least some of you will take this seriously.

I don’t know, I rarely see it. I do know that you can still dodge while transformed, and I’ve never died while in it. I’ve heard that you can dodge it in the first place. Assuming it is a projectile, which it might be but the wiki doesn’t say, then you could just block it.

Moa can be dodged and interrupted just like everything else.

Ahh, makes sense. You play the class that has by far the most defensive utility of the sorts you described. What might seem easy to an engineer (and I know as I do play one myself) may be incredibly difficult or even impossible to some other classes.

You also repeat the fallacy of discussing these issues as if everything were a 1 on 1, in which case you’d be correct. Turn that into a 3v3 or a 5v5 and it’s an entirely different story.

I was just chasing an Engi and i’ve got to say they have to be the most intense kiting class i have ever fought against in any MMO.I agree with most of what you wrote, but you are either seeing it from the wrong (right for you) position or you must be talking about another game.

I’m only going to comment on the CC stuff, but let me ask you a few questions.

1) How exactly are you CCing opposing players as a counter to their CC when you’re CCed yourself? You must be quite good!

2) Is there some kind of special food you can buy off the TP which is usable in PvP which allows you to dodge incoming CCs when your endurance is empty?

Look, the CC in this game is too strong, and this is coming from probably the only guy in the world who thought CC was perfectly fine in TOR. I am not one who just jumps off the rails and shouts “broken!” every time I die to something and my track record in that game is one of performing near the top in every category while adapting to whatever difficulties – like CC – I had to face. As a person with this history, I can’t help but say the CC in this game is out of control.

Yeah, they’re crazy good at kiting and controlling the opposing players’ movement. It’s amazing what you can do as an Engineer.

I think with time ppl will get better, unless they just give up. Is the game “perfectly” balanced, no and no game ever will be, but it’s a far cry from what the majority of people actually using these forums are saying. There’s a thread for almost every class and someone complaining they are “op” because (insert reason)which actually gives more credence to the fact that it’s in a better state then some here want to believe.

I think it’s simply that some classes are “easier” or more forgiving then others and not “all” builds are even viable for PvP. Nobody post there spec nor go into an detail to give validity to their claims. Which makes 90% of these these threads irrelevant.

Not attacking anyone, but come guys, there’s a ton to learn still, give it some time and don’t get all negative out the gate.

It’s true that engineers have an abundance of options in this regard, but all classes have skills (and traits!) that can help. Failing that, we can all stand to learn to dodge and watch the field better (I know I can).

You also repeat the fallacy of discussing these issues as if everything were a 1 on 1, in which case you’d be correct. Turn that into a 3v3 or a 5v5 and it’s an entirely different story.

Yes absolutely. The entire post was aimed at people who get into 1v1 situations and then cry when they get demolished. Which, if it’s happening a lot, indicates that maybe you shouldn’t go roaming around solo.

The time to cc has already passed when they’re on top of you. Do it sooner.

2) Is there some kind of special food you can buy off the TP which is usable in PvP which allows you to dodge incoming CCs when your endurance is empty?

No. There are a few bullet points that address this issue, however.

If a thing seems broken, then use it yourself. Maybe you will find that it has other drawbacks you weren’t aware of. Maybe you will find (As I have before) that you will have gained the skills to fight against it better.

How dare you OP?! Don’t you know if you spout stuff like this, we may not get our classes buffed??

For serious though; thanks for another refreshingly helpful addition to this forum. I’m still holding on to hope that eventually your first point will sink in. The promise of this kind of discussion keeps me coming back.

While true, the match then turns into which group has the right tools, best synergy, and actually works to support each other. Which is how I feel group fights should be determined.

Odd numbered fights are the wild card and there really isn’t a way to balance that.

Ahh, makes sense. You play the class that …

When someone asks OP “what class do you play?” I always feels like whatever the answer is, the person asking will come up with an explanation like “you play an easy class”

I wonder what could have been the other answers :

Ahh, makes sense. You play the class that …

[insert answer according to class]

"
-Elementalist : omg, so much sustain, defensive skills, kiting… etc
-Mesmer : omg, you can stealth, burst , TP and have instant CC + moa… etc
-Thief : same as mesmer (except moa)… etc
-Engi : omg, so much defensive skills, invul … etc
-Warrior : omg, you can be immune to damage/condi/CC + rampage… etc
-Necro : omg, you have so much instant CC + a second life bar + plague/lich … etc
-Guard : so much defensive skills while being zerk + burn + blocks… etc
-Ranger : omg, you can pew pew, invul, stealth and kite… etc
"

Conclusion : After so much time reading the forum it seems that most players are The best player of [insert class 1] and that [insert class 2] isn’t concerned by [insert specific issue] because [insert class 2] is easy to play/OP.

N.B. : I’m not saying that there is no issue. I’m not saying that X or Y class is OP/UP. The point of this post is only about players’ reaction. Yes, the game still needs balance but I’m definitely not talking about that.

I have to agree with this post very much. +1

Although yes objectively some things are to strong and need to be addressed, and the length of time it takes that we all are familiar with is frustrating. To often are players complaining based on ineptitude, lack of game sense, and not being objective enough about builds as well as what they have access to. However I understand every last one of us will have biases based on what we play, I think we should observe what a build fully has before crying OP.

It’s like when players legitimately got mad at 100B warriors. The thought now is laughable but this was not an uncommon (but definitely facepalm-able) QQ at the time <- Players learned the set up options, and countered a build that was essentially one significant damage source… Then no one cared anymore.

@"OP what do you play" You can find anything about any class to gripe on.

“I control time and space; you can’t break free.~”
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”

Are you serious ? You wrote a wall of text to a 2 years old thread.

And no, ele is over the top and they confirmed that nerfs are coming. Mesmer will probably get hit as well #justPUthings.
