If we could prevent people like this from queuing:

Greetings, I fairly new to pvp but one thing that I have seen in 90% of my matches in Rangers go either Power ranger build or condition build with most of them being power which tend to kill the game. Next I run into D/D thieves which blow up anyone that inst a warrior or a thief. Then I get the H/Gs warrior just knock you up then knock you away and repeat. These are just the non magic based ones. The mezer 4v1s, the infinite health eles and the condition nerco. Why is it that none of this is even thought of as broken or over power and why Area net no doing anything about it. but instead buff them some evermore. I’m not trying to single him out. But when the matchmaking Gods decide it’s time for you to be on a losing streak, you usually end up with people like him.

People with:

- very little experience yet very big opinions
- misinformed views on the conquest mode
- absolutely no views on the conquest mode
- flashy pve gear and 34 minutes of pvp experience
- desire to earn dailies
- desire to farm rank points (worse than above. r80 for a year now and it’s still meaningless)

It’s anets fault for creating this matchmaking system. But it’s also people that shouldn’t be queuing where they know they’d be a burden.

I’m really just a scrub PVPer but I’ve been doing this since the days of 10v10 hotjoin zergs and paid tournament matches (because I have no life and live in my mom’s attic and should totally go out more and dont care about getting trolled;) rotations, mobility and point accumulation become 2nd nature.

And if people prioritized that over meta this meta that, they would contribute to the solo q pug team in a much more meaningful way.

Yes, rated solo queue would be a lot better if the only people that queued for it took the time to try to understand conquest and how the classes work before jumping in. They would spend a little time on the internet reading up on things and then spend siginificant time in unrated before jumping into rated. Unfortunately it will never happen. Most people think they know everything and are special snowflakes and for some crazy reason the majority of people will look at unrated and rated options even if they are completely new and select rated. I only consider myself average as well but when I started way back when I did not queue for tournaments for quite awhile when I started pvping. I spent time researching things and doing only hotjoin and custom arena. Since a lot of people won’t act rationally it’s up to a-net to come up with better systems.

None of that is the problem.

The problem is that there are a lot of really toxic mechanics at play and conquest is simply an unintuitive game mode where kills are worthless in their own right. Imagine if it only made sense to kill someone in LoL/Doto if they were hugging their tower. It would suck, but thats how conquest is.

Power Rangers really are annoying to play against and so are Mesmers.

Same goes for stealth, Guardian invulnerability chains, the fact that Thieves require an extra set of fingers to play right while a Ranger can do well by pressing 2 buttons, elite skills that lead to insane powerspikes and get-out-of-jail-free mechanics still present on every available map.

It’s not a question of something being OP, but a question of things not being fun to play against. Even though it’s probably not the case, the combat feels like a massive clusterkitten where everyone mindlessly runs around a point while pressing ALL the buttons at random.

But the guy in his post is basically right.

Conquest is flawed, and so are the builds.

Bad matchmaking doesn’t help either where players can have a full organized party vs a team of randoms.

Argue all you want but GW2 has by far the worst PvP system of any MMO to date. Everyone agrees.

What? You made a whole post about it but didn’t even offer a suggestion to prevent “people like that from queueing”. You do realize you’re basically showing the same mentality as the people you’re condemning? A bit hypocritical lol.

My 2 cents: queueing would be a lot better if you were matched with people of a similar rank. Just got matched with a totally new player who was either downed or dead every time I saw him on the map. Ranger too, fancy that. Matchmaking already takes long enough to find players though. Making it longer to find better games… sigh, I might actually support that.

Guardian invulnerability chains

right now this is the most overpowered beserker profession because of how stupid easy meditation guardian is.

Shield of Wrath shouldn’t be castable when stunned/knocked down (this is absurdly stupid,as it’s a weapon skill) and Renewed Focus should’ve never became a meditation.

simply put, guardian just gets way too much out of putting 6 into Valor. that one investment covers:

  • sustain
    reduced cast time on meditations means more stunbreaks, condi clears, heals, teleports, and invulns. valor also gives guardian an additional 8k (!) of instant-cast healing, effectively making all guardian heals completely uncounterable aside from ridiculous poison uptime. also, an additional aegis and +300 toughness doesn’t help.
  • utility
    again, the synergy with meditations makes them ridiculously strong and effectively doubles their usefulness.
  • damage
    gives high fury uptime through Focused Mind which works perfectly in conjecture with the +300 ferocity Valor gives.

this kind of benefit from one traitline is completely unparalleled by any other profession.

The problems are easy to identify because they are the same things that would corrupt ANY game…whether it’s a sport, board game, or video game.

1. You can’t have brand new players playing with experienced players. It’s miserable for both parties no matter what an “algorithm” says. It’s not something that’s fixable with data. It’s fixable with common sense.

2. You can’t have premade teams with voice communication matched with PuGs. It’s understandable that the game can’t detect whether a team has voice com…so that makes the solution even more obvious. You MUST have separate ques for teams versus solo players like in the past. Why change from something that is 100% logical and common sense to something that is again attempted to be fixed with an algorithm.

3. Create meaningful rewards that give people an incentive to play.

4. Create a meaningful leaderboard that reflects skill versus the biggest grinders.

It’s frankly shocking that things so obvious as the above 4 can’t be fixed by a game this old. However, they’ve actually made things worse and not better in these areas, so I can’t even give them the benefit of the doubt and say they haven’t had enough time or resources to fix these things.
