How to enjoy your PvP time

I might be wrong but in GW1 PvP theres was no class ‘’hard counter’’ like today like : theres 2 people fighting , an Assassin and a Necro , If the assassin kills the necro, its the necro’s fault because he didn’t timed his heals or he didn’t removed the Shroud of Distress (75% block Under 50%hp) or the Way of Perfection (heal when critical hit) both are Enchantment Spell which are the Gw2 boons that can be stripped.
Also , I feel like PvP doesn’t mean Player vs Player but point vs point (conquest) and the gw1 pvp was real pvp , you kill the other team and you win.
Builds back in the days were not as dramatic as today : as long as a healer (ritualist, monk) you can make sure your team (in pvp or pve) doesn’t die or as a DPS which can be whatever you want as long as you can kill the ennemy , its a good build, today it’s….complicate ?
You can not mix GW2 and competitive PvP together with a straight face. Trust me it just don’t work.
ANet like many many other MMORPG companies does none of the things. In order to promote a competitive PvP environment. They just promote what is going to get them more easier less risky sales, and profits.
Competitive PvP is only being done. Where companies are completely built around that one aspect. If you can’t see this by now. Then go ahead just keep banging your head against the brick wall. I wonder which will crack first tho?
But at least I admit it!

Oh dear… In GW1 it was way more complicated than it is in GW2, which I think was a good thing.
You had something like 1k different skills available. This meant that for every build there was a counter, and for that there was a counter again etc. It was less a thing of classes than of builds. Basically if something was actually OP, you could just make a build that completely negated that OP thing, so it was less of an issue.
Stripping Shroud of Distress wasn’t really important for a Necro, since block doesn’t effect spells there and Necro was a spellcaster. The only problem with shroud would have been health regen, but if the Assassin invested deeply enough into shadow arts to get a lot of healing out of that, his spike wouldn’t be sufficient to kill the Necro quickly.
The main thing is that in most of GW1 PvP you didn’t really have those 1v1 fights, and you didn’t have nodes to bunker on. You usually had teams of players fighting, with occasional split tactics. This means that if one build completely countered another one, there would usually be a teammate around to compensate.
GW1 also had less passive defenses and stronger scaling on damage, meaning that people who didn’t invest deeply into damage wouldn’t do a ton of damage, and the same was true for tankyness.
Not to forget energy management. This is a big one. You couldn’t just spam stuff on cooldown. Spiking a target meant multiple people on a team commiting to investing resources in order to take down a target. If you kittened up, you had actual downtime. Not to mention interrupts.
